That's a great looking kit, who made it? Very nice, simple but well detailed, I like it...

Also, at the risk of being a bit of a nitpicker, you may want to do a bit of research and check the location of the stairs. I think they were usually in the back of the tower. It would all depend on the interior configuration of this particular tower, you want to operator to have the best possible view of the location he's controlling.

As a quick example, note the photo on this page, a tower pretty close the model.

You can't actually see the stairs, but you can see that they're not on the side of the tower facing the track. Then again, I'm sure there was probably some other installation that did the exact opposite, there always is, so if that's the way you like it, go with it...

Yes, it's very nice looking isn't it?

Also, while he said it's his first wood structure, judging by those little "shake the box" (NOT!) structures in the background, he's built a few other structures before. Those look pretty impressive too, even hidden in shadow. As somebody who grew up in Steel country, they look familiar.

Hey Larry, I've seen that structure somewhere before. Looks great now that its planted on the layout. Can't wait to see the next one. Ron

Is that the American Model Builder's kit? If it is I have the same one. Although I haven't started mine yet.

It does look like a nice structure. Good job on yours.

Fantastic work!

Other than the color, it looks exactly like some of the B&O towers I used to hang around in when I was 16, chasing trains in the Baltimore area. Sure brings back memories!

Ditto Reminds me of when I was a kid and my father worked for Vanadium Steel . We use to pick him up from work and it is dead on dude !!!!

You are so right ! I've cut a mounting block that fits snugly in the bottom of the tower. I can just lift it up and turn it around......However ..I did want to show off the stairway for everyone....... But...I'm beginning to like it like that ....and this tower acts as a yard office and protects the juction with the Red Jacket division....so... I think I can get away with it facing front.

That is , Calumet Pipe & Foundry, in the background. There are pictures of it if you look back to some older threads. Look for a thread, Calumet Pipe & Foundry, part 2

That tower does look awfully familiar though. What kit is it? I swear I've built one like it in the distant past. Very nice looking work indeed. I tend to agree with ModelBob about the stairs. Every tower I've ever been in always had the stairs on the opposite side of traffic. This was so the the operators could easily access the tower from a parking area and not have to get any closer to working trains than they had to. There was one tower (can't remember where it was at) that protected a diamond and had two sets of stairs, the front one leading to a platform where the operator handed up train orders. Those stairs do look really good so maybe build a small platform as the reason the stairs are at the front.

[Edit] Never mind about who made the kit. I crossposted with your response. The one I built had to be back in the 70's. I wonder how long this kit design has been around?
