If it isn't exact then there is too much play (in the hole) and the ground throw wont push the throw arm far enough for it be fully thrown. The little lug on the turnout has to fit "snuggly" into the hole of the Ground Throw. It seems as though there isn't much "wiggle room" with these things.
Yep - they fit like a glove! Okay - I see where your going with this. Use the hole in the PL11 as a template for the Caboose Ground Throws!!! Great idea mate, thanks
PS - I need a LOT more beauty sleeps than you do mate
Well - now I have gotten the basics of the Points Panel completed I started putting in the LED's and have successfully installed 2 of them for one switch. This is going to take some time as it is horribly boring work so don't expect it all to be completed at once
I now have to find a spot for it (the Panel) that is secure and close to the Terminal Block dedicated to it. But one thing at a time for the moment
Am getting a bit tired of wiring and so forth so am now looking at "The Extension" to the layout. The single track running around the outside of it all ... Am working out how to put in a sub road bed without having to do much carpentry work but don't think I am going to be able to. Anyway - sit back and look at things logically and see what pops up
This is exactly why a layout is never completed. There’s always something to add, refresh or tinker around with. Impatiently awaiting to start mine. Already told SWMBO that she can do whatever she wants, no questions asked, once I start mine. Guess I’ll have to start walking the dog she wants.
So the "BLUEISH" areas are where the extension is going to go and where I need to work out the "Sub Roadbed" and how to support it without getting into too much carpentry:
Truth be told - I'll probably end up putting in 4" X 1" risers and then go from their. I'm not buying a sheet of ply just for that small area though
And I will be doing something else I swore never to do - use USED track for this extension ... That being said, the track I will be using is in very good condition. All it will need is a clean
Maybe someone is doing construction somewhere close. See if you can get some scrap plywood. The less they load in a dumpster is less they have to pay at the dump. I’ve got some scraps hidden away at work for just that reason.
Thanks for the suggestion mate and I will have a look around. I live outside of a small town so people are happy (in most cases) to lend a hand with things like finding stuff
That being said, I took a closer look at what was already there and found that the length of 1/2 ply that runs along the back of the layout isn't screwed down. I think I will be able to use some of that, including the curved bit, in the new sub roadbed. That will essentially leave me around a 4' gap I need to bridge. OR ... maybe BRIDGE is the operative word hmm
As it happens - I just happen to have one and it is about a foot long I just have to work it into the space as it is a straight bridge, not curved. I stand corrected, I found my curved Trestle. I might be able to use both of them linked BUT that will make for a very long bridge. They would have to be inserted extremely securely and dead level - hmmm I may have to think on that. Either way, I think I will be able to use the straight bridge as that is the larger of the two and the most solidly constructed.
