Good morning all!
Happy Labor Day weekend!
A bit cooler today but not by much. Looks like it will finally move out of here tomorrow and get back to normal temps around here. Currently
its 78F. looking at around 88F. Hopefully fall weather arrives soon.
Today is usual Saturday stuff around the house. Have to do the weekly grocery trip and some laundry. I am going to wait till tomorrow to mow
since it will be in the 70s. Its not really growing that much but I will run over it so I don't have to worry about it during the week.
Not much else going on at the moment.

Morning All! Happy Labor Day weekend. A comfortable 72 in the Brew City this AM, going to 80. A cooling trend is forecasted over the next few days. I had to mow again yesterday. 3 days. A record. My grass just leaps up when it rains even a little. It wasn't terrible, but with intermittent rain in the forecast for the next week I didn't want to risk having to wait another 3-4 days for dry grass and it being up to my knees! The grill will get a workout this weekend. Doing some baby back ribs today, burgers, dogs, and sausage tomorrow, and some Ribeyes Monday. At the rate time is passing I'll be putting the Weber away before I know it, so I'm going for the gusto now! Enjoy your day!
I have heard many say this. It's because you no longer have to center your schedule around your work. Things just seem to pop up, there's less need to organize your time, and friends and relatives may think you're on 24/7 call for help. That's my theory anyway.

Good Morning All. Happy Labor Day weekend. Clear and 76°. Forecast has changed again and we're now expecting 100°+ beginning today instead of tomorrow. Still no rain in sight.
The landscaping guy and his crew came by yesterday, their task was to remove two dead trees, two very large dying Honeylocust trees and cut up some remaining trunks and stumps left over from the 2024 tornado. Other than the large trees, I could have done all of the rest myself, but I wanted to sweeten the deal for him with some easy stuff. Mostly done before the heat halted work, except for cutting the largest tree up into firewood-sized pieces and removing that stump. They are due back this morning. My chainsaw is just 16" and those two trees were over 28" in diameter. I will still have to split the trunk pieces myself, but I have the time. The large trees will be for heating in December 2027, the already dead and dry stuff will be for this winter.
Later in the evening, my wife decided that we were going to Red Lobster for all you can eat shrimp. That turned into a disaster. We have had less than desirable experiences at this location in Denton over the years, but gave them another chance last spring which was OK. So this was going to be a make-it or break-it trip. Didn't start off well. Front door was askew and required two hands to open it! Minor inconvenience, but an indication of what was to come. Got inside and asked for a table and were led to a booth...next to a portable industrial A/C unit sitting in a puddle of water. A/C was out the hostess said. OK, we took the booth just to be close to the A/C. Waiter came by and we asked about working in the heat, and he commented that he was used to it since the A/C had been out since May! Since May!!! Then came drink ordering. No draft beer since they couldn't keep the kegs cool. He didn't know why but I surmise that there was only 1-240v outlet in the whole place and it was powering the A/C instead of the keg cooler. We left and went across the freeway to Longhorn Steakhouse, which would have been my first choice anyway. Upon returning home, I sent a pointed but polite message to their comment line canceling my "Dine Rewards" membership. I predicted about 18 months ago, that this location would be on the next round of closures since it never seems to be busy anyway. That may be why they're not having the A/C repaired; why flush more money away?
Today's plan is to stay out of way of the tree guys and so some regular pool maintenance. Grilling is probably in store for this evening.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I started ballasting. Did a couple of easy spots first, leaving the switches for today. I had planned to run some trains, but that didn't happen
Chet - I don't remember reading anywhere if the track/engine on the new display is powered?

Troy - Both my PCP and spine doctor ruled out chiropractic care. I believe that both of them think that that branch of medicine is somewhat "voodoo".

The late Freddie Mercury of Queen was born on this day in 1946; Loudon Wainwright III, singer-songwriter (Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road)) was also born in 1946. Late drummer Buddy Miles, Electric Flag, Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsy's; was born in 1947. Humble pie guitarist Clem Clempson was born in 1949; he replaced Peter Frampton in the band. And not as notable as his Dad, Dweezil Zappa was born on this day in 1969.
Everybody have a great Saturday.

Happens sometimes. Patrick over in Wichita KS, regularly sees temperatures equal to or greater than ours.

Too true! I haven't owned a pickup in years, but I always got calls from people who knew I had one and were moving or whatever. It's like wearing a bullseye on your shirt!

Good morning. Already 88°F heading for 100°F again today. Dewpoint is 75°F miserable degrees. Another day locked up in the house waiting out this horrid weather.

Many of you know the Mentour Pilot and Mentour Now channels on YouTube, dealing with all manner of aviation disasters and aviation news.
A few months ago they started a new channel. Mentour’s Black Box. It deals with non aviation related disasters and tragedies in a similar way to the Mentour Pilot treatment of aviation disasters.
I found an episode today on Mentour’s Black Box that is railroad related. About a tragedy in India in 2023. Very interesting.

I saw this and just thought, how much pain did the children endure.....maybe "extraordinarily" painful ?
I wish I could volunteer as a juror in this case.
Back to work on the layout in about an hour.
A couple of loads of laundry to do and get garbage ready for take-out.
I haven't seen any of the crazy Indonesia posts today, I did see about 6 or 7 yesterday.

So far, this has not been the best of Saturdays.
Attendance at the club was sparse today with most activity being wiring and structure assembly. No pictures today.
About !! AM, my wife called and said the home A/C was not working. Call the HVAC guy!
Had to dive 50 miles and take my brother to the grocery as his truck is still in the shop. When we got back to his home, the temp was 102F.
On the way home, I pulled out on the highway in front of a silver SUV that blended with the pavement. I deserved everything that driver said about me.
Got home and the A/C was working, a capacitor burned out.
And my college football team is behind.
Where did I leave that whiskey bottle?

I got 1 mm of rain yesterday and since we were scheduled for a lot last night and in the morning, I emptied it to see how much. It started raining at 0400 this morning and 4 hours later, we are at 10 mm. No heavy rain, but a bit breezy.
Future guesses say heavy rain later this morning into tomorrow, so I may reset it again at 0900 and see how much I can get by 0900 tomorrow. If it is as heavy as they are making it out to be, I wonder if it will overflow. We'll see.
