Well, howdy there internet laborers and those about to rock!

It's Troy again.

My father was president of his local OCAW for several years. So a shout-out to all the labor unions that helped get the 40-hour work week and benefits. Now if we could have just done it without the mafia involvement.

Been researching the spondylolysis. Fortunately, this is the minor form. According to the diagnosis it's a single crack in the scaffolding behind the vertebrae. There's also a double crack (both sides), double crack with vertabrae shift forward, and one other. They all fall under "Spondy" but have one or two letters different.

Because my brain has to go to worst-case thinking and start strategerizing, I'm now considering our next home. I know, I sound like TOM predicting an impending move. Wife loves townhomes, but I'm leaning toward single level with a basement. We'll see how that goes. And the Canuck citizenship has to be resolved before we decide where the next home will be.

The good news is that the Spondy isn't a long-term handicap. It just means making some behavior shifts, dropping some weight, and increasing core strength.

My walking is curtailed right now. That means I'm looking at a gym or Y membership. I've never been fond of gyms. Exercise should be done in private.

I'm thinking a recumbent exercise bike for daily cardio. The problem is: with the model railroad that has come to a screeching halt, I have no room to put a bike. So I have to go somewhere public to exercise. Blech.

You misworded it. 2FA is f-ing stupid. Because everybody needs instant gratification and have to have all of their devices be able to log in, all these ports have been opened to allow more hackers. So, people like me, who only use a PC to access sites and can wait until I get home or use my PC, have to deal with 2FA, which sends a code to my phone, which I have to go find. So, two devices being used, requiring another device access.

I was thinking this rant would make me feel better, but it doesn't.

somewhere public to exercise

Yeah, I hate dealing with others on the machines. The gym on base used to give out towels that folks could lay on the benches instead of leaving a sweaty mess. They stopped doing that, but went to clean wipes, which is better than nothing. I have access to a free gym, but have to drive to it and haven't done so yet.

I promise to start walking again when the temperatures outside are more bearable and go to the park where they have a jungle gym for me to do pull ups, push ups, and start doing lunges. Abs can be done at home, in the comfort of my AC.

My television suddenly decided yesterday I needed to log in to my tv manufacturer's account in order to continue using it. The tv is now secured by 2FA, so I was forced to provide my phone number to the tv manufacturer to get a code texted to me so I could log in to my television to watch tv.
I then got six emails telling me all about how someone had logged in, and I need to change my password and enable MFA, including a passkey or security key to keep my television safe from an attack I wouldn't have to worry about if I hadn't been forced to provide another way to hack the account I shouldn't need, so I can watch television.

Pretty busy morning thus far. Wife made monkey bread for breakfast which turned out excellent!

Lawn is mowed, made a trip to the ATM for cash for tonight. I had to fuel up the van since my wife and daughter took it last night
for round #2 of homecoming dress shopping. Good news is they found a dress but had to order a size down so that will be a trip
to Rockford next week to pick it up.

Heading for Chicago in about an hour with the wife daughter and 2 of her friends. The vote (I didn't get a say as usual) is to stop at
Raising Caine's for an early supper. Never been there before but supposedly they have good chicken strips.

57° under sunny skies this morning, heading to a high of only 78°.

Little excitement this morning, we woke up and walked through the house to let out the dogs. At which point the cat met her in the kitchen and presented a freshly killed Mickey Mouse. He chirped in verbal and made all kinds of little noises that Maine coons make as he presented his kill. Good kitty!

In other news ladder manufacturers have released information over what’s been happening in their industry over the last hundred years. It seems the distance from the ladder rubgs to each other has increased slightly over the last century. This is known as climb it change.

Grandkids are coming by later better get ready.

I had data error messages so never came back to the forum yesterday. Wow, missed a lot! Welcome back Terry, I think we were getting a posse together to come to Florida to find out if you were ok. Glad to see it was for decompression purposes only. I must say about your work situation. That has to be one of the most unfriendly employers I have ever read about. They must churn through employees like I buy and sell freight cars. Crazy! I am glad though you have the patience to get through to retirement!

Happy Labor Day. I’m a business conservative. I have been management in both union and non union shops. I truly believe a union shop is a much better, safer and happier work place than the non union shops.

When I was doing surgery recovery one of the security guards literally got between me and a jumbo who literally tried to pull me off one. I had already cleared it with the grocery store I was allowed to use one. The store was were prepared I was not. Hey, maybe a story line for you! You could have a protection detail of faes, fairies and sprites as your lead character rolls through the grocery aisles! !

On Saturday I prepared 12 diesels for weathering by cleaning them 1st and putting them in my dust proof cabinet overnight. After lunch out yesterday I only planned to fade them. 5 Missabe Sd38-2s and 7 EJE Sd38-2s. The Missabe took sometime, sprayed one, moved on to the next when finished with the 5th I should have been able to go back to the 1st but I didn’t think it was ready. So switched to another airbrush, changed the fade coloring and moved to the 7 EJE units. That orange was interesting but got the 1st pass done. Started back to the next round of Missabe when the LIGHTBULB event happened! I needed to change numbers on 3 of the Missabe and 2 of the EJE. Got out the 99% IPA and off came the numbers. Hair dryer out to dry the area and added the new numbers. From 1:30 to all of a sudden it was 7:40 when Terry popped into the shop and asked if I was ok? Said she came in twice earlier but I was concentrating so she didn’t bother me. Ate 1/2 a sandwich and went back to the bench at 9 till 11 only because my 90 minute alarm went off to stop. It took almost 30 minutes to clean and tidy up. The 5 Missable are number changed and faded. Weathering next! The EJ&E have the numbers changed. Depending on today’s events I may work on the fade for the EJE units. While it was too long at the bench yesterday it was fun overall to get into a flow for weathering I really have not felt for over a year.

I try to go early enough there's no competition for the "Jumbos" (is that what they're called?)

I do have a snazzy cane and walk in with that if needed.

So far the door greeters at my local Meijer don't worry about me, and one of the managers rang me out at the register. I've been using the manned checkouts due to trying to get the jumbo through the maze/chute for entry area for the self-checkouts.

I am now paying attention to when I have to bend over for stuff. Like picking up the cat's water fountains. I switched to stainless steel ones that were supposed to go two weeks between cleaning. Yah, not so much. I change the water in them every two days. Think I'll go back to the old ones with the fresh tank that "glugged" new water into the mix every so often. I only had to clean those once per week.

I did raise one of the dehumidifiers in the basement. It's now on a plastic tote, so I don't have to kneel, remove the water tank, stand dump, then reverse the process.

I'm currently staring at the stalled RR layout. Wondering if I should give into the inevitable now, and collapse it back to an L shaped shelf layout? Or just let it stall out for a few months until I get back into a less tubby and more mobile shape?

Good Morning All. Happy Labor Day, or just another Monday for some. Clear and 74° here, a little cooler than the forecast but I won't complain. It hit 107° again yesterday, for the third day in a row! Today is only supposed to be 101°, a nice respite from the heat if that's as high as it gets.

Ho-hum day yesterday. Father John is on vacation and visiting priest Father Tom had a very short homily for us, so church let out earlier than usual. Dishwasher and two loads of laundry after that. Outdoor activity was limited to surveying the havoc that the lumberjacks left me. Despite my request to keep it separate, they stacked dry wood with green wood over by the pond. They're supposed to be back today to finish some cleanup activities, so I'll decide whether to have them fix that or if I'll just do it as I will have to haul it to he wood pile anyway. Two distinct trees which are easy to tell apart.

Wife is leaving in a bit to spend the day (& night) at our daughter's house for a Fantasy Football draft gathering. I'll hang around here for the lumberjacks and maybe do a surprise project for her while she's gone. Maybe not!

The usual short Sunday session out in the train shed yesterday, but I accomplished a lot. Ballasted 2 of the 3 switches in the current project zone and did some more ground cover.

Forum is not playing nice with picture posting this morning, so I'll leave it at that. I have the mortar wash ready for the 2D wall, and all of the windows painted and ready for installation over on the workbench, for when I get bored with landscaping.
This area is the first place that I have used LED lighting overhead. It looks fine when I look at it in the train shed, but it looks terrible in pictures. The brown ground looks very orangey in the pictures.

At 2100, I used my flashlight to check on my rain gauge, it was almost full. I guess I need a bigger one. I emptied it out at 1400 and it was showing 24 mm.

What am I missing here? 24mm is not quite an inch, the gauge that you have posted seems a lot bigger than that.

How was VB at Wrigley?

It was a great experience. First match went off with out a hitch despite a late start. They played best of 5 so first game lasted 4 sets. Second game was supposed to start at 8pm but with the late start and warmups it was closer to 9pm. They finally started play and immediately halted due to condensation on the court and players slipping. They tried to dry it off for about a half hour and started again but delayed again. Crews came out and brought leaf blowers and fans out but finally called the game around 10:30 saying for player safety they were scrapping the second game.

A very long day though!

We've entered a cooling trend this week which is my signal to do a few chores around the place before it gets too cool. I final hedge trim, change the oil in the sports car, vacuum out the minivan and swap to winter floor mats, yada yada yada...but not today. Today I'm putting windows and the interior in that Shasta Daylight RPO. Enjoy your day!

It's tough to think of her being 75. Where have the decades gone? 3/4 of a century old.

Awakened this morning to a very pleasant 63°F/61°F temperature and dewpoint this morning. I was surprised conditions improved as they did. But worry not! It will again be miserable tomorrow and Wednesday before the rain arrives on Thursday morning. So says their Magic 8-ball.

I'm going to throw some hamburgers and brats on the grill later today, and that's all that's on my plate for today. With the nicer weather I'm going to spend a lot of it outside with Willow today.

Good morning all!

Another pretty average day weather-wise. Currently its a sunny 70F. Highs will be around 80F. I see they have modified the long range forecast
some. Might not get the intense heat and humidity returning this week like was forecasted. Might stay around average now which will be
welcome after last weeks misery.

Nothing planned for today. Pretty much everything was done yesterday.

Raising Caine's yesterday for dinner was pretty good. Don't know if its one to put on the must stop, but would not hesitate to go back there again.
The chicken strips were really good, but I thought their fries were just average. The Texas toast was really good. Price was decent as well.

Getting a very slow start this morning. Didn't get home from Chicago till after 1am. A nap will defiantly be in order later.
