Morning all,

Banished to the dungeon like a common serf. Tested positive for covid, explains the cough and fever and why I wasn't feeling quite so well coming home last night. So far the fever is below 101° but I tend to run low on temperature anyway. Still out until at least Tuesday, and I have been vax'ed and boosted. I'm not sure I want to take the paxlovid (sp?) to weaken this. Every case I personally know that did it had a rebound case.

Took 2.5 years to catch it. So far wife is negative.

I've been in the same situation. Banished to the basement for a week. But it did keep the wife and kid from getting it.

Actually, getting banished to the basement wasn't all bad, thats where the trains are! Plus a large tv, internet and my Lazy-boy.

Well,

Basement is where the trains are, there are 2 bedrooms down here, but only one with a bed, kept made for emergencies. There is an older 32" lcd TV with a roku, so I have TV. Bathroom downstairs as well. Just have to have snacks and drinks passed down. It is a finished space, just not a lot of other furniture. Could be worse...right now it feels like a bad cold.

I know the shots won't keep Covid away, just keep the worst part of it from occurring.

Morning from cold California where it is 57 degrees (almost winter time temps-lol).
We are looking for a high near 81 degrees as was yesterday as well.
Sunny. Warm and breezy , high near 81°F .

Pollen level is rated "medium".

FLO - Another cup of java, please - oh, and a handful of bacon, make that two handfuls, and I will share some with the penniless writer over in the corner - thank you!

I really have nothing intelligent to say this morning - finally did get a decent? nights sleep -- only had to make 6 trips including the wake up one.

I have many pennys In a coin jar if that would help you out Troy! It sounds like a good idea all kidding aside. Late start again this morning, up at 8:05 and actually I slept ok last night so no clue why the sleeping late. I use the penny method for additional weight for rolling stock!

We have my sister walking 1/2 mile with no issue, sitting for around 10 minutes and walking back. Walking with her Terry says reminds her of my rehabs after surgery and the stroke. Slow walking to start was great for me. 3 times a day so far has been good for her

Today, if the grass dries out this morning, I will cut it. Terry has an EN&T appointment at 2:40 on the eastside of Madison and my sister has an appointment with the Neurologist a few minutes later in the same complex. Later tonight at 7:30, the UW Volleyball will try to set an attendance record for Womens Volleyball at the Kohl Center that can hold almost 18,000 for hockey and Basketball. Almost 21,000 saw Paul MCCarthy on tour before Covid there. Normally they play at the “historic” Fieldhouse on campus that holds 7500. UW Volleyball has lead the nation in attendance the last 5-6 years from what I have read. Our season tickets at the Fieldhouse transferred to some decent seats at the Kohl Center. The Kohl Center was donated by our former US Senator and former President and CEO of the Kohl’s department stores, something his daddy started. Just his money $25 million out of pocket to build something in the late 90’s that would cost 10-20 times that now a days. Great deal for the UW and a really nice facility.

I will spend some time waiting for the grass to dry at the weathering bench. Enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Clear and 65° here in the boonies of North Central Texas. Supposed to return to the 90's today for at least the next ten days.

Once again nothing significant about the grocery trek yesterday. most prices have stabilized except chicken is still going up. Not as many veggies on sale right now. Gasoline seems to be creeping up just a bit. It must have worn me out as I laid down to take a nap without an alarm and slept for over an hour. Quite unusual for me to go over 30 minutes. That made lunch much later and no real time for outdoor stuff before heading to the train shed.

Thanks for the comments and reactions to the booty photos posted yesterday; Karl, Guy, Smudge, James, Joe, Sherrel, Chad, Steve J, Tom O, Dave B, Hughie, Mikey, Curt, Patrick, Gary, Rick, Tom.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I couldn't wait to start one of the food trailers that I bought Tuesday.

I'm doing the BBQ one first.

I am putting figures in this one, probably the other one later as well.

If you have seen one of these in person, you know that the heads are always above the windows like in this shot. Customers are looking up from under the canopy to see them.

Signs are readable under magnification.

Here it is on it's proposed site on the other side of the tracks from Farmco, next to Cooter's Liquor.

Patrick - Even 7 years after retiring, I still get up at the approximate same time of 4:30 without an alarm. My internal system just won't let it go. I actually don't mind since it is quite quiet around our house. For a while every summer I get into the pool after getting up and watch stars and meteors and other celestial stuff.
Best of luck with the Covid. I have avoided it for 2 1/2 years now.
Dave B - I am always befuddled when I have a drooping coupler or something similar on a freight car. How the heck does it happen? All of my freight cars go through a rigorous inspection before landing on the layout.
My wife was/is apprehensive about me retiring at 63 and waiting 3 years before tapping into SS. I pointed out that with some of the extra time I had, I could self-manage our retirement accounts and ended doubling their value prior to covid. I did have some help from 4 years of pro-business policies in the White House.
Guy - Telegraph Cove would make a great scene on any layout.
Tom O - The Walther's part # for the figures is 949-6034. It implies 30 figures, but they are counting the one in row 4, second from left, of the baby in mama's lap as two figures. Picture posted yesterday.

Jaz - Sorry to read about the harvest or lack of it.

Everybody have a wonderful Friday and an awesome weekend.

Good morning!

Busy day yesterday. I made a deal to buy the house right across the street from the one I'm living in.
This house:
NewHouse_09-16-2022.JPG
This house has been for sale over the past 5 months, but, I considered the asking price to high at 340k. Yesterday, I offered 285k, and the offer was accepted.
I'm purchasing this house for my son and his young family. It's not a gift, though. My son will pay for it over time. He just didn't have the down payment to make the purchase on his own.

Plus, I was in the basement making changes to my layout. I added one more full holding spur and two more blocks. Work was happening to correct the control station when the neighbour came over to make the house deal.
Here's a photo of current goings-on:
LayoutReno_09-16-2022.JPG

I'll finish the work on the adjusted track and control station today.

Well, I'm not going to stay in here, because I'm fairly hyped. Think I'll go for a walk in the forest with the dog, and get myself calmned down.
I'm very happy my G-kids will be my new neighbours.

Have a wonderful day!

Well, howdy there internet peeps and rejoicing railfans...

It's Troy again.

Got through my day of napping on Tues, and wife rewarded me with a trip to the Mexican joint for a bowl of queso dip. the burrito was meh, but the wife had a margarita. I think that's the real reason we went there. Wednesday is cheap margarita day.

Got a few words worded today. Got the SS Ralph giant corgi inflatable sea scout blimp heading out on a recon. Since this is a murder mystery, any clue what they'll discover?

I did get a little work done on the gaming minis: First snipped the skeletons off their bases

View attachment 151826
While at HobLob yesterday, I picked up a bottle of Realistic Resin Water. Was $11 for 8 fl oz. LHS has the Woodland Scenics for $27 per 16 fl oz. figured the gaming models were a good trial run to see if it's any better.

Here's the before pour:

The undead hordes are emerging from?

their pool of enchanted summoning magic, ready to do battle against the orcs and dwarves...

Here's the first pour: View attachment 151828
Added a bit too much ink to the resin. I'll do a second pour of clear later this evening. Need to build one more pond base. I've got enough minis left that need to be trimmed off their bases to fill it up.

OK, back to writing while I wait on the resin to dry.
Any further progress with the resin water?

curious if you are experimenting with other dye colors?

No other colors. For the gaming stuff, I wanted "Magic" ooze.

Here's the end result:
Screen Shot 2022-09-16 at 10.51.52 AM.png

I like the product. It mixed well with the ink (in background of photo).

The base on the left wasn't sealed well enough and the first pour leaked and was absorbed by the basing material (Sculptamold). I resealed around the edges with brush on matte medium. then did a second, non coloured pour. What you see is mostly the paint on the bottom of the pond that I applied before the first pour.

The base on the right was sealed well. First pour with the ink was good, but I used too much ink when I compare the effect to the left base. I added a second pour of CLEAR resin (same bottle - no ink added) on top of the dried purple.

Hope that helps.

Guy, that is so cool you can help. Having the grandkids nearby is absolutely wonderful. Congrats

Good morning, and for those to whom it still matters, Happy Friday!

It was a bit chilly this morning, 44° at the Manasquan River Reservoir, Currently 67° and Sunny with nothing but Blue Skies. Beautiful day, for sure.

Finished the first session of this round of Physical Therapy. As usual, I learned something about myself I didn't know. My Balance is bad, and there isn't a whole lot of muscle tone in my right leg. The ankles toe in which explains why I tend to trip on my own feet. These problems have been around for a very long time, but no one ever took the time to look at the big picture...which, considering that all muscle and joint groups of the body naturally interact. But Medicine is myopic, and single focused.

Patrick's comments about his positive Covid test, raises the following hypothetical question, Given, that these tests have never existed before being developed for the specific Covid Viruses, wonder if they would have tested positive for the common cold or flu had they been around prior to C-19? Might explain why so many Vaxed and Boosted people still test positive, when suffering from symptoms, that pre covid would have been diagnosed as common cold, flu or virus. Then again, maybe not.

Especially interesting when a group of scientists, I think in Greenland, expressed concern that the melting glaciers are exposing dormant virus from the likes of the Spanish Influenza to the atmosphere after years "in the "Freezer".

I have a package to open, from MB Klein, should have a couple of 60' container cars, for my port area service.

Toronto's Blue Jays, lost last night, so the Baltimore Orioles go into their 3 game series with the Jays in Toronto with one final opportunity to gain major ground in the Wild Card Race. I honestly never considered the possibility that the Orioles would still be playing meaningful games this late in September. Go O's.

I haven't really participated in the Music discussion, because music was more or less something playing in the background, since I graduated High School. I worked with a group of people who's primary interests were limited to either what they now call "Classic Country", or "Pop", (Sinatra, etc.). My personal interests were in contemporary 60s Jazz bands, the fusions featured in Playboy Magazine for instance. The British bands and Motown, did little for me, and while I Knew contemporary 70s groups, I never really got deeply into them, even when I went to concerts.

I plan on redirecting my efforts, this weekend, to at home PT exercise, clearing the garage of stuff we don't use or need, and the layout. The wife's had a bad week, so she needs not only a break, but some space. Her mother, like a volcano, has suddenly errupted with the gimmie wants, meaning numerous trips to the doctor, Physical Therapy, and Possible surgery(s), all for the unstated goal of justifying prescriptions for ☠️☠️ opoids. :(:eek::confused:o_O:rolleyes:. Not for nothing, I have never met a more selfish, uncaring person, in my life. She's right up there in my Four Most Evil People I have Ever Encountered list.

I think, I'm going to ask second son to invite her down to his place, in North Carolina, for a while, to give her a badly needed change of scenery.

Have to go now, Hope everyone has a great weekend.

OB Ken - No need for apologies regarding the illegal immigrant situation. Try to realize what we are going through here in Texas, and go to the ballot box in November.
Jaz - Sorry to read about the harvest or lack of it.

Everybody have a wonderful Friday and an awesome weekend.
Thanks Willie for the number of the sitting passengers.

I just ordered via what was a crabby LHS owner! Seems he thinks he has plenty of Little People in HO in stock. But did he have them under this part number? He said no! He did ask if he went through all his sets of LP sitting would I look at taking them. Being the ass I now felt like, sure if the price is right. The past few months I started stopping at the figure racks to check them out since I decided to populate the layout. No way am I cutting legs off the Miniprints.com stuff I have started to buy more of. 1st time in 8 years stopping at the LHS did anyone act like that, but we all have our days! He orders from Walthers every Tuesday and usually has it on Friday. I will stop there Monday to see what they pull for me.

Good morning, all! Well, the sun is out, but for how long? We received a half inch of rain over night, and a 50/50 chance of rain today.
I've been busy with real world stuff and have made no progress on the Keystone Mill, hopefully some will be made today.

Guy - I would love to live in Telegraph Cove. It's great that your son is getting a house with babysitters right across the street.
Troy - The only coins I would save would probably be wooden nickels, maybe a few lead pennies.
Willie - The food trailers should make a nice scene. Don't think I've seen them till now.
Patrick - Hope for banishment is a short one, and without too much discomfort.
Jaz - Next year just set aside some of the crop for the varmints, you know share, share alike.

STAY SAFE

LATER

Afternoon All,

Started out with chores then sat down with the signaling paperwork. Thankfully I was smart enough orginally to do a line drawing of where everything goes :). As they say a picture is worth 1,000 words. I ordered wire (6 colors) last night to be able to extend the existing wiring. Today I ordered some corner protectors for the fascia. I keep hitting my elbow and cutting it.

Patrick- I hope you get over your case quickly.

Dave- Nice layout shot.

Guy- That was really nice of you.

Troy- I had a problem visualizing what you were doing, but now I understand.

Willie- Nice job on the 1st trailer.

Joe- I hope things get better with your MIL. My Mom never interfered unless asked and Kathy's Mom & Dad passed when she was in high school. You're right, it's hilarious to see the states and cities that are the biggest proponents of unfettered immigration get a tiny taste of what the southern and western states have been dealing with for decades and then show outrage😂.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Boris: I understand it is possible to improve your balance. I have been working on mine and I think it is true. What I have been doing for practice and verification is, when getting out of the shower and towel drying, to do each foot while balancing on the other foot and not contacting anything else with hands/body.

Right off I noticed I could pretty easily dry my left foot and toes without touching the wall, about 30 seconds, but it takes me way more concentration to dry my right foot and toes.

I think my balance has improved while working on this as now I can usually comfortably dry my feet and individual toes while only balancing on the other foot.

Too bad about the mother in law.

Re: balance...

The original Wii games had a "board" you could stand on, and one of the "games" included a balance improvement/monitoring thing... If I remember correctly, you stood on this board and did some not-very-strenuous things, like stand still with your eyes closed, and it would sense your weight shifting. The more it shifts, the lass balance you have.

IN addition to ski jumping on the same board!
