"some people need killin'"
I see that someone else is either up late, or is having sleeping issues too?

I had an Aunt - lived to 106 - and was one of the most church going and bible thumping people you could meet; that was her favorite sayin'.... quite often I might add.

CURT - I certainly pray you find out and cure the ailment you have.

Poor San Diego cannot seem to get a break - baseball, or football!

Hotter than a pepper sprout yesterday 95 with 50% humidity (high for here) and at least 24 raindrops attacked the windscreen on the way to HD yesterday AM.
Spousal Unit has me building some flour boxes for her and I had forgotten how heavy a 2"x12"x12 foot board is along with a near heart stoppage when looking at the price!
See if I can go back to sleep - just took an Advil.
Hope to be back later.

Good Morning All. Currently 70° (at 0545) and a heavy thunderstorm may be about to hit, followed by a few more waves. I was just out in the dark retrieving the chainsaw which I left by the fallen tree from Friday night. I'm looking forward to some real rain, as it hasn't really rained here since early June. That 0.4" Friday evening only settled the dust for a day at most. That downed tree by the way, is only good for about 1 1/2 days of heating after it dries out.

While I normally no longer keep track of the NFL, it does look like Dallas had their way with the NY Giants last night. I heard a lot of cheers from my wife in the other room.

I did spend a little time after lunch cutting up that tree in the front yard. Afterward I spot mowed some areas with fallen leaves and added them to the compost pile.

A short but productive day yesterday out in the train shed. I continued with the figure painting, doing another round of black, and making more people wear blue jeans. I also dull-coated several new vehicles, and added a driver to one of the tractor-trailers.
Even though these tractors are from Classic Metal Works, there's not much detailing inside the cab. So the driver sits in a real awkward position.

But it works from an outside view.

On this unit I intend to add a little more detailing, like mud flaps on the trailer, they're on the tractor; some marker lights and some weathering. Although I don't know when the weathering will occur. Maybe Tom O will weather a few and I can learn some.
Only one of the dull-coated vehicles made it to the layout so far, in a parking lot as promised.

I have placed another truck to see how I like it, but have not dull-coated or added a driver or taillights.
IMG_0372.JPG

By the way, I failed to acknowledge that all of these new vehicles came from Mikey as he thins out the surplus.

Mikey - I fully agree about the figures and vehicles on a layout. I do now have over 1000 figures, with several hundred more ready as soon as I get in gear.
Curt - Good luck at the VA and I hope that they can correctly diagnose the issue and help. I agree about the medical issues, I retired so I could have more time for doctor appointments it seems, although I got 5 years in before they started mounting up. The cataract surgeries are different as they are self-imposed; 8 visits in 7 weeks so far.
Chad - Believe me, our Austin is a real source of embarrassment to the rest of our state. Way too many Left-Coasters have moved in and brought their values with them. One thing that they brought besides politics was money from selling in the way overpriced state out there. It has driven real estate prices through the roof there and in the surrounding areas, and really increased homelessness. The homeless folks are now competing with the bats for space under freeway overpasses.
Sherrel - 2"x12"x12' - Wow, I hope that they had someone there to help you load it.

Well, today is 9-11 memorial day. Remember all of the victims in your prayers. I might watch the memorial service in New York City with the er, wait...VP! Maybe not!
Everybody have a great day. Unfortunately right now at 0630, the initial thunderstorm disappeared! The back porch is spotted but not completely wet. Another wave might be here soon.

Good morning gang!

68° with light rain now, it rained heavier during the overnight. Daily temp is expected to reach 82°. Yesterday I went to my not so local LHS. Only 2 customers in the store, but the other guy made their day. His tab was almost $1200.00, and it was mostly flex track and cases of cork, with a small smattering of scenery stuff. Made my paltry $75.00 sale look minor!

7 more working days of bell to bell plus work days to day(relief comes on the 19th) so layout progress will be minimal. Soon it will be my turn!

BBL

Your $75 also pays his bills, never worry about what you spend in the LHS

Good morning from a cool damp morning in So. Central WIsconsin. If I had know 4:00AM was a good posting time I would have come into the diner. I was awake! From 3:30 till around 5 I tossed and turned. Got out of bed at 7:45 so I did go back to sleep.

I watched the full Packer/Bear game. My thoughts, if the Bear QB is their savior they are in big trouble. It’s way too early but the Love guy in GB does seem to have lots of talent around him. Not sure though he is long term for this team. The previous 2 stars at GB QB had a charisma this guy doesn’t. The announcers were awful IMO and would not shut up about comparing Love to MR. Diva now of the Jets. Mr. Diva didn’t win many games his first starting season and I expect the Packers to be 8-9 like last season. I just looked, Mr. Diva was 6-10 in his 1st starting season, but you could already tell that year he had the “IT” factor.

22 years since 9/11! Wow it sure does not seem that long ago. It’s one of those days when I can exactly remember what I was doing when I heard and then saw the planes. Our niece was 2 weeks into her freshmen year at NYU when she saw the second plane hit the tower. A few others were the JFK shooting, the Moon landing and the Challenger disaster

never forget

Good Morning. 74° mostly cloudy, and fog.

September 11, 21 years later. Memorials are only real to the familys of the victims, to the rest of us who lived through the horror, either in the vicinity or through television coverage, it's a sad, but fading memory. Hard to realize that a whole generation of people born after 9/11 have come of age.

The Gotham Football Giants were humiliated by the Cowboys from Texas 40 - 0. 'splain dat Mr Mara? Tonight, Buffalo visits the Meadowlands to challenge the Jersey Jets... It will be interesting to see if Buffalo can out do dem Cowboys.

For all the Thunder and Lightning and rain events since Friday, we have only 2.78" cumulative measured rainfall.

Today, is chore day. Once that is complete, assuming I still have energy, I will work on a project gondola.

Yeah, I was feeling stressed (strong physical manifestations) when I went to bed. Woke up after an hour or two and couldn't go back to sleep, so decided to work on fixing the wife's credit card issue with one of her subscriptions (virtual card that had expired -- the sticking point is the subscription is in Japanese). I didn't want to forget it and while it was not the cause of my stressed out feeling, it wouldn't leave my mind.

I finally got it fixed but it was a PITA. They have a US version but her login was not valid on the US version. (Cooking site). I got the new virtual card made to replace the expired one but couldn't figure out why I couldn't log in to her account (in English). Finally figured out that the account on the Japanese side of the service was separate, which is why the "change my password" link wasn't being sent (not even being rejected on the server side). Finally got it, and after stopping in here and a few other places, tried to go back to sleep. Finally made it, though drifted in and out a little. Tired today.

In other news, last week my son (20 years old) got a call to be a missionary for the LDS church. (He submitted an application -- they don't just call you out of the blue). This was something he decided he wanted to do on his own earlier this summer.

He was called to the mission centered in Sapporo Japan. He is quite excited. He had 4 semesters in HS of Japanese through an online HS (augmented his in person school). His mom had been a missionary in what was called the Sendai Mission, which was closed and merged into Sapporo in the north and Tokyo North mission in the south so he has a chance to also be some places his mom was at 30+ years ago.

We're excited for him. He starts the missionary training school on Jan 1 through at home learning and reports there physically Jan 9 or 10 or so. He should go to Japan around March 10.

We're hoping as a family to take another trip to see family next July/August time frame (planned since before he decided he wanted to go) so hopefully we'll be able to visit him one afternoon on his so-called preparation-day. Since it's summer when we plan on going we were already planning to spend some time on Hokkaido (where Sapporo is) since it's cooler and nicer there in summer compared to Osaka and Tokyo area or south (and Hokkaido is really wintery and snowy and cold in winter so we've not ventured there when in Japan in winter),

Morning all,

65° and light rain. Supposed to be on and off light showers today with the high temp at 70°. Getting ready to actually apply paint to the walls. Humidity in the house is high due to the temp being below the set point for the A\C, so I turned it down as I need to be able to see what I'm painting through the sweat. Looks like that's going tto be my week, but suspected as much earlier. At least I was able to cancel the reservations we had.

Almost ready to start raising the humidity levels again...BBL

Good morning, all. Though I was some 1500 plus miles away, the attack on the World Trade Center had a profound effect on me.

I may have posted this before. My first full time job was with Lafeyette Shipping Co. a customs brokerage. 1964 saw me enlist, and my boss Mr. Elisburg was negotiating a rental contract for office space in Tower One. Lafeyette Shipping Co. did move to Tower One and was there that fateful day. I don't know if Mr. Elisburg was still running the company or not. His name doesn't appear the list of dead or missing. A woman, who was a friend when we growing up, was working in Long Island City. LIC is just across the river from Manhattan. She was looking out the window when plane one hit, and subsequently plane 2 and the collapses. My brother-in-law was a Port Authority detective, and lost many friends and work mates.

I may have posted this before as well, but it is worth another view. https://biggeekdad.com/2011/09/boatlift/

STAY SAFE

I had one of those nights myself. I hope you sleep well tonight.

Congratulations on raising such a fine young man!

Afternoon All,

Back from the VA. The doc's opinion is either Covid or the Flu. She won't know until she sees the bloodwork. I also did a chest Xray. The doc says I may have some Anemia issues also. Fun Times. One of my grandsons have Covid and it looks like MOH fractured her foot on the trip. Sigh. When it rains it pours. I don't have the energy to do my Monday chores so they will be Tuesday chores. :(

Thank you all for the well wishes.

midalyto- Thank you.

Hughie- Yes, I remember the day very well. I was on duty as a PM in Orlando.

Chad- Congrats to your son.

Willie- Nice looking trucks.

Terry- I love the "Aliens" themed coffee cup.

Smudge- Interesting video.

Louis- I worked with an EMT that was there. He could be a real p.i.t.a but he was a straight shooter. He always takes 9-11 off.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I have not been able to watch footage of the World Trade Center or speak much of it since that terrible day.
You should look at a couple. What struck me the most, no one gave a big rats ass as to the color of your skin, your religion, your sex, your political leanings. They just grabbed one another and made their way to safety amidst what had to be the most chaotic day in their life.
Why? Why does it take a disaster for everyone to work together. Look at the aftermath from hurricanes Harvey, Ike, Katrina and Sandy, Look the strength of the people in the towns where tornados have leveled their communities. Most recent Maui, where islander and tourist alike worked together to survive. Why does it take a disaster for us to pull together? Can you imagine just how great this country could be if we all pulled in the same direction?
I hope this is not considered as political, for it surely isn't intended to be. Merely a question from an old man.
