Some ho modelers being too rigid

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Mullets were never cool😂😂😂😂
Angus MacGyver would beg to differ.

Awe man! I was just about to start growing one. I missed it when it came out back then.

both flavors of HO and OO for me. 1/80, 1/87, and 1/76. Right alongside my 1/160 and 1/150 n-scale. If the couplers work, anything goes.
Can you imagine what they'll do if they saw a OO Flying Scotsman and a HO SD 70 together pulling a mixed freight car rake? 🤣

One layout I went to, one had to stop the loco at each turnout so the switchman could get on and off the loco/caboose. One had to allow enough time for the brakeman to walk the length of the train checking the valve cocks, and then wait the proper amount of time for the air to pump up in the brake system. Had to wait for brakeman time to manually set the brakes on set out cars. And of course scale speeds. The layout had scale length sidings and spurs so it took about 2 hours to stop and switch one industry and continue.
I only stop long enough to take another sip of beer!

Oh my heavens, not like it was a club or exhibition or anything..... They would have been appalled with my string of 30-40 reefers in orange crate label fantasy paint.

Well, you can't really go there either. There are others that do the "anything I want" theme, that others would call "too loosey goosey". Whomever owns the rails gets to set the rules and if one wants to run there, it is what needs to be accepted.

Personally, I can't quite stand either extreme. One layout I went to, one had to stop the loco at each turnout so the switchman could get on and off the loco/caboose. One had to allow enough time for the brakeman to walk the length of the train checking the valve cocks, and then wait the proper amount of time for the air to pump up in the brake system. The layout had scale length sidings and spurs so it took about 2 hours to stop and switch one industry and continue.

On the other extreme, a layout where trains were things like SD70es pulling a train with both 1890s coaches, batman 50' plug door box cars, Green Giant reefers, beer can tank cars (the kind with the real beer can in it), and of course a wide vision caboose (of a different road name) on the rear.

The gag factor was too great on both these. I didn't say anything just declined future invitations.

I have this book for sale. Read it and you too can operate like a prototype operator.😁 I do prototype operation now, but I'm not that anal.;)

Some people don't know how to have fun. They probably wouldn't like this and many of its roundhouse kin due to the fact that the Colorado Midland, the Midland Terminal, and the Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek District Railway never merged with one another, nor did any of them have Russian Decapods.

They really wouldn't like this for obvious reasons.

And, they'd probably have a cow when these two make their periodic appearances.

There are some real nut cases out there, and it sounds like you met a couple that day. It takes real balls to chastise you for opening this thread, and ask you take it down, because it probably offended him.
Best I can offer is "Pay them no mind".
Not one of my structures is exactly what was there, and much of the equipment I run never ran together. Your critics would really dislike my RR.

The more I think of it, the more I think they'd have a cow over my layout too, and not just the engines and cars. I also have many structures that weren't there as well some things that definitely wouldn't belong that I find funny or interesting.
