A bit of info on vax vs infection... I've been getting up to date on some of the medical stuff.

Via Dr. (nurse phd) John Campbell that we've talked about before. In one of his latest Utubez vids, he's looking at the new Omicron booster and dives into opinions given by Dr. Paul Offit about why C-vaxes don't stop transmission. One key factor is the transmission time.

eg: Measles/rubella takes about two weeks from exposure for the patient to begin symptoms and shedding the virus. There is plenty of time for a vaxed person's immune symptom to fire up immune cells to knock it out while it tries to infect the body.

The cooff, on the other hand, is in a 2-3 day window. You might be totally prevented from getting the infection, or, as is the case for many, you might get an infection that last only a day or two as your body fights it off.

The downside seems to be the BA4 or 5 variants have a different spike protein on the virus than the original. That vax worked on The variants through Delta pretty well. But the virus got real sneaky, and peeled off of the original strain to make BA4 Omicron and BA 5 Omicron the return!...

The jury is still out as to whether jumping the gun on human trials for BA variants (one was done on BA1 in the UK), and relying only on animal studies for the new boosters was a good thing or not. I see the reason to do so as it's the only way to get ahead of the virus mutations. They keep mutating while we're studying vax to two versions before.

EDIT: this vid popped up while I was watching the other one. Dr. Paul Offit MD (sits on the FDA advisory committee for the Cooff-vaxes)... the first 10 min cover what I said above. It's an hour-long vid. watching now.

Now back to your regularly scheduled episode of What is Willie Cooking tonight?

I never did lose taste or smell. The only bad effects for me have been fatigue and brain fog, and both of those were with the most recent bout I had a couple months ago. The fatigue is better, but I still have a bit of brain fog... I can't come up with words... mostly when I'm tired. And I will completely lose my train of thought mid-sentence... Hopefully this improves with time, lol!

Brain fog and losing train of thought are not necessarily due to Covid. It's been happening to me since I was 62 and most of my peers as well! I haven't had Covid!

Patrick, I hope you are feeling better.
I recently got over covid. It was like a bad cold for a couple of days. Congestion and fatigue lingered for much longer. It took five days to finally test negative.
I'm glad you got your vaccines and boosters.

Jaz, some of the overtime was paid, some was favors for friends and family. I don't like overtime, paid or not. My stamina is not what it used to be. My patience wears thin as my energy level drops. My health can suffer if I overexert myself.
I don't mind over runs when helping my mom. My mom is 90 and I don't like for her to wait for another day for anything.
All other over runs tend to $%#* me off! :) Many times overtime is on me. I usually charge a flat fee for my services, but it depends on the job.
I think that painting is a depiction of the Magyar as they journeyed from the steppes of Urals to the Carpathian basin. I will ask my wife to be sure.

Checking in quickly. Been busier than usual for the past few days and will be busy again. My son and his wife (and grandson) really enjoyed their visit. The were happy to get away from Bozangeles for a few days. We stayed in the area exploring except for the trip to Glacier Park. Not as close as Yellowstone was, but a little over 2 hours to the west entrance. I only have one spare bedroom so my son and his wife got the queen size air mattress and the little one got to us a pint size sleeping bag. He thought it was quite a deal. They headed back Thursday morning and I followed them to Kalispell to take care of the pre op things for the surgery next Wednesday. Here's the little guy, Malakai.

My daughter is currently on her way up with my grand daughter to help me for the first few days after the surgery. We have a room reserved at a hotel close to the hospital and she will be taking me home. Been through this crap before when I got the right shoulder replaced. I am listed as an organ donor but I seem to be wearing everything out.

Louis - Don't feel bad about missing a few days and trying to catch up. You're not alone.

Dave - Great Photo. Keep them coming.

Willie - As usual, you have excellent photos. There are so many new things coming out in the hobby just since I had to tear out my layout. Love the food trucks. I see Oxford has introduced a few new vehicles.

McLeod - Congrats on the new place. I'm sure your son will enjoy it. In some areas the housing prices are coming down but the interest rates are going up. Found a house for my son up here but after he figured out what the mortgage payment was going to be, he decided to wait. He could have afforded it but didn't want to be on a hamburger helper diet. Right at the very top for him.

Here are a few more photos from the archives.

Good afternoon, all! A few showers, nothing too bad.

I made some nice gains on the Keystone Mill. Still some trim and a platform to go. I also want to weather the roof a little, take some of the "new" from it.

Good morning, and for those to whom it still matters, Happy Friday!

It was a bit chilly this morning, 44° at the Manasquan River Reservoir, Currently 67° and Sunny with nothing but Blue Skies. Beautiful day, for sure.

Finished the first session of this round of Physical Therapy. As usual, I learned something about myself I didn't know. My Balance is bad, and there isn't a whole lot of muscle tone in my right leg. The ankles toe in which explains why I tend to trip on my own feet. These problems have been around for a very long time, but no one ever took the time to look at the big picture...which, considering that all muscle and joint groups of the body naturally interact. But Medicine is myopic, and single focused.

Patrick's comments about his positive Covid test, raises the following hypothetical question, Given, that these tests have never existed before being developed for the specific Covid Viruses, wonder if they would have tested positive for the common cold or flu had they been around prior to C-19? Might explain why so many Vaxed and Boosted people still test positive, when suffering from symptoms, that pre covid would have been diagnosed as common cold, flu or virus. Then again, maybe not.

Especially interesting when a group of scientists, I think in Greenland, expressed concern that the melting glaciers are exposing dormant virus from the likes of the Spanish Influenza to the atmosphere after years "in the "Freezer".

I have a package to open, from MB Klein, should have a couple of 60' container cars, for my port area service.

Toronto's Blue Jays, lost last night, so the Baltimore Orioles go into their 3 game series with the Jays in Toronto with one final opportunity to gain major ground in the Wild Card Race. I honestly never considered the possibility that the Orioles would still be playing meaningful games this late in September. Go O's.

I haven't really participated in the Music discussion, because music was more or less something playing in the background, since I graduated High School. I worked with a group of people who's primary interests were limited to either what they now call "Classic Country", or "Pop", (Sinatra, etc.). My personal interests were in contemporary 60s Jazz bands, the fusions featured in Playboy Magazine for instance. The British bands and Motown, did little for me, and while I Knew contemporary 70s groups, I never really got deeply into them, even when I went to concerts.

I plan on redirecting my efforts, this weekend, to at home PT exercise, clearing the garage of stuff we don't use or need, and the layout. The wife's had a bad week, so she needs not only a break, but some space. Her mother, like a volcano, has suddenly errupted with the gimmie wants, meaning numerous trips to the doctor, Physical Therapy, and Possible surgery(s), all for the unstated goal of justifying prescriptions for ☠️☠️ opoids. :(:eek::confused:o_O:rolleyes:. Not for nothing, I have never met a more selfish, uncaring person, in my life. She's right up there in my Four Most Evil People I have Ever Encountered list.

I think, I'm going to ask second son to invite her down to his place, in North Carolina, for a while, to give her a badly needed change of scenery.

Have to go now, Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Boris: balance pretty much is training. For instance when ya get up in the am, stand upright to put pants on, at first you might need to steady yourself. After that you can work on putting shoes on standing on one leg. I didn't say socks as I am not there yet and don't want to lead you astray. Next when waiting in line or the like, raise one foot up and see how long you can stand it, then raise the other up. When you can raise BOTH feet up, we will need to talk about astra projection??? Stand on tippy-toes and do the above again. The tippy-toes stuff for me is a game changer as it took me awhile to get'r done. Next find somewhere there is a long 2x4 and walk on that trying not to put your arms out for help. Switch to a 2x2 and do again. None of the above takes much time to do, just do it every time you think about it and not have it be a scheduled thingie. The leg raises in a grocery line get you funny looks, although I have seen some of those lookers doing the same thing days or weeks afterwards. We will get to the knee bends and squat thrusts later.

And I forgot. My doc now has me walking heel to toe with a gallon jug of water swinging back and forth in front of me. You will be amazed what 7.8Lbs can do to your balance ... Make sure the cap is on tight! I am doing it with the 2x2 on the floor. End result for me is that I now can stand for longer periods of time without dying and I don't worry about up/down the stairs as much as I used to.

Well, went upstairs and took apart a recliner and brought it downstairs. Tired me out, but got it. A lot more comfortable than the office chair I use for my hobby desk.

Watching "High Plains Drifter" on whatever channel I channel surfed to. Wife hates it when I can see about 2 minutes of most Clint Eastwood movies and know what it is without the channel guide.
