Nice shot and almost right in the center there is a caboose visible.

Recently another railfan posted a film on YouTube with two BNSF diesels doing local runs in Wasington state. Both are still wearing Burlington Northern green, which is extremely rare now. On my western trip after dropping down from the Rocky mountains in Montana, i was heading diagonally southeast toward Helena. I decided to drop by Great Falls as i've never been there. Locating the rail yard i came face to face with this view:

two SD40-2 diesels still in "cascade green" working in the yard. After wheeling around what used to be Great Northern engine house, i came up from the south end to try getting a better shot:

Day of the event was Wednesday, August 7, 2024.

Today i went over to see what's going on at the "Outer Station" in Reading. Steam Rambles train came in and while the crew is lubricating the huge T1, a set of F units with a rebuild SD50 is creeping up to tie into the other side of excursion train, to take it back to Port Clinton for the night.

I was in Baltimore on Wednesday the 15th in the Port of Baltimore. While waiting for my trailer to get loaded, this new generation switcher came in to pick up a box car from the same warehouse i was docked in. Here it's actually waiting for the yard jockey to move some containers away from the tracks (container drivers are not very bright);

After the container trailers were moved, the crew is backing toward the warehouse;

Train chasing at work is always a good opportunity to catch something i normally don't have access to on my free time.

While you were in Great Falls, did you visit the C.M. Russell Western Art Museum? If you missed it, you really missed something that was a part of Western history.

No, i did not. It was my first time in town, so i didn't really know where anything is. I was mostly just trying to find some less known rail yards and stumbled onto those SD40-2s by chance. I did find the Milwaukee Road train station on the other side of the river though.

Too bad! If you ever get back up there, you should make a point of it. Charlie Russell was a cowboy artist in the 1880's through the 1920's. Only God and Charlie Russell can paint a Western sunset!
