Morning all,

I was off yesterday to work on server updates today. Darn things taking longer and longer to update.

Terry: Condolences to you and your extended families.

Supposed to finish some work at the boy's house tomorrow and wouldn't you know, expecting highs near 100°. I deliberately put it off until it was "Cooler". I expect snow next weekend when I'd have time otherwise.
 


WHat a morning. Coffee, Flo - - Leave the pot. In fact BRING ME A BAG OF BEANS AND I'll just eat the bloody things straight.

Refrigerator boys showed up to install the new fridge and take away the old. Seemed competent. So after they go, I try to purge the water in the door line. No water, no air. Yes the in-line valve is on. I saw them turn it on, but checked anyway.

Calls to LG later and turns out they goofed. They had to remove the doors to get it in, and they did not reinstall them properly. Coming back today with the dishwasher installation to do it right. I could, but if I do yadayadayada ... So we've been listening to the alarm chime all day and all night.

Then we got the foster greyhound. He's a beauty - mostly black with white and a few brown accents. Hopper is his name. Doing pretty good but did have a rough night. Lots of crying and barking. Tummy problems, don't ya know. And looks like he might be a "siren howler" - - - Our Great Pyrenees up north did that. Was kind of cute. But here we live two blocks from the combined Police, Fire, Rescue station. Lots of sirens. That could be rough.

So, very little sleep. No train work yesterday, and I'm not sure I should try wiring until I get some shuteye.

I'll post a pic of the new boy later.

Good morning. It's clear and 45.
The walk/disconnection procedure went as planned, but the daughter in laws seems to have other plans. After everything was turned off and disconnected, she began (sort of) breathing on her own. Blood o2 levels hovered in the mid 30s to low 40s for over 9 hours, now have gone to around 80, and have remained there for the last few hours. The hospital is now in the process of moving her to hospice.

Good morning y'all. Today is clear and sunny. The temperature was 53° at 0730, inside temperature was a chilly 68°. And it's full blown allergy time again...my sinuses are plugged...It's always something....

Willie: That looks like an interesting kit. Hydrocal buildings have the right masonry look to them, I just haven't tried any...yet.
When I had my knee surgery 15 months ago, I had a covid test as part of the pre-op , but never got the results until the morning of discharge. I have been back there several times since for lab work, and had to tell the gate keeper where I was going, but nothing more. The lab was taking temperatures and enforcing distancing in the waiting area. Nothing is consistent. Hope they find the source and nature of your wife's infection.

I plan on spending more time working on the elevated terminal, as well as the overhead bridge leading to the terminal. The entire complex is 4' long. And I'm keeping it on one module. The actual station building will be on a separate module. Until yesterday, I did not give much thought to mortar lines and weathering, or wiring for lights and track. Better to consider this now, than after the structure is complete, eh?

With the Delaware and Raritan Canal in the foreground, this is Westbound Train BL1 (Phillipsburg NJ to Trenton NJ (Coalport), back in the 60s. I can date this as around 1966, as the RS11 no longer has its Trainphone antenna, but has not yet been renumbered. The RS3 still has Trainphone.

Float Bridges #8 and #9 on the Jersey City waterfront at Greenville. There was a MR article a few years ago which featured a LV themed layout in 1943 along this same waterfront. All this waterfront is now redeveloped.

I did not finish laying the second rail last night. We had the grandkids for a couple hours and that will always take priority over my hobby. Today is packed. The Art Fest around the Capital in Madison is back this year, they moved the Saturday Farmers Market around the Capital to the soccer stadium down the street a 1/2 mile or so. We will hit both plus another Farmers Market on the west side of Madison. Dinner tonight is out around 5 with the daughter’s family. Basically it is for celebrating our upcoming birthdays on the 27th and 29th. Terry is 1 year and 2 days older then me, and I will never let her forget it.

Tom O ... Thanks for responding to my asking you about track laying. It sounds like a good method. What is barge cement?

Willie ... I'm glad things went well for your wife in spite of the confusing hospital protocol. Your Downtown Deco kits look like fun to make. I have never tried on of their kits.

Christian .... Your country walks appear to be very peaceful . I bet the dogs love doing that.

Joe ..... It is good your doctors are keeping your condition under control. I like your photos of the steam passenger train , Alcos hauling freight, and the waterfront with car ferries. Your layout progress is very impressive especially the large building. Thanks for commenting on my sleeper.

Curt ..... I refer to my red tractors as International Harvester, but really they are cheap generic models. IH had some facilities near where I grew up in Illinois.

Troy .... I like the "office" , and I see who is on the computer.

Steve .... Now that the new fridge is in , will yo have plenty of refreshments for the Coffee Shop Patrons? 😋 .... The greyhound sounds like a nice addition. Too bad he reacts to sirens, though.

Garry: Yeah, especially when they collectively scared the crap outta me when the first CT Scan results were published. Even the Vein Reflux isn't something life threatening, just painful and limiting my activities. :confused:

Growing up, I used to spend a lot of time along the waterfront, with my buddies. I am trying to incorporate as many scenes from memory, as space and resources allow. Time will tell how successful I am.
 
Good Morning all! We awoke to another relatively low humidity day, reportedly our last for awhile. I did finish adding sound boards to the generator shed plus a couple of extra baffles so the sound doesn't go straight to the fans or vents. In the house I've got it down to 60 db. So should we need it, we won't be to disturbed with noise.

Terry - What can one say at a time like this, condolences to you and the family.
Christian - Lovely looking countryside.
Willie - I need to look into a hydrocal building. I do like that warehouse.

I watched "Unstoppable" for the umpteenth time last night. I have always wondered why when they brought out the 2 locos to slow the runaway, you know the guy hanging from the helicopter, that they didn't think to have an engineer just step across from the rescue locos to the runaway. Guess it wouldn't be much of a movie then.

Garry,

from what I understand Barge cement is a contact cement. Meaning you have to apply to what it is being glued to and also to what needs to be glued down. Wait 30 minutes and press together. Barge cement was supposedly made for the repairing the soles of leather shoes.

I buy it from my local hardware store, a Do It center. I have seen it at our local Home Depot but others have told me not at their’s. It smells and in combination with the MEK air ventilation is a must.

Hey all. I've had an interesting day. Currently writing from my cabin, north of Hinckley, MN. The nearby Pine County History Museum has a small RR club/display, and they were hosting a flea market. Mostly train set stuff, but I found a few cars I can use. I'm kicking myself for not grabbing three circus cars to flip on eBay, these guys want everything gone anyway!

I also met with a Facebook contact, a guy who used to volunteer with Minnesota Transportation Museum, has a little friendship with Friends of 261 and another nearby group. He's also a veteran Wisconsin Central engineer. Had lunch with him and listened to stories. Good time!

I know some stuff about running a train thanks to tons of reading and my short stint with FO261, but I find the best results come when you stay humble among the salty railroaders. They'll really open up with cool stories about 'the life' then.
 
Afternoon All,

Picked up Dad at the airport and brought him home. The airport was an ordeal. Tomorrow I'm scheduled for my Pfizer booster at Publix. Our local VA was gearing up but wasn't giving them yet. I did get the flu shot and the newer pneumonia vaccine at the VA. I'm starting to chomp on the bit to get started again on the layout. I'm not quite there but I can see the end of moving coming up.

Christian- Very peaceful looking countryside.

Willie- Those are going to be great looking buildings.

Terry- My condolences. It's a very tough situation for the family.

Joe- Interesting photos.
