Hey guys, well I got my pack of SMD's along with a bunch of other goodies (decoders, speakers) yesterday and so I thought Im gonna try my hand at this. I found that it wasnt hard at all, just a lil time consuming to make sure its right. These were the first 2 that I did (no BS!) and they came out pretty good. I also got the 1K ohm resistors and soldered n shrink tubed em. Im kinda impressed with how these turned out. Now to get em in the ditch lights and see how they light up the night

Looking good but I would recommend 32 - 36 gauge magnet wire as its much easier to pass through holes and run along the body then the wire your using. I did that here and you dont have to do anything to the frame to get the wires through and the walkway still sits down nicely.
I used 36 ga insulated wire as I figured that would be sufficient. Thats what I saw most guys on youtube tutorials were using so I figured I'd give it a try...
I pulled apart an old snap switch for the varnished wire they use for the core windings. Very thin wire and the varnish insulates it. Ya need to scrape the varnish off the ends to make the solder connections. One snap switch will provide yards of wire.
Is there a proper way to expose the wire with these? I have a few and would like to use them, but have lack of this knowledge
For the 36 ga. insulated wire I am usin all I do is pull about a 1/16" off with my teeth n then tin em. For the magnetic/varnish covered wire, an exacto blade will work fine to scrape off the ends to get nice clean wire...
I got some self fluxing wire and the varnish melts off when I tin it which makes it much easier to work with them.
OK...I may try that, but so far I have done 2 installs with the 36 ga. insulated wire n its workin out pretty good...in the midst of doin another tsunami install in a 8-40CW
