Good evening gang!

4th day of h.e. doubletoothpics concluded today, and I'm not whooped! Yay!

As I "threatened" the other day, I am about to divulge my method of making a lift bridge. This is not a wholly original concept, but the best practices gleaned form my observations of many different bridges. The bridge itself is made from plywood with 1x2 stiffeners, further reinforced with spline roadbed. The plywood, roadbed and splines are cut at a 45° with the tail of the cut one way, and the head another. The bridge is hinged not at the end, but approximately 6 inches from the end. This allows that part of the bridge to drop down when the other end of the bridge is lifted.
IMG-1379.jpg
IMG-1380.jpg
The hinges themselves are large heavy duty gate hinges. Probably overkill for this application but they are also not flimsy! In the background you will see the other bridge, guarding the laundry room door!
image_67531265.JPG

The track itself at the top of the gate is 9 inch sectional, while the rest of the bridge track is flex. The reason I went with sectional track at the head is that it wont move. Flex has a tendency to slide. I didn't want it to slide and get bent when the bridge closed on it. it is also not beveled, no need to. The gap here looks large, but it is only about 0.025 inch

(part 2 follows)

Good evening.
77° currently. Daily range 68° and 94°. By 4PM most of my yard is shaded, so I spent 40" starting the weeding around the patio. This morning, we drove over to BJ's and replenished the pantry. Then we filled the tank up. Price was about $2.74/gallon there,vs. $3.79/gallon at Wawa and QuikChek. When we came home we put everything away then had lunch. While we were under "heat advisory and air quality warnings, it really wasn't that bad. Still no where near the local records. Funny thing was the large display of air conditioners at the warehouse. This is the first "heat wave" since July.

Most MLB games are just starting, so too early for scores. The Phillies did beat the Padres 5 - 1 in a early West Coast game Baltimore - Anaheim starts at 9:40 PM.

Karl: You Have a point...Terry, good report, but Normal? Cholesterol, is a pain to regulate unless you are on a Statin.

Curt: Growing up, our family didn't even have a window fan until 1957. None of my schools were air conditioned, and I walked, no air conditioned, tinted window buses. Poor dears might get heat stroke, walking from the school building to the bus...

Karl: Awesome lift bridge.

The fun part of bridge track is...............bevel cutting!

As I stated before, when one end of the bridge goes up, the other goes down! To do so is to cut the rail no only to length, but also at an angle.

The bridge down and at rest,

Both bridges line up perfectly when lowered. I do intend to install aluminum guides to keep them in alignment, and of course electrical wiring with a safety to kill power on 6 feet of either side of the bridge should it be lifted while power in on the layout. But hey, we are in the beginning stages here, with more to come!

Thought? Questions?

The doc kind of didn't mention my high blood pressure, which he prescribed a new-ish medication that is known to cause extreme diarrhea... I'm trying to figure out a way to tell him thanks, but no thanks. If it works, why change it? I'm on lisinopril, which has been working for several years now.

Tell him you did your time with that side effect a few months ago, and you're not going back to it.

Why not a pin in the center of the track, that's held down by the weight of the bridge? It would certanly be less complicated than switches and relays to turn off power to that section.
Thinking of something along those lines. I do have to kill power 6 feet out from the bridges, as several of my steamers have current keepers and can travel a few feet without power.

Oh, the joys of aging. My daily multivitamins constipate me, my metformin gives me the poops! I have to remember to take them together to counteract each one’s action. Buckle up buttercup. It gets fun from here!

Good morning all around modelers, story writers, characters, medical wanna be, patients, soon to be patients and travelers. It’s a cool morning in my part of WIsconsin. 58f degrees at 5:28 when I started my laps in the pool. 60f degrees at 6:10 when I got out. Pool water for Willies info was 82. We are heading for a high today per the Weather Channels app of 69.

The no rain chances of 21% yesterday were wrong. 3 rain events of which 2 left traces in the weather rain beaker and a third event that left just under 3/4”. Around 2PM I got a call from the landscapers if they could show up early. They were scheduled for the end of October. Of course I said yes not expecting them to say they will be here after the noon hour today. When I asked why so soon and the lady said she didn’t know was just asked to call me. She did say I could ask the project manager who will be on site and gave me the name of the lady. Terry was thrilled when I told her last night. Easier to sell when everything is done was one of her comments.

I have trains today to weather. Sulfur cars and finishing up 2 locomotives. All had the initial clear coat added after these pictures

9 new sulfur cars and 1 to be stripped and weathered.

If anyone is interested in a sulfur car either out of the box or weathered let me know via forum email. I have plenty more!

Volleyball on campus at 7 tonight and I might just have a hot dog at the concession stand and a soda. Terry’s not here to frown at me and I love a good hot dog. The ones on campus are pretty good. While we have decent seats I am going with my friend the hockey coach. He schedules himself to every competition on campus at least twice for each team and we will sit in the high roller club section! So that’s where I will be for tonight and tomorrow’s game. The life guard twins are splitting our tickets and each taking a boy friend. They were thrilled when I asked if they wanted the tickets

enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Clear skies and a bit cooler this morning at 75°, but it is forecast to get up to 107° both today and tomorrow. Then into the low 80's with rain starting Tuesday. We'll see. Temperature yesterday only got to 99°. I'll be removing the shade umbrellas from the pool this weekend in order to maintain the temperature near 86°, where it ended up yesterday evening. I might get another ten days of use from it this season. The cloudy skies from Tuesday through Friday will be a bigger factor than the cooler air temperatures. I do not even consider heating it.

My wife hit me with a surprise yesterday, her sister and husband from Tennessee are in the area so we will be visiting with them for lunch today, somewhere near Ft Worth, location unknown yet. That delays this week's grocery trek until tomorrow. I dislike going on Fridays due to the much larger crowds, but they do give 4x fuel points for shopping on Fridays. I already have 50¢/gal in the bank, tomorrow would probably get me to 90¢/gal. Oh well! The beer fridge is full so an extra day won't matter much.

Due to the ongoing drought, and despite me watering around the perimeter of the house; the pier and beam foundation is shifting on us. Some doors no longer line up just right and there is a crack developing in the sheetrock in one unused room. The ground here moves a lot even under normal conditions.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued to work on the restaurant project. First by adding an interior that I printed from the Internet and adding signs leftover from another kit.

IMG_0311.JPG

Added three figures inside although only one can be readily seen since the other two are children.
IMG_0315.JPG

Then it was time to add figures to the sidewalk.
IMG_0320.JPG
IMG_0319.JPG

I didn't do any figure painting as I repaired a fence that had fallen over elsewhere that I discovered while staging pictures for the layout thread. There is other evidence of a rodent running amok out there that most likely knocked it over. Traps have been set.

Troy -
I'm curious what the neighbors think about you and the missus going out to pee?
Doesn't apply to the missus's here, but that's the SOP among all of my male neighbors. Reduces strain on the septic systems and saves water.;)
Terry - Even though my cholesterol level is well within the good range at 143, my doctor insisted that I restart my use of the statin that I discontinued over a year ago. Supposedly will prevent some kind of build-up in the blood system. I never told him that I stopped until after 15-16 months! My doc also randomly changes BP medications every so often for no reason. Usually the week after I get a 90 day supply from the mail-order pharmacy.
Karl - I thankfully don't have any side effects from any of my medications. My BIL has the same Metformin side effect that you do. My doc recently reduced my dosage since I have been keeping the A1c between 5.4 and 5.6.
Patrick - Keep that smoke up there. The AQI this morning moved into the moderate range at 53, after nearly 3 weeks below 40.

Today is National Beer Lovers Day, so have a few (at home) if you indulge. If not, I will hoist one for you. Today is also Buddy Holly's 87th birthday if he were still here.
Everybody have a great day.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and yogurt lovers and haters

It's troy again.

Well, my fancy hot box to bake the 3D printer filament isn't so hot... or I've got a bad roll of filament. Not sure which.

The glass point temp for the filament is around 200° C... and the box only gets to 50° C, but the filament is sticking, and I can hear the roll, or even the box knock hard on the shelf. I figure the printer is pulling hard enough to break the tension of whatever is holding the roll in place.

So, I put the spool back on the printer arm, outside of the box. Every time I go into the workshop, I unspool about an hour's worth of filament and wind it back to make sure it's not stuck somewhere.

In wording the words news, I got to the scene where the nasty talking skunk arrives... but I made sure to add discussion from other characters about how skunks make nice pets... not that you can have them as such in Canada. And Alberta bans rats as pets, too.

Oh, and one of the characters discussing it writes SCUBA thrillers, and mentions that there is a skunk fish... I had to look it up. While I'd love to have a reef aquarium, I don't need yet another expensive hobby.

Curt and Hughie and TomO and Willie and Karl and JOE -- NICE PHOTOS ALL.
Darn computer is stuck on BOLD again?

JOE - That pic of the Nassau interlocking is a REALLY GREAT PHOTO!

I have to make another appointment today! Still have "some" soreness with the throat and my UTI is flaring up again. DangIT.

Bennet (the youngest of the two kids with us now who is Eight going on 15) crashed yesterday afternoon on an two wheel scooter, totally broke off one of his two front teeth, and we spent a few hours at the dentist.
Fortunately, the youngest daughter here works for the dentist and he came out quickly!
I am not quite sure of how the outcome may be, but the tooth was given some pain meds and "glued" back in?
It was broken almost at the gumline - I hear him up - so I will go see how he is doing this morning?

Good afternoon.
Paid my 3Q property taxes, normally due on August 1, but they were so late with the tax bill that tomorrow is the extended due date. Next one is in November...I have to readjust the amount I set aside each month to make the Escrow work. Still cheaper than allowing the bank to do it.
After rendering to Caesar, we went to the County park for a walk. GPS recorded 0.54 mi today, same walk at a slower pace was 0.59 mi on Sunday? Same phone, same app, same location. Well, it was a walk, counts as cardio exercise.
Willie: Nice upgrade at Zorba's....Do they dance and throw plates there?
94° currently, heat warning until 1900, this evening. No Air Quality Advisories or warnings, although it's hotter, and more humid today. Go figure. TV news is giving only heat index temperatures as actual temperatures, and urging people to stay in and stay tuned...It's actually a nice day, if you avoid the direct sun.
NFL opens tonight. Detroit @ KC 2020 EDT on NBC, for those interested.
First day of school for the grand Children in upper NY, and for our local elementary school darlings. Umpteen school buses running around this morning ending the relative quiet.

Afternoon All,

Started out the day doing inside stuff then son and I went outside and spent about 90 minutes pulling weeds and bagging up them. We ended up with 3 XL lawn bags. Of course, I almost over did it again in the heat. It took about an hour to recover with 40 oz. of water and electrolyte drink. After getting cleaned up I feel better. Tomorrow Dad has a Cat Scan in the morning.

Louis- Great photo.

Terry- Good news. I would tell the doc no. It's your health.

Karl- Excellent job on the bridge.

TomO- Enjoy the game and hot dog.

Willie- Very nice detailing. I hope you get the shifting corrected. Good luck catching Mickey.

Troy- That's great about the skunks in your story. If you have a saltwater aquarium, be careful about placement. Too close to the wall and the salt will eat the drywall. Don't ask me how I know.

Joe- Neat picture.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Scooters are dangerous. Glad it’s only the teeth but if the dentist glued them back I’m thinking those are not his baby teeth!

When we were at the temporary house this Summer I would watch the kids on their E-scooters fly through the stop sign and cringe. Mentioned it to one of the kids, all nice, and his response was they have watch out for us! Thankfully to splats yet!

Sherrel, did u finish the meds the doc put u on?

The 9 year old grandson told his dad as they were driving to the g/d’s ball game he was taking his bike to school! Dad said no and then got sassed back. There is a very nice bike in the garage this morning when I took out the garbage!
