St. Louis hit 101°F today. Down here, 99°F. Felt like a Finnish sauna. And yes, I've been in a Finnish sauna. It just happened to be in the Keewenaw in UP Michigan. Is this ever going to end?

My budget billing power bill just went down $8 starting with this month's payment, but September is probably going to kill that.

Got some guitar playing in today, but my VOX is having a problem with flakey output. Tubes are new and have been running well for over a year now so I don't think it's a tube. It sounds like one of the pots in the tone stack or the drive channel volume pot is going bad. I didn't want to troubleshoot today so I just switched amps.

I forgot how good the Blackstar HT Stage 60 Mk II sounds, so I ripped up the neighborhood with that one for three hours today. Hope they enjoyed the concert. The new Epiphone Custom plays like a dream.

Have a great evening!

Well, finally able to get back into the site. I emptied the rain gauge at 0930. It is currently 1300 and the gauge has 13 mm of water in it. Since it is guesstimated to have heavy rain starting at 1700-ish, I'll empty it out and see how it does overnight. I have turned my automatic watering thing off.

Good Sunday morning. That was pretty good rest overnight. I don't remember waking but once.

73°F/72°F this morning. Heading for the low 90°Fs. This is the only break we get this week. Going to be as high as 98°F on Wednesday, and it finally cools some, but still above normal temps. I don't see any permanent relief until the 14th at the earliest. After the 14th, we likely won't see 90°F or above for the rest of the year.

I might get outside today for more than ten minutes with Willow and try to get her some exercise.

Have a safe Sunday.

Servus!

Good Morning All. Around here it's clear and 76°. Original forecast for yesterday called for 98°; it hit 107° instead! That should continue for another week., although not quite as warm hot. Rain??? What's that?

The lumberjacks were back out yesterday, coming after lunch! Tough day for them as they broke a total of three chains, and two others need re-sharpening. Had to stop and go to HD for some replacements. They didn't finish the two day job and will have to come back on Monday; their choice, not mine. Since yesterday was a lot warmer than expected, my initial plans for some outside work fell by the wayside and I attacked the honey-do list instead.

Church and dishwasher on tap this morning, followed by at least two loads of laundry including the bed linens. Tonight is going to be leftovers instead of grilling, since we're out of room in the fridge.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I finally ran a few trains. It's been a strange week schedule-wise out there this past week. I also did some more ballasting and a bit of ground cover.

Alan -
Too true! I haven't owned a pickup in years, but I always got calls from people who knew I had one and were moving or whatever. It's like wearing a bullseye on your shirt!
I never owned one, but the guys that did never had to buy their own beer on weekends!
John -
My question is, "extraordinarily painful" for who ?
Taxpayers. At 11-1 for acquittal, a retrial isn't going to end any differently.
I haven't seen any of the crazy Indonesia posts today,
That user was mysteriously removed.

She’s a Cowboy’s fan she should be used to this!!!
While still a fan, she quit rooting for them years ago. Like most Cowboy fans, she loves the team and hates the owner.

The late country outlaw musician, David Allan Coe, was born today in 1939. Pink Floyd bassist/vocalist/composer Roger Waters is 83 today.
Everyone have a great Sunday.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with trucks or beer.

It's Troy again.

Wife wasn't feeling well yesterday. We're hoping it was just the Methotrexate for her RA that had her down. General tummy upset and blah. She has to take five of the low dose pills all at once, and she did it with very greasy pizza.

Hopefully she perks up today. She wanted to go to Cheddars Scratch Kitchen yesterday for a chicken pot pie. So that's on the plans for today if she feels OK.

As for me, well, sciatica sucks. I have no idea why this bout has gotten worse instead of better? I've been through PT with it before, so I still have the exercises for that. And they didn't help. But the pain got worse, then worse... the gabapentin is doing its job. As long as I don't stress the nerve, I'm mostly pain free. But standing long enough to shower - even with the affected foot resting on the side of the tup - had the leg burning.

So my new mode of grocery shopping:

PT Evaluation happens Wednesday. We'll see what happens there.

I'm definitely cancelling my trip to Tampa in two weeks. I'd have to rent a mobility scooter while I was there, and there is no real way to get comfortable on the two legs of the flight I'd need to make. Not to mention me suddenly falling to the floor and propping my feet up on a chair because of a pain flare. Best stay home.

I need to get through the PT to get the MRI so we can get a treatment plan.

So far, stairs are not a bother at home, because I am going from one sitting/lie-down zone to the next. But my "What if...?" brain is kicking in and making me wonder how soon before we need to think about a single level home instead of a townhome?

Good morning all!

Not so warm today. A pretty average early Sept day in store finally. Currently 68F. High is supposed to top out at 81F.

Not much planned for today except mowing.

Later this afternoon we are heading into Chicago. There are 2 college volleyball games at Wrigley field. The event is part of the 2026 Big Ten/SEC Volleyball Challenge Week. 6:00 p.m. Penn State vs. Kentucky. 8:00 p.m. Nebraska vs. Missouri Should be fun, but going to be a late night.

Have a safe day everyone!

Seems like we've gotten a bit of relief down this way too. The wind is out of the north-northeast but you'd never know it by feel. Temps are currently 77°F. This time yesterday it was almost 90°F.

It's not going to last past tomorrow though and then right back up to the upper 90°F. I'll be glad when Autumn finally and permanently arrives in another eight days.

Not a lot of activity in the Coffee Shop this morning!
Troy - That's a screwed up health care insurance plan that you unfortunately have, when no one can send you for an MRI right now. You could very well have spinal stenosis alongside of the sciatica. They would mask one another. Add to that the piriformis and it's no wonder that you are in constant agony. I found that gabapentin was only mildly successful, but I was taking a very low prescribed dosage according to the pharmacist, 200mg twice a day. She said that she had some customers taking 2400mg a day; 6x what I was prescribed! Don't remember if you have posted your dosage.
I hope that it gets resolved soon. You're too young to be using the scooter shopping cart!

This seems to be medical condition Sunday, so here' mine.

Nicki's ortho surgery on Friday went smooth, but it took 5 hours in post op to get her pain under control. I saw her about an hour after the procedure was done and they were pumping fentanyl and dilaudid into her. I left after an hour. She was out of it and there was nothing I could do, but be in the way. I had been up for almost 16 hours and wanted to get home before it was too late.

I noticed in the morning that the hospital app showed she was finally out of post op at 12:15am. I saw her late morning Saturday and they said that they may want her stay one more. She hadn't slept much or ate more than a dinner roll in 36 hours.

10 minutes after I arrived I noticed she started having tremors in her legs. This happened before so I knew that her blood sodium was dropping. I notified the nursing staff and the most current blood draw showed her sodium at 123. Normal was 135. They gave her some salt pills, limited her water, and start a magnesium iv. She went to sleep so I left knowing that the attending doc was aware and was consulting with the nephrologist.

I knew what was happening because I almost lost her a few years ago with the same thing. That time her sodium had dropped to 108 after we made it to the ER. They sent her straight to ICU and she was strapped in a seizure bed for a week while they stabilized her.

The actually diagnosis is SAIDH if you want to look it up. Basically your anti-diuretic hormone kicks in and prevents water loss, so your thinning your blood sodium down. Slowing increase sodium and limit water to 2ltr every 24 hours.

I got a call just before I went to sleep from the nephrologist. Sodium down to 118 and she was having issues communicating. Straight to the neuro ICU. The ICU doc called about an hour later with a condition update.

Nicki sent me a text this am that she was doing better. She was communicating coherently so that is a big improvement. She doesn't want me to come down, but I told her I'll be there around noon.

Shit happens.
