San Francisco Cablecar or Streetcar by Occre

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

It's all done!!! Had fun building it and there was some challenges but over all a great model for anyone to build. I will power it but at the present it is not powered. I plan on building some shelving around either the room I use as a modeling area in the house or in my hobby shop out in the woodworking shop. Haven't decided yet (actually haven't gotten the ok from the boss lady).

Enjoy the pictures of the finished San Francisco cable car and like I said before a great model to build but I would say to take your time on basically all of it and fill any and all of the joints and tab and slot areas before final paint and decals because even thou some areas are covered in later steps it is much easier to do the decals and the next steps with a smooth surface to work with.

The roof I glued up and then before any sanding, I filled all the cracks and edges with wood filler and then sanded it all smooth with (believe or not) my vibrator sander with 150 grit and I think it came out great.

Again thank you all for following and not sure what my next project will be (have our basement to finish - studs wall, plumbing and electrical are done, drywall, tape, sand, paint, you get the picture is next). I do have a couple plastic car kits to do and the never ending model railroad to add details to so who knows what the future will bring.

Until then, thanks again for following along, it has been a great journey!!
By the way, this is my second Occre kit and I really enjoy these kits. They make a great product in my mind.

What a beauty! Awesome job!

For power, what will you be using? Lights?
No lights just a powered trucks so I can run it on G scale track. I should of built it with lights in it and a DCC decoder with some sort of sound decoder. That would of been cool. It's ok, just need to locate a powered truck and then build some track for it. For now it will sit in my display case.

Absolutely wonderful! Beautiful model of a California Line car. May I please copy the photo of the finished model to send to a former colleague?

Worked for Muni in maintenance, and the cable Cars were built at the yard I was assigned. It would take about 1 year start to finish to build a car. They are rolling National Historic Landmarks and when retired cannot be destroyed but placed in a warehouse or displayed at a plaza.

Skyliner, I was on the floor of the powerhouse a couple of times. The workers there would just casually walk under the moving cables. Found it unnerving and would go back upstairs and cross the cable reels from the viewing gallery. They said if a car gripped or let go of the cable to fast a shock wave would whip down the cable. Told me they could hear it coming before it arrived and would get out from under the cables. Dunno, they could have been screwing with me.

I know some of you have been following along with the cablecar build and I put together a short slideshow that has all the pictures that I did for this build in one place. It's about 3 minutes long.

Enjoy
