Morning all,

57° and clear going for a high of 88° later. Been busy with stuff that happened overnight.

Going to make cheesesteaks for supper tonight. Bought a bunch of shaved steak packages a few months and once defrosted, cooked with some onions and a little Provolone cheese. makes a great cheese steak sandwich. Hopefully there's steak buns when I go to the store after work...

Flo: Coffee and a Blue Plate Special this morning...Thanks!

Snowman: "Heavens to Murgatroyd" was Snagglepuss (Hanna-Barbera instead of Warner Bros.) Sad that I know that...

I'm lazy. I snag a meatloaf from the deli, cut it into slices, slather them with either mustard or horseradish sauce and sandwich them between hamburger buns.

I also have a collection of really fine cookware--pots and pans--I bought one piece at a time from Italy: Silga. Perhaps because Italians make fine sports cars too, and even though I was raised in a Porsche 356. But why did I buy them? I have no friends here where I live, so why have tools to cook for twenty or so?

Still remember building houses from Lincoln logs on the passenger side floor, while dad bolted us across the desert through Four Corners.

I also distinctly remember building Lego at my (future) girlfriends house, and thinking: I really hope there are Lego's in heaven.

Good Morning All from Gulf Shores AL where it is mostly clear and 71°. I don't have a hurricane status report yet as my wife is still asleep and the TV is not on. Yesterday, it appeared to be taking a more easterly track away from us. Windy with intermittent light rain seems to be the forecast.

I miss my desktop computer. This laptop is hard for me to use, even though I have a mouse for it. Keys are too sensitive and I absolutely hate this touchpad, which I accidently touch and it sends me off to another world. I am using the camera itself as an external drive, which is inconvenient at best. Plus some of the keys are in different places which confuses me. Additionally, my wife does not have AdBlock on here and has not turned off the mostly annoying extra features of Win10. I also miss my 21" screen.

Yesterday we went to the zoo here. It's not real big and does have limited animals. No elephants, gorillas, hippos, rhinos or baboons among other things. They did replace their lion who died of cancer a couple of years ago, with two others. Today the plan is to drive north to Foley AL, about ten miles. They have a railroad museum there with a rather large O scale model RR layout. There's also a medical museum there that's on our list.

Meanwhile here's a few pictures of the Mississippi Coast Model Railroad Museum in Gulfport MS that we went to Sunday.View attachment 152354

Besides model trains, they have a bunch of Lego stuff, that past Coffee Shop regular Beady would like. One of their layouts.

That's it for now, wife wants to use her laptop for a bit instead of her tablet, something about a bigger screen for a bit.
Everyone have a great day, I'll be back, just don't know when.

Willie: love the L gauge stuff! Kinda makes me want to get a set ... No, wait no time for that sort of playing.
If you were not heading back home soon, I would say - disable that st00pid touch pad. I would always hit the sucker with my wrist and who knows where we would go. Have a Logitech mouse via Bluetooth on my laptop and the touchpad is never enabled.

I cheated on Flo this morning, and drove through Burger King for a breakfast sausage, egg and cheese croisanwich. Boy, are those really good!
Great Jeff. So you are the one she said smelled like BK. No wonder she got my order wrong. I know they say the truth will set you free, but, I think in Flo’s case just leave her a bigger tip then normal!

Never was a fan of Burger King but loved a breakfast sandwich from Hardee’s. The loaded omelet and a monster diet Dr Pepper, heaven!

Good summary Snowman.
I moderated on a motorcycle forum some 15 years ago. Politics found their way in there quite often. The posters could pretty much manage themselves in the discussions of why this was going on or what that issue was about, but when one of the fringe believers got involved, ya better believe what they presume or else the name calling started. Being a mod, I also saw who was hammering the report button too. Consistently the fringe believers. On that forum, the political section was accessed specifically to discuss politics, so those who didn't want to participate didn't have to go there.
So yeah, the emotions flow when politics are brought up. For some, it will break down to tears in the eyes, clenched fists, seething spit and threats of violence. I went through an episode with my sister who lives up in Minneapolis many years ago. The topic was abortion. The topic became more and more heated as I wasn't accepting her perspective of the issue. Eventually she was dropping the F bombs and vile epitaphs. I asked her to set those aside and stay with the facts, but she continued on with the assumptions of my eating preferences and other habits. I had to cut it off there. She called several times over the following weeks to try to convince me through vile comments and more assumptions how her perspective was the only acceptable choice. Finally just quit answering her calls. She resorted to text and emails but I just dumped those without reading. No sense in it because her approach was established.
Long story shortened, politics can be discussed but when the few who just can't understand that everyone has a personal view for a reason, they get their way by shutting down the entire exchange of what could have been a good discussion.
Thanks. I'm sorry for you that you are so estranged from your sister. My own is my best friend, and, but for her, I couldn't tolerate living where I live. Even though I was raised here. I'm certainly the odd man out in this (far left-of-center) town. I have no real friends here--just acquaintances, and all her own friends first...and only, truth be told.

That said, she is also of the complete opposite persuasion on a lot of issues...but we agree that we disagree, and leave it alone where we don't.
Besides...I'm right about everything, and she is just...wrong. :D

Still, I love her. She's the only real, close friend I have in this place, and maybe it's true too the other way 'round, even though she's married, and has two kids now in college. I guess we need each other, despite our differences of opinion. Her kids, and particularly my nephew don't treat her with enough respect.

Now, where did I leave that 2" x 4"? He needs one upside the head, to bring him around.

I hope you two can patch things up at some point down the road. If you can still talk about...something...anything...then it's at least possible.

I have a T-shirt sporting this bit: "Last year, I joined a support group for procrastinators...
...We haven't met yet."

This explains why I have so many unfinished models, I suppose. I'll have to throw up some pics at some point, if only to show I know at least something of what this hobby is actually about.

That's right. Collar with bowtie and all. Snagglepuss was my guy.
I will trust you on the spelling, thus: "Heavens to Murgatttroyddd.

[No reference to you, Troy. Just a coincidence] :D

I can usually accept other people's perspectives on issues as it becomes clear as the facts close in around them, they are too invested in their beliefs to change. Then there are statements that really expose a person's heart and contempt for others. That same sister believes the VA hospitals should be shut down. The wounded soldiers should be on their own to get their continuing help because they knew what they were getting into when they joined the military while at the same time she supports the transgender expenses being paid by the taxpayers. Of course, her income is below tax liability, so she has no skin in that game.

Good morning all, 41° this morning, we were expecting colder as we covered the tomatoes last night...

Chad - that house project is really something. The pouring of the floor reminded me "a little" of some of the parking ramps we poured in Minneapolis.

Willie - looks like your weather is very nice, great when that happens on vacation

I got the old signs off the Crex warehouse buildings, now ready for the new decals, decided to work on the scene around the Wyoming depot for a while...

I got a bunch of ground cover down, the supervisor need a smoke break

Also, got all the lights on, one at each little settlement on the layout, here is the sawmill at night

The shutter speed on this one was an entire second, still not too blurry

Completely agree, and particularly so given that I may be suffering onset of early Parkinson's. But for 2D and 3D printing, I seriously doubt whether this hobby would even be possible for me now. Even with a mouse, there are days when my hands shake so badly I can't find an onscreen button.

A touchpad alone? Laughable. Whoever thought a touchpad alone (Apple) wasn't thinking things through.
IBM, however allowed for all possibilities. Red Eraser/thumbstick on the keypad...touchpad...and mouse.
Ok...maybe not a gamepad, but even those were still connectable using a USB port. As were flightsticks, joysticks, pedals, etc.

Good morning from HOME where it is clear skies, 40f/4.4c degrees, feels like 33/.55 and the high might hit 56/13.3. In other words it is cold. We left Door County for a 3 hour direct ride home. Since retirement direct driving home is a rarity. We stopped in Two Rivers, Wi. for breakfast with 2 of Terry’s cousins. As we left my sister called and asked we pick her up in Milwaukee as her and the Sister in Law were coming over by ferry at 6:15PM. Almost 3 hours at the Milwaukee Art Museum killing time and then over to the ferry landing.

Dinner out with the 4 of us enjoying the Milwaukee Chop House as recommended by the sister’s SIL. Seems the SIL takes the ferry over from Muskegon, Mi. a few times a year. Her daughter lives just west of Milwaukee and she rides the ferry and leaves her car on the Michigan side. We dropped her off on the way home. Home was an 10:30pm arrival and we stayed up till about 2 catching up.

Terry is feeling better after those bee/wasp stings. Today she is 1 year 2 days older then me. Tonight the 3 of us will enjoy a Greek dinner out and then a meet and greet book signing thing. Pete Souza was the White House Photographer for a couple Presidents and he has a new book out. Terry loves his work. Since it’s her birthday and when I found out we’d be home today, I ordered tickets before leaving Door County Wi. I then this morning ordered another ticket for my sister to join us.

I plan to be in the train room today. Weathering and some layout track repairs are the agenda. This will keep me out of harms way as my beloved was getting a bit testy with me over the weekend. I blame the drugs she was on, I was perfect!

Politics, hell they are everywhere nowadays! While I try very hard to ignore them, I can’t. Terry is a news junkie and the TV is on. Though thankfully she can Bluetooth the sound to her hearing aides but I can still see the TV and read the close captioning. I have become very cynical regarding politicians. My feeling is if their lips are moving they are lying. Terry believes the best of everything and that’s were are argument discussions come from. Most of you know I am a proponent of term limits, no individual or public contributions to campaigns and no political tax deductions. But, I have never come out here and named names or even a direct party. But, even while many of us have come close to that imaginary line I cannot remember one time there have been any personal problems between members. It’s a knowledgeable group that know when to back away. Plus Terry will throw a sentence or 2 out there to pull us back in!

Hurricanes, tornados or violent cold. No matter how well prepared you might be, they are all very dangerous.

Wife just informed me that Culver's is cooking burgers and O-rings for us tonight.

Note the lack of cheese curds in our order. We tried them, finally. Not bad. But not as good as the O-rings on our scale.

I've made my word count for today (even if it shows as under by a tad. Anything over 2K/day is my goal. The scale is tied to an imaginary deadline that I can still adjust.

Ya totally agree with TomO, except most in the news media are also moving lips. I am not gonna say they are lying, just speaking the truth as they see it. Funny how they can completely miss the facts and zero in on some tiny part of the big picture.

Wife is a news junkie also, can be watching news on the big screen while scrolling her phone on THE SAME CHANNEL at the same time. Go figure. I watch once in awhile as there is some good stuff on, although I don't right now remember when that was.

When we were in Chicagoland night before last, it was something like 47F. Stopped for fuel and watched almost everybody get outa the truck, then get right back in, then back out with coat or pullover on. Slight breeze and it was cold. Think we will be headed home JIT.

Oh, lord. You really are battling up a steep hill there, my friend.

I couldn't help but notice about eight months back the mourning of the "H-wood" peeps and outpouring of support for the singer and his supermodel wife who lost their "baby" a few months into her pregnancy.

But what "baby?" Had they not wanted the child, it would have been a mere "fetus." Grief for the loss on the one hand, were it a baby, but a mere inconvenience was it the other. And yet the same organism...the same life-to-be (or not-to-be, I guess) in both cases. Based, as best I can tell, even now, on what could be as much as a mere whim.

Outstanding weathering on those hoppers TomO.

Gotta get things goin this morning. I have a septic tank service coming Friday morning for my mandatory septic tank pumping. County requires it every 5 years. Unfunded mandate. I have to dig out the lawn that covers the lid.
Hope this part of the post isn't considered political. It's only about my septic tank.

If answering questions about "why" I've done that is considered overly political to the point I couldn't answer the question, then I would argue things are just far too politicized these days.
That was an excellent post. Not for nothing, we live in a diversified country, (world). Differences result from many factors, most of which have do do with where you live, your individual background, and how you approach life. My take, is that this forum, is generally conservative, with a smattering of liberals. Personally, I'm rather conservative up to a point, but I don't believe in blind adherence to any dogma. And I feel that economically, I have been hurt by the policies of both major political groups, so I'm skeptical of all of them.

The bottom line, is that when you get to know someone, either in person or electronically, you become more tolerant of that person's characteristics. When someone only associates with like minded people, they tend to dismiss the rest as deplorable, and the outlook becomes "My way or the Highway".

What is in that tank is pretty much what politics is ... Isn't it?

Hmmm, every 5 years? Geesh, we have a 2500 gallon one and THAT would be spendy. So the county has a sh.t monitor? What a job.
