Good morning. 47f now and only 51 later.

Tired from a full day yesterday. Was picked up at 7am and home at 10:15pm. 2 ops sessions that the 1st went ok but the 2nd was truly outstanding. My next Ops session was 11/14 but he blew out his NCE command station Tuesday when I was there helping and he borrowed another friend’s unit. NCE will look at his but it’s a possible 6-8 weeks so the next session there is cancelled. Due to family health issue concerns I cancelled all my ops session appearances but that 11/14 one.

Not sure what today will bring. Terry’s procedure scheduled for this morning was cancelled at 5:45am 15 minutes after we left the house this morning. I’m hoping to nap in a few minutes!

Enjoy your day

Sweep!

That one word makes a statement. It won't wipe away the memory of being swept by the Dodgers in 2025 NLCS from Brewers fans. But it is the best way to answer back - sweep! 2026 NLCS Brewers 4 games Dodgers 0 - Sweep!

NLCS - National League Championship Series

I can't find an image of a Brewers' broom! The Oriole Bird will be happy to provide one. My Birds won't be needing it until spring cleaning.

Well, howdy there internet peeps.

Had to put the benchwork redo on hiatus over the weekend. Got asked to help out at gaming convention this weekend. I'm a sucker, so I said yes.

Now I need to paint a bunch of models for the demo games tomorrow.

Here's pics from the demo game I learned last evening. This game store has terrible lighting. It's basically a converted rental warehouse/storefront space. More for trades-professionals like HVAC or Plumbers. So high ceilings, 8ft fluorescent tubes way up there, and nothing down low. But, it's in between me and him. An hour each way for driving.

Yes, this is a carpet remnant square from Mendards. The demo game was low points and played on a 2ft by 2 ft battlefield.

My dudes are unpainted, and the Chonkey boy in the middle was the VIP. He's full of elemental fire magic, and don't care who he squashes. So when the Norse faction arrives he unleashes on them.

OK... I need to get to painting those little dudes.

My morning so far has sucked. I decided to throw the towel in and walk away.

I bought 3 new freight cars that were on closeout (50% off) from Trainworld. 1 Bowser, 1 Intermountain, and 1 Rapido. Unbelievable high quality detail on all of them, but those fine details disintegrate/break off/etc by just a slightly wrong touch or probably a strong breeze.

The Intermountain tank car slipped out of my hands about 3" above my bench. 2 stirrups, the brake wheel, and one of the coupler springs detached from their places. I was able to find the brake wheel and one of the stirrups. The coupler pockets are solid, so I would need to do surgery to replace a coupler. Suck #1

The Bowser box car has the most fragile stirrups I have ever seen. I'm sure a strong breeze could break them off. It just took my index finger to snap 2 of them off, then the brake hoses next to the couplers. I found one of the stirrups and reattached it. The other one is probably out in the land of missing parts somewhere. I am contemplating leaving the brake hoses off if they're that fragile. Suck #2

The Rapido box car has made it undamaged so far, from my weathering bench, to the drying shelf. I still have plenty of time to mess this one up when I take it outside to spray dullcote on it. Possible suck #3

I should probably stick with Roundhouse or Bachmann cars from now on. They're made for rough handling from youngins and old guys with ham hands.

Good Morning All. Cloudy, windy and 57°, not expected to go above 62° today. Low tonight in the low-40's. That will be quite the change. Stiff north wind will gradually increase before backing off around dusk. It did rain last night with sprinkles starting around 6pm which hastened my hamburger grilling! It became a little heavier right after dark, with .4" in the gauge this morning. So not too significant but enough to delay any unnecessary outdoor chores until the wind dries things a bit. Starts to warm up again on Tuesday. Contemplating whether or not to start an early fire in the wood-burning stove; probably not as inside it's a comfortable 73° and the house holds its temperature pretty well.

The grocery trek yesterday went as planned, store had everything in stock. Although I wondered why they only have organic beets and no non-organic ones! Actually been that way as long as I can remember. On the subject of food, yesterday I planted my Garlic crop for next Spring. I'm a bit late and didn't plant according to the Old Farmer's Almanac since I was out of town last week, but it should be successful anyway.

I expect that the wind will dry out the yard before 11 this morning, and I will process some firewood that I gathered yesterday. Ground though will be too mushy until tomorrow which precludes moving any more from the many places that it currently is. Two large stacks of green wood where my trees were removed, another even larger stack where the lumberjacks dropped off the trimmings from the job that they did nearby; and the stuff in my woodlot that I cut up last winter! I'm good to go until at least midway in 2029 without cutting down another tree in the woodlot or elsewhere. It's also time to fire up the mower again as the grass has resumed growing.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I started some preliminary work on the two laser-cut wood structures. Mainly familiarizing myself with the parts, cutting and gluing bracing and applying primer to the first one.

Kusojiji -
I wonder why only 75 million people, though. I would think more than that are getting a check.
Not sure I understand your comment. There's only 75 million people receiving Social Security to begin with. That represents ~20% of the population in total. More than I thought were in the "senior citizen" class.
Terry - I have used wine glasses for water before, but I prefer my 50 year-old recycled Sunkist Orange Juice bottle instead...real glass!
Karl - Too bad about the cold anniversary dinner, but it sounds good anyway. My propane supplier guarantees delivery in an hour regardless of the time of day or night! I never tested it, but I know a few who have...accidentally of course!
Tom O - That's a drag regarding Terry's procedure.

Bassist/composer for Bachman-Turner Overdrive, C.F. Turner is 83 today. The late Bob Weir, guitarist/composed for the Grateful Dead was born on this day in 1947; he passed away earlier this year. And someone who I never really listened to, singer/guitarist John Mayer is 49 today. Wife likes him but he came around after I stopped listening to much of the current stuff.

Everyone have a fabulous Friday.
