Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk at 71F and cool. It was very nice. After breakfast I did several chores before making 10 trees and after lunch, I planted 3 at the hobo camp (to partially screen them) and the rest in and around the pasture. I also "planted" cows and a couple of horses. When the hay bales show up, I'll post a couple of photos. Tomorrow MOH is packing up the van and leaving Wednesday morning for Skunkfest (it's real) in OH someplace. She will meet with her BFF in SC and they will go together. I think she'll be back on Monday.

Joe- We feed our skunks a tbsp of yogurt every morning. Around here the bicyclist would be run over.

Louis- When I was growing up Mom & Dad did 1 big grocery shopping a month. That included all the milk and bread for the month. Let me tell you thawed frozen milk is disgusting and it took me years after leaving home before I would drink milk. Nice remembrance of the man that raised you as his own.

TomO- That's a shame about the grandfather in the story. It sure sounds like the woman is taking advantage of him.

moermusic- Nice collection of photos.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I forgot to post my hobo camp. The trees behind the camp are what I added today.

Joe - Sorry to read about the issues with the replacement knee. My wife is real happy with hers after they re-did the infected one. She still can't keep up with me when walking, but the knees have nothing to do with that.
Willie: to clarify, there is nothing wrong with the joint...it's titanium, it can't hurt, and outside of clicking the first time down the steps in the morning, it works as intended. The problem is that the related nerves, tendons, and muscles have never healed to where they were before the surgery. And in spite of various levels of physical therapy and exercise since the surgery, it remains at that level.
Maybe my expectations are too high, but my other knee, which is also bone on bone, gives me greater range of motion, and significantly less pain than the one with the artificial joint. It has definitely benefited more from the therapy and exercise, than the leg with the replacement joint.

That's behind my decision not to have any elective orthopedic surgery in the foreseeable future.

Happy Labor Day! It's 89° and finally sunny. The morning fog gave way to an unexpected thunder storm, which finally gave way to the predicted sunny afternoon. Big difference is the sudden increase in humidity. Today, I'm just chilling out, and relaxing. No exercise or work planned. I do have to make up a shopping list for Home Depot tomorrow. Wednesday is looking like a Costco day.

Curt: Not for nothing, the stuff works...Bicyclists around here disappear on week days, once school starts, the implication is they are mostly teachers and / or students. Jersey drivers have a reputation, but they would never consider running them down.. To someone from Jersey, whining about it on the community Facebook page allows them to be heard, let off stream, and brag about their dash cam all at once. ;) ;)

The hobo camp looks great.

Good afternoon. I've spent the last several hours actually working on my temporary railroad, and running trains. There is a spot on the layout, of course the most difficult to access, that has been giving problems to steam and larger diesels. My Centipede will lose contact (!) and stall at that location, and my L2s would derail the front driver. Of course, neither would do it while I was standing there staring at them, only when I turned my head for a nanosecond. My M1 would also derail the front tender truck in the same location.
After a lot of staring intently at the spot. I finally discovered the track leading through the end of the curve into the Peco turnout there was about a half a millimeter lower than the turnout. So, I massaged the track upward a CH there, and the Centipede will now go through the spot about 80% of the time without stalling. The Mike would still derail its first driver. I started looking further, and found a small kink in a rail joint at the next section of track. The driver would partially lift at that point, the engine would continue around the curve to the turnout, where the driver would lift the rest of the way off the rail, and drop off on the wrong side.
That took care of the L2s, but the M1 would still derail the tender truck. After fiddling with it for a while, I noticed the connecting wires between the tender and engine didn't have as much slack as I would expect. I removed the tender shell, and moved the wires so there was more wire there. A test showed it now travels through the entire layout without derailing. Yay, me! Next up, remembering to call BLI tomorrow, and order a new pilot for the M1 (don't ask!), as well as some traction tires for it. My L2 will outpull it by a wide margin. Of course, the L2 will outpull my ABA set of F7s, too. It also outpulls my UP light Mike, which is the exact same engine, other than having "PENNSYLVANIA" painted on the tender. Maybe that's it, the weight of all the extra letters is adding to its pulling power... Yeah, I'll go with that.

Good afternoon gang!
Been down the basement since breakfast at 9. Working on the layout and listening to Jimmy Buffett. Getting hungry now(Its 4:19 now). Getting the other lift bridge built and track on it, plus I've been working on the removable section that traverses the closet that houses the well controls and water treatment system.

Milk: What you buy in the supermarket is too watered down for me, even whole milk. See, I was raised on straight from the cow, unpasteurized, milk from Brown Swiss cows. You had to shake the gallon jug before you could pour it because there was 2 inches of cream that has risen to the top. It was kinda like putting melted ice cream on your Corn Flakes. Oh yeah!

TomO, that young ladies Grandpa needs to cut the cord. She will never learn to stand on her own until she falls on her face. I can't see a positive outlook for him.

Good early evening. Got a few things done on this me day! The SIL texted about 3PM asking if I wanted to come over as he had the neighborhood coming over. I said thanks but no.

Got some weathering done. This is posted on the Continuous thread…

Read a few things online but nothing of any great importance

Took an older weathered CP boxcar and added some graffiti and just now realize I have not taken any pictures.

Looked over the bids I got from 2 companies for a renovation project I am working on. This was the 1st project of I had hoped many that was drawing me back into working again. The guy I was going to partner with started changing the deal before anything was signed (thankfully) so I am on my own. I can handle it but I was hoping for a partner to work with not named Terry o take some of the load. The SIL is interested in a surprise to me.

Enjoy the evening

Tom O: Love the beat up gon.
Karl: Progress on the layout.👍

The mid day rain storm sort of set the stage for the rest of the day. I spent the afternoon cleaning up files in my documents folder.
Later I grilled a couple of NY Strip Steaks that came out perfect. Meanwhile the wife roasted a potato + yellow squash dish that was outstanding. Once in a while everything works out.

Good morning. It's 71, clear, and mostly dark.
I have a doctor's appointment for this morning, for a meet & greet and physical. I've managed to keep my NC doctor until now, using Mychart, but it's been a year this coming Thursday since my last visit, and I need to get a local one.

Good Morning,

Currently 80° with a storm line just having passed through part of the area. Pretty well hit or miss with more miss than hit. Supposed to be Sunny and 96° later.

Back in the office and the weekend went pretty well. Backups are nearly completed for the 2nd round, although a couple of machines are still running the first run. Got to get to a couple of tickets that are going to be an issue for the 2 attorneys working for the city. The lead needs access to her subordinates directory that lives on another machine and the subordinate needs access to a directory on the city hall server. Neither one is difficult, but based on the transcript of what they attempted, they way over-complicated and muddled up the process while I was out on Friday. They spent a couple hours on it and this "old man" will spend 10 minutes and have them what they need. I know, I've been doing for years longer than all my cohorts have been alive.

Oh well...Otherwise it was a good weekend.

Flo: Everyone's coffee on me again.

Good morning gang!

Been at work since 6:20 this morning since my work partner is on vacation until the 19th. This will be my normal arrival time til then. My own 2 weeks in hell. Not to be outdone, I have 3 weeks of vacation saved up, paybacks may be in order! <WEG>

Coffee please Flo, on Patrick's tab!

Weatherwise Sunny and hot today, high of 95° for the next 4 days, the 81° Saturday.

Back to the slave galley, BBL

Tonight with a little bit of luck lift bridge progress pics!

Good Morning All. Clear and a rather warm 81° out there this morning. Supposed to be 103° today after an even 100° yesterday. Actually not all that unusual for September around here.

Back to the medical grind today with back to back appointments with the cardiologist to review some ultrasound results from July, and then to what I think is the last follow-up for the cataract surgeries last month. Not expecting anything dire.

Out in the train shed yesterday, it was a very short day. I was busy with the pulled pork and homemade coleslaw. I did get some more painting done on the figures and I now have about 30 ready for dull coating, which I will do today.
Meanwhile a few pics from the archives.

Joe - I don't remember when you had your knee replacement, but it did take my wife about 15 months for all of the muscles, tendons, etc, to get into sync in one knee, the other was about 12 months.
Tom O - Gondola is looking good.

Gotta go for the doctor appointment. Everybody have a great day.

Good morning from what will be a steamy hot So. Central WIsconsin day. The sleep was erratic last night and now I have a hacking cough. 9:15am doctor visit with the GP. High 90’s later, possible T-Storms with local flooding. The last rain here was 2.75” on August 14th. The rain is welcome, the storms, not so much.

The solar guy is coming out today around 1, for an appointment made Friday last week. The metal work for the lap pool is up as are the 2 end walls. The installing foreperson said everything is set up for solar since the building runs east to west and the south wall is clear of any trees. We already have panels set up below the lap pool as it is set on a south sloping hill. Just never thought of putting them on the roof of the pool building. I am just checking out prices. But, we need more power generation. The solar and wind setup we have for the stables are fine. I am not as happy with the pool and house set ups. The backup generator has come on a few times meaning the house/pool setup is not enough. Mainly it’s the pools! Other then internet and natural gas we supply our own electric, water and septic.

Other than my 2 appointments today what happens, happens. No other plans. The grandson has his 1st day of the new school year today but the granddaughter’s is tomorrow. Some time at the bench today, deck time and whatever. The grass doesn’t look like it’s grown any since since last Wednesday, so no need to cut.

The yogurt I eat is Oikos greek style triple zero that actually is very good. when combined with the various granola flavors it’s a good variety but does get boring.

That one is good. Recently not been eating yoghurt but the Triple Zero is fine but "thin". Since i am doing low carb high fat I add a spoon of MCT oil to it and that makes it much more creamy tasting.

While not eating yoghurt the last several months (mainly in protest to the huge price increases) I did buy a "case" of 16 of the Chobani Greek Zero Sugar (zero added sugar) at Costco since it was on the monthly sale and was less than $9 for the whole box. It was pretty good with the MCT oil added.

I've had good liver. When cooked correctly it can be good. It's not usually cooked correctly.

Yoghurt is always good in my book.

As of today it's a little over 38 months. It's sore enough to be a distraction, and it does affect my balance, which is why when I leave the house I bring along a cane. Not what I envisioned. It's water over the damn at this point, so I guess I can live with it.
