The siren on the DDA40x is interesting. Not that I would want to model it. Prolly pretty loud to overcome the noise of the loco itself.
I noticed the picture of the several DD40 units MUd together. I wish I hadn't seen that.
I think if you get several DD40's with sound, MUd together, you'll probably have to invest in a set of ear plugs, or have at least one with the sound permanently switched off. :D

Good morning, all! Well, the sun is out, but for how long? We received a half inch of rain over night, and a 50/50 chance of rain today.
I've been busy with real world stuff and have made no progress on the Keystone Mill, hopefully some will be made today.

Guy - I would love to live in Telegraph Cove. It's great that your son is getting a house with babysitters right across the street.
Troy - The only coins I would save would probably be wooden nickels, maybe a few lead pennies.
Willie - The food trailers should make a nice scene. Don't think I've seen them till now.
Patrick - Hope for banishment is a short one, and without too much discomfort.
Jaz - Next year just set aside some of the crop for the varmints, you know share, share alike.

STAY SAFE

Hey I’m willing to share,it is them that are now eating my cucumbers as well, and it’s rats,I am digging out the poison, hope the goddam ct does not eat a dead rat!

Favorite Western, impossible for me to choose.
True Grit, Unforgiven, whichever one I'm watching and so many more. I love westerns!

Favorite Bass players, easy, Geezer Butler.
My dad loved westerns,so I watched tons as kid John Wayne, with the walk, the original 7,American characters, the Alamo, cowboys versus Indians, although finding out about the smallpox blankets was a bit sick, but one man and his gun was a common theme, dad liked the one man does good, survives,Butch Cassidy and Sundance was later but I love the bicycle scene, last stands, Gunfight at the OK coral, Doc Holliday, Dances with wolves,American war hero’s doing cowboys was fun,but them standing on objects to make them look taller was an eye opener, Doris Days dancing version very tongue in cheek, many of the same bad guys getting theirs, the jail fights, the comedy westerns, hell even the sci fi westerns, I love them, drunk Lee Marvin, yep gotta luv a western

One other concern I have about EV's is how much of the battery energy is use up for cabin heat in the winter months. Lots of single digit weather here in the northeast with the car heater on most of the time. How much energy does that consume?
George
They are very popular in Sweden and claim to have saved lives, up to 2 days supposedly. I want a cybertruck with the built in solar panels that limps 15 miles a day lol.Great for the tart who gets stuck in the dessert, water not withstanding

FYI we love out Tesla 3 so much with the order for the cybertruck still in Layla land we have orderEd a y, we keep the 3 but when the cybertruck arrives one of them will be traded…..I want a 13 am plug for the power tools, when the cybertruck comes out I want the drive on electric go cart or else I will sulk and sulk…….

So you mean the taxpayer's money Ken? I know the word taxpayer might have this post deleted but I'm going to take that chance. I know last year I said, my wife had been taking Hydroxychlorquine for years and that got deleted. You mean taxpayers money invested in EV's that may go the way of steam cars when something like nitrogen powered cars take over?
George
Hydrogen should work, sounds simple, but they fail to get it working well, plus you have to buy in the fuel to seperate the water……solar you can have your own panels. We are also just buying woodburners, use the solar mid summer to dry the wood from the arboretum to power the woodburners winter, hopefully meaning when we hit pension age we can cope with the energy bills, now in the US I believe some states have banned water collection off the roof! if I dig a well the water company screws me over….so I need a sneaky water reservoir……ah the house was built with one BUT you need to treat the grey water if you want to drink it…gulps nervously, twice when inspecting have found a dead rat…..eeeeek. hell they will be taxing air soon.

(Battery) EVs aren't the future. They are the stepping stone to whatever the future is (I am guessing some sort of hydrogen). BEVs don't scale.
Whilst batteries continue to improve and have a 300 plus mile range, they can be the future, albeit the kit used could be mined by kids and stunts their growth or kills them, but do does gold, diamonds, and most metals. IF THEY GET THE BIG LORRIES long distances I think there is no issues,if they get a body she’ll that acts like a solar panel, not that will be a big improment

God afternoon. Checking in quickly. My daughter and grand daughter just took off to the grocery store to get something that they forgot to get the other day. Nice to see them again. We did some sightseeing but now are getting ready to head to Whitefish, just north of Kalispell for the surgery on Wednesday. Hate to board my dogs, but they'll get over it.

Hughie
- Like the photos. Nice work

Jaz -
I had been watching a lot of train videos and have watched a lot from GB. A lot of railroad history there.

Curt
- Ran across one of your videos from your old layout. My grand daughter loved it.

Willie - Keep those photos coming. Look forward to them.

Dave - Like your photo. Always liked seeing your layout.

McLeod - After seeing your post with the line of charging stations I did a little searching and found that there are no charging stations near me. There was one at a tourist ranch, but the government stopped paying him so it is no longer in service. The closest is in Kalispell, 90 miles away. A trip to visit my son or daughter is well beyone the range of almost all EV's on the market. I wouldn't want one any way. Too expensive, no place to charge them locally and I miss the sound of a V-8 with a nice dual exhaust system.

Here are a few photos from the archives again.

They're back, Later

Speaking of Covid:
  • Brandon declared the Pandemic over. CNBC was upset he didn't defer to the WHO, the un Affiliate that the News media follows.
  • My Pulmonary Doctor's office called, cancelling tomorrow's appointment. The Doctor tested positive...
  • There is much talk about the new and improved Covid booster...supposedly available now. Has anyone had the shot yet? Those with no intention of getting the booster, please refrain from commenting, as while you are within your rights to abstain, the wife is immune compromised and I am doing Physical Therapy three times a week, and exposed to all sorts of people, I normally don't come in contact with. Risk wise, we are both better off getting it, than not. Same with the Flu Shot.
Chet:
  • You really miss your model railroad...I enjoy seeing the photos, it was very well done.
  • You and Dave (Log and saw) make valid points about the lack of any facilities for EVs outside of Urban areas, and emphasise the lack of demand for these facilities and vehicles.
We do live in different worlds. If I was younger, I would definitely be on board for Solar, and an EV. Solar, if done right, would cut my utility bills. Of course, my tax assessment would go up along with my taxes. In Jersey, No good deed goes unpunished. Most EV users around here, use home chargers, and have a gas car, truck or SUV for Road Trips.
My comments are directed at the sorry state of American news media.
Willie: First purpose of American News Media is to promote the Parent Movie Studio's enterprise. Secondly, to cause divisiveness and dysfunction to create a buzz, which in turn causes interest to rise and advertising revenue to increase.

Tonight, ESPN Monday Night Football is being carried on all of the Disney platforms, ABC (over the air), ESPN (Cable), ESPN+ and Hulu (Streaming), in order to maximize coverage of the game, normally carried on cable. Great if you are a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles or Minnesota... Wonder how many "special" human interest stories and special groups they will pander to.

Tonight's NBC Nightly News, after being mostly behaved during the course of the pomp and circumstance surrounding HRH Queen Elizabeth's death and funeral, focused on the Harry and Meghan Markle Soap Opera. Seriously, who cares about those two wealthy beyond imagination cry babies? There are many untold stories concerning news we should be concerned with but aren't due to lack of coverage.
People living in cities cannot understand the concerns rural people have over this issue, however remember pretty much everything we eat and building materials, and much of our recreational opportunities come from outside the cities.
Dave: At the risk of being de-platformed again, I have to agree with you. But the other side of that is that rural people cannot comprehend how different life is in Urban areas. Urban people pay significantly higher taxes with less return, while rural areas get more government assistance in relation to the taxes they pay...In either case, it comes down to the cost of living our chosen lives, even when they seem to be caused by fate.

Since, I suddenly have the day free, I need to get a small can of mineral spirits, and several new paint brushes. Also need some brick molding, preferably a Trex type, that doesn't wick water on the weather side of the house. This is assuming I can move around tomorrow or get out of bed.

Stopped at Trader Joes for groceries again today...Love to shop there...love the Chicken salad they sell.

Covid has been blamed for gunshot deaths in NYC...if it's Covid, it's not a crime... In the case of HRH, I guess old age. No one lives forever.
I didn't go near the city on the way back from Myrtle Beach. I took the Garden State Parkway to the Tappan Zee bridge home. I go nowhere near the city anymore. It's become a dangerous place. My general practice doctor and my eye doctor both moved out of NY two months ago. They both moved to FL. I have two new doctors now. I asked my wife about moving yesterday. She said I can watch TV here as well as there. She doesn't understand the money part of anything anymore. Taxes, fuel oil etc. I handle all that now.
George

Our doctors' office has called asking my wife and I to schedule the new booster shot. We have yet to do so, but I'm hoping to call later today.

Yes. I had mine just over a week ago. This was booster #2 for me. (four shots total)

It's 50% the old variant, and 50% the BA-4 and BA-5 strains mixed together.

I had the normal side effects. I felt like crap for a day after. Tired, run-down. Not as bad as original dose #2. About the same as first booster.

I *think* I've fought off the Coof twice before. Both times after some major exposure (convention attendance). And, about 8 weeks ago, as part of my annual wellness screening, the lab ran anti-body tests. I was over 1,000 strong on that. Where my wife with only 2 shots, was running about 300 on the same.

BUT, everyone is different. And a recent exposure may have increased my antibody count.

In my experience with the second shot, there were no effects that would make me choose differently.

well, howdy there internet peeps, and those hanging out at author conventions

It's Troy again

Not much to report, Author convention travel day was only lightly attended. Starting tomorrow, about 400 of my favorite author friends will be here with me. We're probably only about 50-70 strong as of this morning. But the main event doesn't kick off until tomorrow, and runs through Saturday. Travel home on Sunday.

Had dinner with M.L. Buchman - the link goes to his military thriller books. I have not read them, but for the flyboys here, they are political thrillers centered around aviation. If I read that genre, they do sound interesting. If inclined to military romance, he has a series for that too.

The other authors I hung out with were predominantly romance authors. If anyone needs referrals, let me know and I'll start collecting biz cards for you.

Until then, if you need me, I'll be at Tradewinds on St. Pete Beach Florida. There is a tiki bar, where we gather most evenings. This may be my new favorite drink: Mango Tango Margarita

Got to thinking about this. What are they gonna do with the small town dealers? The one in Libby does not have EV ... yet ( as far as I know ), but does gas/diesel and the pro series. I would think that the financial burden would be too much for them - something gotta give. This place is always busy, try and get your vehicle in and done within a week!
