And my Labor Day Weekend is continuing to be an ongoing reminder of losing my wife.
In addition to the movie recommendtation about the man losing his wife, the police just showed up with a summons for a bill she hasn't paid. I had to provide the cop with a copy of the death certificate.

Terry: Unusual to sent the cops, unless someone is suing in small claims court.

Got the limbs gone, 3rd load of laundry done and still have one more to go. For my next trick, I am starting lunch (BT sandwiches). I usually bake the bacon on a sheet pan as I can do more with less mess. Some parchment paper on the sheet makes for easy cleanup.👍

Good morning, all! A rather cool morning, 76, but very welcome. Yesterday we got hit with 3 and a half inches of rain in about 45 minutes. As you would expect, some street flooding.

James - Our prayers are with you.
Christian - At this rate there will be no log on names left. You will have used them all! :)
Willie - I like to use pecan, however not completely. I use 75% oak with 25% pecan, same when using mesquite. To me, both pecan and mesquite can really overpower the taste of the meat. The exception might be sausage.

Continuing work on the Keystone Mill. Let me just say that it is the first and last Rslaser kit I will purchase. Might be better in HO, but in N scale, not so much.

STAY SAFE

I'm technically time traveling but just watched a good video on making a waterfall for a gaming table. Thought I'd share. Definitely need to put one on my layout but haven't been sure I wanted the hassle.

Luke makes it look almost easy. Almost.

Water, love it, love making it playing with ripples, the movement the reflections

I want to thank everyone for their condolences and prayers as it is greatly appreciated. It's 1:30 am and I am unable to sleep so I thought to pop in here.

My heart aches for my nephews. It was a very hard thing for me to do...... to tell them that their mother is gone and passed away. One of the most difficult things I had to do in my life. I have not been able to grieve yet as there is so much to do to keep things going and together. The amount of people my sister knew is overwhelming. She was a school teacher for 30 plus years. To go so earlly at 51 years is just nuts I cannot get myself to believe this has happened yet. All the arrangements for the funeral is made for next Friday and Saturday. We are working on setting up a scholarship fund in her name instead of flowers etc... All those students she taught over the years and parents she knew....unreal!

As her big brother it does make me proud of who she was but I am still at a lost as my nephews are. Mom and dad are really having a tough time. Ya know how it is with daddy's little girl....

Anyways I will try to come back later when I have sleepless nites like this. Still trying to make sense of all this.
Oh hell I missed this my condolences, sorry mostly afk for sone time I came in my garage caught my foot in a rug tried to do a cartwheel, and dumped myself back in hospital ambulance,a and e doctors, even ortho doctor a ll convinced I had re did the dislocated knee, told me I had fractured the thigh bone inside the knee, THEN the ortho got the mri after he saw the X-ray and finally some good news the break was from last year, no one mentioned this last year and apparently it may have cracked snappe d at the time and only seperated enough now for X-ray to see it, but old not new, the knee when asked I said last year pain 10, this year ummm 3, 4 maybe, sent home have a fractures clinic appointment but only because these injuries under their remit not nee break but more ripped muscle I’d likely, pain is not constant clearly positional one minute I can almost walk on it, then it moves and I’m like excuse me xuck that!, so after one year finally getting back to normal and a hid cup, hopeful as pain has reduced fast that is just a minor rip which nee nerve damage just needs to decay so it is less painful and I can quickly resume getting back to normal, not happy bunny. And poor husband saw what happened knows it is not my fault, but he is onc E again dumped with my work as well as his paid work, sense of humour from either o f us is not not in generous amounts at moment, although we are not sniping at each other is what it is, not tried but think I can drive, and in a shop with a supplied wheel. Chair i whizzed around so fast it was funnnn…..well I had a lot of practise previously, and I had rubber grippy shoes so two emercry breaks before hitting other shoppers who moved without looking into my break neck speed allowed me to do stopppp on a penny 😅 al most….want rid of the crutche s asap can’t stand being stuck with them again, hospital appointment only days away, crossed fingers…or fingers crossed lol.

sorry if I missed anything important, and still won’t be in lots at present, hope everyone is coping in these tough times.

Terry Just how does he manage to nuke his account Seems like he's done that 5 or 6 times
Well he removed account at least once, apparently password another, had trouble with pc, could not log in, did not ask technical help opened a nother account, I think you see the pattern, but at least he holds his hands up and owns it, so we chuckle and move on,luckily this group is patient and has a sense of humour…. Talking of which…

Hi Christian, onwards and upwards.

dissape
Good afternoon. Been absent again for a few days. I did get a hold of the surgeons office and have rescheduled the operation for Sept 21. I have to make a few other appointments and a pre-surgery Covid test. What a bunch of crap. Guess I'll be typing one handed. That doesn't sound good as I have a hard time with two hands.

Went over to visit a friend in Idaho yesterday and to meet the dachshund that I may adopt in the future. Still warm but the future forecast is finally showing some reasonable temps next week.

I noticed a few posts about the price of auto parts, especially the luxury vehicles, BMW, Mercedes, Land Rover and such. I was blown away last week about the price of Wiper Blades for my 1972 Chevy truck. Used to replace the pair for under $10. Was $35 bucks for the basic blade. Holy crap! The truck hadn't been used on the road for years. I just moved it a few feet to mow under it. The blade part of the blades were non existant and al that was left was the rubber part that mounted on the metal part of the blade frame. Fot the most part, the parts aren't near as expensive as new cars. Probably more steel in the box than an entire new truck. I can open the hood and work on it.

James -I am so sorry to hear about your sister.

Curt - Like the photos. Looking forward top see how the new layout is coming along.

Todd - I stayed away from screwing around with my truck. It is a heavy duty 3/4 ton as they did not make 1 ton pickups back then. I had to break down and change the rims because nobody wanted to work on split rims any more. Stayed with as close as I could get to the old 7.50/16 tires. That truck worked. had a slide in camper on it that we used when the kids were young and hauled a lot of fire wood in it. Cut logs to 10 foot long until I was over the cab and then16 foot over the cab. @ cords a trip. Can't see the lift kits and knobby tires. I did a lot of side hilling in the mountains and wanted the center of gravity as low as possible. The ground clearance isn't any more than the axles or differential.

Willie - Like the photos as usual. I have the original merchants row. Wish plastic was available when I got it.

Sherrel - Go to a shop for the A/C. You need it where you are. Had to laugh when the guy from the Cali utilities was wanting people to cut down of their electrical usage and not to charge their EV's.

Chad - That train room is really coming along. Now all you have to do is to put a house on the basement to keep it dry.

Patrick - I am happy to not have a lawn to mow any more. I have hear people whining about having to mow a small lawn in a subdivision lot. Mowed 2 acres for 45 years. Probably could have gone to the east coast and back.

Ken - Trying to sell a vehicle to a car dealership is a laugh. You described exactly what they'll do for an estimate. A band of thieves.

Alan - Liked that video. Those PA units are sweet. Modeling passenger trains can be a lot more expensive. Saw where some of the Northern Pacific passenger cars from Walthers were on Ebay for twice if not more that original retail. I would like to put them up for sale but they are in an unopened moving box in one of my closets.

My NASCAR race is under a rain delay but should restart soon.

Here are more photos from that archives.

Jaz I think you need to make your house kid proof You keep getting banged up Well maybe that will be the last and your luck will change

I kinda know how alcomotive feels I lost a brother while he was in the army stationed in Germany and a brother in law a drunk hit him on his Harley Like I all most did Then another bil went down in small plane while on a trip to florida keys scuba diving was with his mom and dad all three were pilots I was supposed to be with them so would have been four pilots but some other business kept me home They never found them not a trace I still have the radar tracking of them looping in big circles then gone

They were in a Beech Bonanza 35 that they owned and were last reported at 8,000 ft 20 mi sw of Marco Island The NTSB said they just vanished from radar Well not really I knew the coast guard had small boats in that area for drug smuggling and they had radar on board they would not give me info So contacted a friend who happened to be a congressman and did get the radar print from them We were looking in wrong area miles away from where they went down And never understood why no mayday call will never know

Joe - I saw your governor on TV this morning. He looked really hung-over!
Well.....He has new implants and dentures, Wife thinks he had a face lift. During the lock down, All liquor stores were deemed essential, and were required to stay open...well, what do you think? I just wonder what he may be planning to run for, as he cannot run for Governor again... Maybe Brandon should watch out.

ALAN - That is a Great Train! 15 cars - is that correct?
Sorry about the mower, sort of been there, done that - but not quite to that extent.
Loved your take on it though!
Speaking of mower wars: After a bunch of YouTube videos (took about 5 or 6 to sort out the guys who thought they were funny, worked while drinking beer, and just plain had rotten skills), I found a couple of vids that helped me understand what was going on with the Toro. What would we do without YouTube? 😁 I put her back together partially, then resumed the job, doing it by the book. Got a belt, put it on, and put her back together. She's up and running. Oh yeah, that other new mower...🤔 It'll become my primary. the Toro will be a spare, if I ever need a bagger. I usually just mulch, but if I get enough rain to delay cutting, or heavy leaves in the fall I'll use the bag. The Snapper converts from side discharge to mulch, the Toro converts from bagger to mulcher. Plus there's that whole drive issue with the Toro. I think it's a bad design, and doesn't have the longevity I prefer. If you find yourself looking at a Toro Recycler Personal Pace mower, get the front axle drive model. The belt is much easier to change on those.

Gonna get a little train time in today, then chicken wings on the Weber Kettle grill for dinner! Want to see something interesting? Check out "Making Wings Using the Vortex on a Weber Kettle Grill" on YouTube. They cook up nicely!

The mower that I posted about this morning turned out to be an easier fix than I anticipated. A combination of a clump of grass and some pieces of mangled twigs had jammed the center (of three) blades. Of course then I had to resume mowing. Now it is getting dark and the weather radar shows that it's raining here, but there are no drops on the pool surface or dripping off the roof. I think that I will just spend some time out in the train shed.

Wow that’s a lot of bad luck for one family, and losing so many of the guys, thus income (cynical but the girls and kids obviously losing husband and father is devastation) I dare say you get survivors guilt it has to go with the you were meant to be there, but you do not deserve to feel that, I bet for your family it is a blessing you were not, brother in Germany I assume was an accident in service, not good it happens though to some unlucky people.
my mum died in her 50s in hospital from blood poisoning they caused while helping her :( my dad made it to his 90s my brother older does well, I drove my mother in law home and she fell ill, I got her in hospital which she was not keen to do, but she needed it ,and within the week was dead of a stroke, I am forever thankful that 1. It did Not happen while driving her 2. That I pushed her to hospital and did not leave her to die alone, and that husbands family never blamed me, I rang husband on the drive and he said bring her back but she flatly refused said she had something important in a day or so at home and we were much closer to hers than ours, so husband said okay, but she collapsed and I had to borrow a wheelchair to get her back in car. It was quite scary.

My husband on his motorbike was hit by someone sending him into a road light, they drove off, luckily he managed to get up and back on bike, and whilst riding behind him twice he swerved to avoid major potential incidents, so I feel for the rider.

Losing three family members and not even able to account for it must be seriously traumatic.

Barring an irresponsible second cousin who committed suicidal by going the wrong way on a motorway killing a couple of others and damaging a lorry and two cars, I have been relatively lucky. his close family were horrified by his actions, and others felt free to target them mostly with words.

I dare say many of us have luckily escaped near misses, but I do sympathise the succession of bad luck - well luck has nothing to do with it, in your family must be devastating. My sympathies.

Afternoon All,

Been gone a couple of days because I just didn't have anything to say. Today I did some chores and prepared the static grass area on the layout which I'll put down tomorrow or Tuesday. Tomorrow night we pick up Dad at the airport.

Thank you for the photo likes several days ago.

Troy- Nice job on the table. I recommend Tuscan Red for the table. 😂

Alan- Great video.

Willie- Nice layout shots. You're making good progress.

Chet- Thank you. Great layout shots.

James- I'm continuing prayers for your family.

TomO- Great photos of the grandkids. You're making great progress on your scratchbuild.

Guy- Nice 1:1 photos.

Jaz- I love the photo of the splash from the car. I don't think I've ever seen that modeled before.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good evening all! Sorry for my time away. Hurt my ribs a couple days ago and I've mainly just been sitting with an ice pack on them. Honestly not sure what I even did to hurt them but believe me, they hurt a lot!
Our model railroad club set up its modular layout over at the Palestine, IL high school this weekend for the annual Labor Day weekend festivities. Our setup is always popular with the crowd and it's always our best chance to get together and run trains. I skipped out on it yesterday due to my rib pain but made it over there for a bit today. I took video and photos. I started a new YouTube channel for our club today and posted video from my time there today. We're hoping to get at least 100 subscribers so we can get a more memorable URL for our channel.
I've attached a few pics from the setup to this post. Hope you all have a great day!
