Good afternoon. Going to make it another quickie today. Just sitting at the computer makes the arm hurt.

Willie - great photos. I havebeen watching videos on the USS Texas. I had visited it many years ago and am happy that it is getting the sttention it needs. Must have been fun towing it to the dry dock with so much right rudder in it.

Curt - Also enjoyed your photos. I always like seeing electrics even if there;s on half on one on a photo.

Jeff - From what I've been told, Shoulder surgery can be the most painful. Still haven't figured out how to get my pants up and be comfortable.

Joe - I have been giving the ex a bunch of crap about her wanting to move back to Florida because she didn't like winters here. As far as I know, Montana has never had one.

Ken - I will have to agree with you on politics and how people react. There is one thing that I haven't figured out yet and that is why there is so much hatred for Trump. I even wonder if the haters know why they hate him. One on one, I don't really care for the man, but did appreciate what he had done for the country. That will probably piss Terry off. I went probably 20 years before pumping my septic tank. Due to the number of bedrooms, I had to put in a 1,000 tank and with only 4 people had no problems. Just figured one day that it should be done. Had to get a piece of culvert and stand it on end over that hatch. Mine was down almost 8 feet to the hatch. Went right to it. Nice being around when things were built.

Dave - Awesome photos. Did notice the size of his hands. I have to laugh at some people talking and using their hands. Some motion is norman but some people look like a trained seal waving their flippers.

TomO - Like the photos and the weathering job. Thumb up.gif The joke about the dogs is so true.

Arm hurts. Going to post a few photos. Joe, you're making me hungry. Glad that my daughter made a number of dinners for her dad before she left.

Fresh donuts.

He made an unusual post #942 about a week ago about taking a break from social media until after the election. I didn't think that he meant the Coffee Shop too. He stated "After a couple of recent run-ins on social media", so I don't know whether the controversial removal of posts regarding immigrants had anything to do with that.
So both moderators are on hiatus over the removal of the posts.

Terry's last post, referenced in your comments, was mainly directed at Face Book, rather than here, but perhaps that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Hope both Terry and Sherrel are all right.

It has to be stressful, to try and keep everyone happy, while enforcing forum rules. It's also hard to retain objectivity when everyone has an opinion.

That is a mystery, Chet. People hate him, just to hate him but for the most part, based upon a rumor?

I'm thinkin I should put something over the septic tank opening pit that I dug. About the only thing that might pass by there at night is a deer or bear.

I've been kicking around the idea of a grade crossing system on the empire. Too many fatalities at that one road and it's rural so it takes a while for emergency vehicles to reach the scene. I started a thread on it in the electronics section. Azatrax might have what I need.

Not much on TV Tuesday night. Think I'll spend the rest of the day downstairs working on the loco flat car load and doing some more scenery work.

So I'm officially back working on my layout until April. I don't enjoy playing golf in the cold so it's model RR time for me now. I want to get my lower deck crossing gates working again. I ruined the board just before golf season and thought I'll get it working again after golf in the fall. I also want to get my new upper deck crossing going. Just lights and a bell for this one. I got out my boxes of electronic stuff ( I have 4 boxes of stuff ) to try and work out and infrared tester I talked about earlier today. I added a video link to the lower deck gates when they were working correctly.

Evening all,

Cheese steaks went fine. Rolls are hard to get as our local Kroger has really cut a lot of products off the shelf. Their superstore 12 miles away still has a whole lot bigger selection as does the local Wal-Mart. Don't like them as much with peppers, but just a little black pepper as we are cutting wayyy back on sodium.

Apparently I have a nephew decided to ride out the storm in FL. Lives 40 miles from the coast and the house has steel storm shutters on it. Something I don't need here....

When it comes to politics, I've gotten to the point in life that while I have my strong opinions, I try to avoid talking about them in order to maintain the peace. I am not always successful but I make the effort. I have friends from the extreme left to very conservative (nothing extreme right as in nazi or skinhead or anything stupid like that) and I'm friends with all of them for reasons other than politics and try and keep it like that. I don't "unfriend" people I disagree with and I have some very vocal friends on FB who are 180 deg opposite my strongly held beliefs. Most of them are friends either because of music (making) or work/computers etc. I just keep it that way and avoid the politics.

Only from my pseudo-anonymous Twitter do I occasionally make strongly political posts. Mostly I just like and retweet others where I agree.

This is not to say I would be offended by poltical discussions here. I'd probably try hard to stay out of them or at least on the sidelines with only occasional comments. It's not worth the agravation to argue with people who disagree with you about politics, religion, etc. Find some common ground (in our case the model railroads) to base interactions on.

What is different about today's brand of politics and the politics of years past, is the lack of tolerance toward those who disagree with one's position. We all have an opinion, and we are entitled to express it. That's what Democracy is about. Back in the late 1970s to early 1980s, I was politically active. I actually knew more people of the opposing view. Instead of shunning me, or slandering me, they respected me and tried to understand my viewpoint. I treated them in a like manner. it wasn't until the late 80s, after I moved to Jersey, that I encountered people who insisted that they were right, and anyone who disagreed with them was a mortal enemy. I might add, that by that time,I had little time for politics, and less interest.

I don't know when the tide changed, but now it's commonplace to hate those you disagree with. Growth of unbalanced media may be one factor, but not so in 1986.

What angered me about the immigration discussion, was that it was not political. Most commenters avoided partisan positions. Yet suddenly, someone forced a decision to delete the entire discussion. That's censorship. It goes beyond the rules about politics and religion. There was no animosity within the discussion, Nothing bad enough to warrant what happened.

I did consider leaving the forum, but like Willie and a few others, I decided to remain for now. No one has to agree with me. If you disagree, thats fine. I don't like steam locomotives either, others do. That's what makes the world go around.

Louis: They came up in conversation just the other day, I could not remember their name. What was the name of the place at the intersection of Boston and Aliceanna? Building looked like the bow of a ship. Haussners was on Eastern Ave, and Karson's in Dundalk, right?
I think it is Captain Jack's and it is still there. I only ate there once. I will let you know for sure of the name the next time I go past it.
I think Haussners' was on Eastern and Highland Ave. In Highland Town. It is an apartment building now.

I am not and never was much for sit down restaurants. One I did like was the Greek Islands restaurant on Eastern in Greektown. I knew the owner and Chef. He previously ran a fancy hotel in DC I can't remember the name. of it. Richard Nixon was a regular.

Y'all are right ...Terry and Sherrel (sp?) need to come back so we can enjoy them.
At the bottom of each page is a link to "terms and rules" that I know you all have read ... Right? Says nothing about specific subjects or ideas, more of a general follow this.

"You agree to not use the Service to submit or link to any Content which is defamatory, abusive, hateful, threatening, spam or spam-like, likely to offend, contains adult or objectionable content, contains personal information of others, risks copyright infringement, encourages unlawful activity, or otherwise violates any laws. You are entirely responsible for the content of, and any harm resulting from, that Content or your conduct.

We may remove or modify any Content submitted at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Requests for Content to be removed or modified will be undertaken only at our discretion. We may terminate your access to all or any part of the Service at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice."

Pretty much standard as a UAP although other sites spell out more stuff. The "Likely to offend" portion was what was probably used for the removal and censorship along with the 2nd paragraph of the quote above. Whether it was founded or not, the powers that be could remove any post on a whim. So if I said something like "x scale sux and those whom use it sux too" the post could be removed and I could be severely punished; what ever that could mean. When I ran a forum years ago, everything was taken with a grain of salt. Knew who the complainers were for the most part and pretty much ignored them unless it was way out there. Normal folk (hmmm are we normal? We still play with trains.) get caught up in threads and sometimes post the wrong thing or don't choose their words correctly. Happens and that is why you can go back and edit any post. Sure after the fact and *some* may have already seen it, but it is there.

I for one think that this is still a good forum and I at least try to hold my tongue although it sometimes does not work. Everybody that I have seen here for the most part are careful of what they say, do so with respect and I do not believe there has been any finger pointing or name calling. Could be that the powers that be did what they did because of life circumstances and not really associated with anyone or topic in this forum. Maybe it was a bad choice, maybe not. Hope we did not loose many members because of it.
