It's 50F here. Been like that since Saturday night. Lows in the 40s or maybe lower? (no frost) and highs in the low to mid 50s. Overcast. Drizzly rain. Did not get the 2"-4" of rain they forecasted for our area but it has been raining off and on since Saturday night -- and a small amount of sprinkles and showers in between bursts of sun on Saturday, which was slightly warmer. But it's just been drizzly rain off and on, and maybe 1" since Saturday night.

We don't have the heat on in the house and it was 64F when I got up this morning. It slowly warms up as we cook, people do stuff, etc but every morning is a bit colder. The forecast is that today is the last day of rain. Two days of partly cloudy and then 4 days of sun. Though the temperature doesn't change that much. From mid too high 50s forecasted up into the low 60s. But the sun shining into th house and slightly warmer temps outside should warm up the house.

This is moisture from the Hurricane Rachel as it dissipates and moves across the country.

Good afternoon folks, it is still 86 here after hitting 88 earlier and light overcast. Supposed to get some cooler temps and rain tomorrow, both of which will be welcome.
Went bu the gunstore today to see about the schedule. I will be going back in tomorrow morning, Thursday and Saturday, then Monday of next week at least. The panic buying for deer season starts this week. Picked up a lovely little Smith & Wesson "Pinto" revolver I had on layaway. A model 36 in .38 Special with a 3" barrel. Rather unusual and a very handy little gun. And the holster was with it.

Sometimes, you get the bear. Sometimes, the bear gets you.
I was looking for decoder deals on our favorite auction site when I ran across a sale of an Atlas U25B, not running, for less than the price of a standard decoder. I thought, if nothing else I can use the thing for parts, so I bought it. This evening it arrived in the mail. The box says it's factory DCC equipped, so maybe the decoder is bad, or isn't making good electrical contact. I put it on the track, and sure enough--nothing.
I stuck it on the programming track, and found it had been assigned a completely random address (10), and had analog turned off. So, if somebody put it on the track, it wouldn't have done anything on straight DC, and nobody would have guessed that engine 6609 was assigned address 10. I assigned it the cab number as the address, put it on the track, and away it went. It's currently tooling around the layout as I type.

Looks like this time, I got the bear...

Good morning all. Managed to sleep in today - 0550. Internal alarm clock got me up in time for my 0600 eye drops. Wanted to sleep more, but got up anyway.

Will be boxing up my new loco for return to the UK today. The messed up paint got to my OCD, so I will go for the return/replacement. Cost for shipping is only $11, so not bad. Unfortunately, I've gotten good at this process and have many previous shipments on the Japan Post website that I can replicate to make a new shipping label.

Todays guess is some rain at noon. Temps up to 26C. We'll see.

This is my 3rd week out of the hospital, so one more week to go. Have to do something to reverse the disappearing act. Fish will enjoy the water change as well since I use a 5 gallon bucket to do that.

Troy: We've had a Bubba's 33 here in Wichita for nearly 10 years. Good place to eat! The 33 is for 1933, when prohibition was repealed.
I had to go to the AI overlords track down the info on Bubba's 33. Google wasn't helping. Their website (bubba's and google) wanted to get me to the locals, not actual information.

That link shows the locations for Bubba's. Indiana is second only to texas for number of locations! And it was started as the sports bar version of Texas Roadhouse!

Per Claude:
Yes, Bubba’s 33 is owned by Texas Roadhouse. It’s a sports bar concept operated by Texas Roadhouse Inc. The founder is the same person: the late Kent Taylor created the brand in 2013, some 20 years after his flagship Texas Roadhouse was established. It’s a corporate-owned sister brand, not a separate company. Taylor’s nickname was “Bubba,” and the 33 is a nod to 1933, the year Prohibition ended. Bubba’s 33 To Replace Former TGI Fridays Site in Reynoldsburg +2

As for how far it has spread, the chain is still fairly small and heavily weighted toward Texas. The count has grown quickly:

  • In 2022, Bubba’s 33 had 38 locations overall, 15 of them in Texas. ketk
  • In September 2024, ScrapeHero counted 49 restaurants in 15 states and territories, with 21 (about 43%) in Texas. Indiana was second, with about 10%. scrapehero
  • A later news report put it at 54 locations in 15 states, with Louisiana (Lafayette and Ruston) among the planned new states. theadvocate
  • More recent coverage of the planned Davenport location describes more than 50 existing locations across 15 states. That site would be the chain’s first in Iowa. russellco

Texas Roadhouse has said it opens about 30 new locations a year across both brands, and its annual report expects about 10 new Bubba’s 33 restaurants this year. Recent announcements include Beavercreek and North Olmsted in Ohio, and Reynoldsburg, a Columbus suburb. So the count is likely in the high 50s to 60s by now, but I couldn’t find an exact current figure. The most authoritative number would be in Texas Roadhouse’s latest quarterly report, or on the location finder at bubbas33.com. whatnow

For those who shop on Fakebook Marketplace..........from Malwarebytes

Facebook users are reporting receiving a message with a fake Facebook Marketplace listing that has their name as the seller.

It works like this. You receive a message (in this case iMessage) asking “Is this still available for purchase?” Attached to the message is a fabricated Facebook Marketplace listing.
Tapping on the picture, you might notice that the seller’s name is the same as your name. This is known as a conversation lure, adding legitimacy to a message and giving you an additional reason to reply.
Interestingly in the example we received, even though the name of the seller matched the person who received the message, the profile picture did not. When I researched the profile picture, it turned out that it belongs to another Facebook user with the exact same name.

This likely means the attacker had a phone number associated with a name that they used to create the fake Marketplace listing. Receiving a message like that is very likely to provoke the natural corrective response: “That isn’t me.” Such a message will probably have a lot of receivers think that they are being impersonated by a scammer on Marketplace.

This method of approach may seem like a lot of work with a low chance of success, and this would have been true a few years ago. But with an AI agent and a list of matching names and phone numbers from a breach, this can be done relatively easy at scale. And that changes the return on time invested dramatically.

The name and phone number combination could come from any number of data breaches. On the dark web, cybercriminals buy and sell personal data for such purposes.
“For less than the cost of a cup of coffee, a cybercriminal can buy enough information to devastate someone’s financial life.”
The personalized screenshot would work very well as a reply trigger. Its psychological function is well thought out and likely very effective: it combines curiosity, reputational concern, and the recipient’s impulse to correct an apparent mistake.

But when you reply to a phishing text you are telling a scammer that this is a live number. Your phone number then increases in value for the scammer and can be resold to other scammers. Or it can be used in other cybercrimes, to download malware, to begin a relationship that leads to fraud, to take over your Facebook account, or many other reasons.

Beware my friends....John
Well, of course after I write the above, I gain access. The one that is in Japan is the one that was in Ft Worth yesterday. No clue where the one that departed O'Hare on the 11th is.

B1tching about it seems to get the online service's attention, I guess...
Ft. Worth is main distribution center. They sure stay busy..................screwing crap up.

As long as I have lived in Texas, I have never heard of Bubbas 33. After looking at the locations, I see why. None are near anywhere I have ever lived.
After looking at some of the interior views of the restaurants, I see they are very much like the Texas Roadhouse interiors.
The burgers look real good. I wonder if it is the same burger at Texas Roadhuse?
My son lives west of Sherman Tx so maybe he and I can go there and try the 33.
