LOVE them Alcos
Second the motion!

Willie: Lutherans (LCMS), don't kneel, they stand. When I went to my grandson's First Communion at a Catholic Church, I knelt. The artificial knee felt funny, but there were no ill effects otherwise. I read somewhere it depends on the how the surgeon made the incision? Don't know if there is any truth to that. Normally, I don't kneel on that knee, without a foam pad.

Another walk in the park. 0.91miles in 20" so a major improvement over yesterdays time...Also past a group of three, two of which were old guys walking with canes, (like me), but moving at a much slower pace. I should challenge them to a race, but didn't because they might win :rolleyes:.

Still getting a few tomatoes from my "surprise" plants. The nursery started plants are all done. Id we are still here next spring, I will seek a different source for plant stock, and be more careful planting.

Weather wise, last I looked it was 69° and sunny. another nice day. Low was in the 40s. Looking ahead, looks like it might be our turn for Tropical weather... Disturbance # 16 has its own cone of uncertainty, and it's aiming to go up the Chesapeake ans Susquehanna, then make a Right North on I-95 and over the Delaware Memorial Bridge and through Jersey then over NYC and LI and into New England. Of course by the time it gets to us it will (hopefully) be a Post Tropical Depression with lots of rain and gale force winds. Something about this storm is reminiscent of TS Agnes which followed the same path, but kept going up the Susquehanna. Stay Tuned.

Headed for the train room after I finish this.

Good morning folks!

Fall is coming and already here for some of ya!

I was reading a little article I wanted to share. It's one of those things better late than never. Some of you may know and remember that I used to live in Florida over 17 plus years. I left for various reasons but I do like Florida for the most part just not the congestion or the summer heat. Anyhow, the years I lived there, I can not tell you how many times the state had sought to bring High Speed rails to the state to run the I-75 corridor and I-4 Corridor. I remember as far back as 1985. So many votes and so many naysayers. Well, it has finally happened but done by private entity which I might add is awesome! So I share this article with you and I truly hope the company continues to succeed and I support this and so many ways.

Here you are:

Lot of nay sayers, either fearful old people, or those with vested interests in other forms of transportation. Even this private venture had and continues to have to deal with NIMBYs and others who like things their way.

Afternoon All,

After the daily chores this morning we trekked to Wally World and another grocery store. Fun times. It rained last night, and we got about an inch. Tonight is supposed to be a repeat. Looking out the window the cumulus clouds are starting to get a "dirty" look. MOH and daughter this Saturday are going to a county sponsored tree give away. Who knows how much yard work I'll have after that.

Thank you for all the photo likes yesterday.

Patrick- I hope your knee feels better soon.

TomO- Congrats on the certificate and good luck on the others.

David- Your granddaughters are at a great age. Wait until they're teenagers and all that entails. Ask me how I know that?😲

Willie- Nice scenes.

Karl- Sometimes you just have to eat it all! I honestly thought you were talking about an MRR purchase. :)

Sherrel- Nice photo.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good evening all. Although it has been a cloudy day the rain that was forecast has stayed away.
The surveyors came today to survey where the elavator is to be. All went well. Now waiting for the hole to be cut. They say that will be done next week.

Since I was knee high to a grasshopper I have been around road haulage transport. Even today, but not hands on. On my layout I have more models of road haulage vehicles than I have of cars.

I have just watched (again) a favourite film of mine, "They Take The High Road". Yes it is road haulage, but it does have a train or two. It is only
24 minutes 21 seconds long.

Computer question - On my older Win8 system, when I had a momentary power failure (generally due to storms), I was given the option of starting Windows normally instead of going through the entire chkdsk operation. I believe that there is a way to do this with Win10 instead of going through the 10 minute chkdsk process. Anyone know what that procedure is? I believe that it involves holding down a couple of keys when you press the power button. HELP!

It's usually F1 or similar, it varies by computer manufacturer. You should see a message pop up on the screen when the computer first starts, though it will only delay the check until the next time the computer boots, then it will want to run check disk again until you allow it to complete.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I have an HP desktop if that makes any difference.

No certificates for me Curt, I am ex-NMRA

Good damp rainy So. central WIsconsin morning. I yelled out to Flo or Francine and along with a slow showing this morning I cannot locate them either. But I loaded their BIG coffee urn and I left them a message that coffee and the sodas are on me this morning. So crabba cup or a bottle of soda and I will settle up with the ladies later! I did hear loud snoring from Mel’s get away but I am not going in there!

It’s drizzling here and it’s 64f degrees heading to a hopeful 73.

I am almost finished with an Atlas Centerbeam/partition car for EBay, hopefully for listing tomorrow. I am also working on a Scaletrains bulkhead flat. I have to replenish the PayPal coffers!

I started after dinner last night filling in the staging area’s turn back loop with foam. The deck above the turn back is only 18” wide so much of the loop is exposed. So what’s a good easily built Northern WIsconsin business. “Northern White” Frac sand mining! In 2021 40% went to Texas 50% goes to the Dakotas and the other 10% goes to manufacturing in the Midwest. WIsconsin lead the nation for years 2012 to 2016 in frac sand production before the bottom fell out of the business. Of 136 mines in 2014 only 83 were still in operations in 2021. I will need some 2 bay hoppers!!!

Enjoy the day

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those sans Diet Dr. Pepper

It's Troy again.

Conference is in full swing again! And, we've run the snack bar out of Diet Dr. Pepper bottles. Normally, I walk through the early morning heat and humididity to get to the local grocery on St. Pete Beach, and purchase a 6 pack of bottles. But, the cooler seemed well stocked.

HAH!. One girl was carrying around a 12 pack of cans from her InstaCart delivery order, but didn't want to miss any sessions, so she hadn't run it back to her room yet.

Did I mention dessert at the confernece? Or Drinks? Can't remember what I posted:

Ok, back to networking and learning. More later.

Morning all,

Not much going on yet today. While not cloudy where I am, you can see them moving in with their lightning off in the distance.
We need the rain badly, but sounds like many others here do as well. Currently 69° with a high later of a humid 88°.

Pest control guy has to reschedule my annual termite inspection after getting pneumonia, but house was treated a few years back and I haven't seen any signs of them. He'll treat if I do. Then I have the flooring company coming out to measure the 3 areas we're replacing the hard surface flooring. Going with a 20 mil LVP as I don't want to do this again. Water proof and supposedly pet proof. While we don't have pets in the house, we do occasionally dog\pet sit for the kids. They're also going to measure for the carpet which will come later.

Otherwise not much going on this weekend. Got to replace the wiper transmission on the boy's 20 year old Cavalier and the spark plugs on the Equinox this weekend, along with getting the master bedroom painting started.

Greeting fellow folks and remodelers along with modelers!
the folks supposedly in the know say that 73 with mostly cloudy will do it for today.
It has been "strange" in the weather department - Yesterday morning I had to turn on the electric heater in the bedroom? It was rather chilly and did not get above 70 during the day. (I know, my blood is just thin and relishes the warmer side of things.)
WALDO - the turtle even has been acting strange; first of all he does not poke his head out until it is sunny. He Has whittled himself out a hole under a large flowering bush along the East side of the yard which has him in a cave like place. Yesterday, he did not appear at all from his hole as it was cloudy and cool all day.
Nothing important on the slate for today - well, I shouldn't say that. SWMBO can't decide if she wants me to try and repair the clothes dryer or get a new one? It sounds as if it has a load of rocks inside it? Nothing is cheap anymore! If it is a simple repair - $120, not so simple $300; a new one is $600-$900 depending on the number of bells and whistles one wants! Dryer is closing in on 20 YO - been a good one.
FLO - people are yelling for you today - I'd tell them to pound sand! While they are pounding - I'll have a BLT with avocado and fries? A diet DP if TROY didn't take them all!

Good Morning All. Clear, muggy and 73° right now. Sure enough it rained yesterday evening, just as I had gotten into the pool. If it was just rain, I would have stayed in since I was already wet. But there was thunder and visible lightning nearby, so out I came. Highs for the next few days in the mid-90's, lows in the upper 70's. Maybe rain again Sunday. Rain total was almost a half inch, depending on how I looked at the gauge.

Yesterday while on the weekly grocery trek, I drove through the campus of my Alma Mater, North Texas State University (NTSU); now called University of North Texas (UNT). I was reminded of several fellow students that went there at the time. Athletes Ron Shanklin and Cedrick Hardman, both of whom I knew because they lived in the dorm that I was in. I knew them mainly because I worked in the cafeteria and served unlimited meat portions to all of the scholarship athletes who lived there. Being jocks, they didn't generally let me in the elevator with them because I was a hippie. Nor did I want to get in with them anyway. After a couple of weeks, there was an opening on the second floor next to the staircase so I took it. Mean Joe Greene left school the semester before I started in 1969. The other famous student was Phyllis George, who I didn't know at all. Of course she went on to become Miss Texas and Miss America after that, before embarking on a broadcasting career. One amazing thing about her was the number of guys who bragged about dating (and other things) her (while at NTSU) after she became Miss America. She must have been busy because there were 1000's of them, some of whom weren't even in the school when she was there.

The grocery trek went mostly well, at least the grocery part. No stock-outs on anything on my list, so I didn't have to go to the dreaded Walmart. Problem on the way home though. The highway department is building a new widened road from the Interstate to the smaller highway where I turn north, six miles of road. It generally still has both lanes open, but you can sometimes get stuck behind a slow-moving dump truck or a terrified driver. Note that the speed limit is still 55 mph. Well my wife didn't want to go that way and insisted that I take a back road that we use occasionally. It's actually shorter but a lot of it is rough asphalt roadway. OK for a while, then we come upon a truck pulling a 14' single-wide trailer that couldn't make the corner into the property where he was headed. No way to go around because there is a fence only 2' off the road on one side and a 4' deep drainage ditch hugging the road on the other side. The road itself is barely 14' wide. Fortunately there was a driveway as soon as we came upon him where I could turn around and not have to back up hundreds of feet to turn around. So about a mile and a half back to a different back road to get around. What should have been a nine mile, 15 minute trip turned into a 15 mile, 25 minute trip. My route through the construction is a 12 mile 12 minute trip, even on a bad day. Easy to go 75-80 mph on the dead flat, dead straight 6 miles nearest the house.

I accomplished two things yesterday out in the train shed, before I decided to do some switching. I added a bunch of figures to the hobby shop, starting with four inside - that's a group of three on the left and a solitary figure on the right talking with the 2D cashier.

Lots more on the outside.

Then I tried out a new product (to me) that I found on the shelf at Hobby Lobby Wednesday.
IMG_0437.JPG

If you will remember from a few months ago, I did a small overgrown scene around a missing knothole in the plywood surface. The water feature didn't turn out like planned.
IMG_0434.JPG

So I tried this stuff out to see if it made any difference.

While it probably should be a bit more muddy, it did make a noticeable difference. I have some brown India Ink that I will dilute and play with.

James - High speed rail is having issues getting off the ground here in Texas. Landowners seem to be the biggest problem right now; the financing and planning are within reach. Earlier this year the Texas Central RR partnered up with Amtrak, which may make things more easy or hard depending on the Amtrak bureaucracy.

Everybody have a wonderful day and an awesome weekend.

Morning -- Looking for 73 degrees and mostly cloudy! We have had lotsa clouds but no moisture.
Here;s a goodie!

I have chased and rode these Alcos in Arkansas. I am actually hoping that Athearn will run the new SD70Aces they have now.....we shall see. The A&M got the 3 demonstrators and repainted them to their scheme.

ARGGG! Just more BFU (big, fat, ugly) locomotives. What do they need with that kind of power?
The Alcos look so much better!
