Howdee, Folks!
After a long hiatus, I am back in the community. I see some familiar faces, but also some new ones I did not meet in the old forum!
Much has changes in the long years I was away. We moved house to a new location, close to a narrow gauge line with daily steam train operation all around the year.
Just to give you an impression of what I am talking about:


I have also resumed model railroading, this time building a British outline O scale (Fine Scale) micro layout. So far, I have nearly completed the station building.

I was able to buy two engines for the price of one!

The detail is just fantastic! I paid less than $300 for both!

Both are quite the beast, when you compare it to a diminutive 0-4-0 tank engine in HOn30 scale.

Progress will be slow as sourcing from the UK is somewhat hampered due to the UK leaving the EU.

I made this last Friday for a church chili cook-off social for the congregation at our new house location. No tomato. But it does have some beans (5 cans of black beans and 4 cans of Navy/Great Northern white beans -- no darn pinto beans) along with an over abundance of ground meat. It actually is one of the better ones I've made recently. I'm making another tomorrow for the church social where we currently live.
 
Just got home from errands and the demo drive.
They had the foundation version of the CyberTruck. The Beast as they call it. Got most of my questions answered and saw firsthand other things I had been pondering for the past 3 years.
The steer by wire was interesting with the rear wheels steering too. I could maneuver in tight parking lot spaces quite easily. The acceleration was about like my Goldwing. Really slams ya back in the seat. Most of the focal point of the vehicle in is the center consul. I like the foldup second row of seats for stowing stuff as I usually did with my Ford F-150. They said the tongue weight limit for the trailer is 1,100 lbs. I think that's a bit high, but then, I wouldn't be pulling a trailer that heavy.
As mentioned about the quality. I noted the fit and trim was in the amateur range of quality. Panels just didn't line up well nor where they consistent around the truck. A piece of trim had come loose up over the passenger door that I reached up and snapped it back into place.
They offer a battery extender for $16000, yeah 16 thousand that adds 110 more miles of range to the battery but weighs almost a ton.
Overall, I like the truck. I can look past the fit n trim part. The version I would buy is the two-motor truck, not quite as sprint capable but it can still pull my trailer for occasional local events. I would probably get a wrap done to it as the stainless-steel collects fingerprints like a refrigerator does. I don't intend to get into any shoot outs while driving the truck, so the bullet proof panels is a pointless standard feature. I did notice the only two panels on the truck with a bowed design was the front lower grill and the front hood. Everything else was flat panels. The edges of the panels was almost ragged in some places, like along the front hood and fender joint.

I don't know if anybody else has experienced this, but ever since I got the new car, I've suddenly been getting calls from "Insurance Company". When I ask what they're calling me about, someone on the other end, in of course off-shore English and a very bad connection tells me "it's about my coverage". After several very frustrating minutes of trying to find out what's wrong with my coverage, I finally find out that for only $388/month, they want to provide me with extended warranty insurance for the car I just bought.
And here I thought "we've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty" scams had died...
 
Well, as they've figured out the Nigerian Prince with money scam wasn't working, they've gone with the extended warranty thing.
May sound like a good deal but here's the catch.
Before any repairs can be covered, ya need an authorization code from them.
To get the authorization code, the mechanic shop has to call the number provided with the repair identifier. He will end up sitting on the phone for an hour or so being put on hold then transferred to some other department until he decides he can't be wasting his time like that. He gives ya the option, 1) get the code another way, or 2) pay for the repair yourself.
The warranty repair silently slinks away never to be heard of again after a year or so.

The extended warranty things are still alive just like a mutation of the Covid virus. Email, telephone, snail mail
continue to be hurry up and renew before every wiz bang gizmo fails and you're not covered---even for cars I no
longer own. I tell them I have an extended warranty with my local auto salvage yard which covers everything.
 


Good Evening from Lafayette LA. Just got back from a delicious Cajun meal. As usual, our hotel room is as far away from the front desk and still be on the property as it can be. And no complimentary Happy Hour except on Wednesdays!
Can't wait to get home tomorrow and sleep in MY BED. At least the toilets here and in the condo were "comfort toilets", or high ones. In both this hotel room as well as the one that we stayed in last Friday, there are no clocks! Even in the condo, the only clock was on the oven/range. I guess that they expect everyone to have a cell phone. To make matters worse, the ice machine on our floor here doesn't work.

We decided to do the Bush library in Dallas today instead of Friday. Dallas has the worst traffic, traffic patterns and they sure don’t drive the Texas Way. Every time we’ve driven through or around the Dallas area, I think it’s worst than Chicago and LA traffic. Terry says now that we’ve seen the Bush #43 Presidential Library we no longer have reasons to be in Dallas, I agreed

We planned to get to the library at 10am and we got there 11:00, we left at 2:30 and arrived at the FW stockyards at 4. Both beyond the 46 minutes drive time per the Mapz.

Tom O - I didn't know that you might detour down FM 156. That's where I have done most of my train watching for the last 45 years. I have a spot that I can park at the north end of what is now known as Krum Junction. It was known as Dalton Junction in the Santa Fe days. It's a pretty broad wye that used to connect with the Santa Fe yard in NE Dallas, where I watched trains during high school. ATSF sold that line to KCS just before the BNSF merger and now 4-6 KCS trains interchange there daily. A couple even run thru to the Alliance Yard down in Haslet, where they have a refueling agreement.
It's always interesting to see what is on the sidings mainly north of the Wabtec facility, both incoming and outgoing. BNSF deadheads lots of locos north, originally for CP directly, now to the KCS interchange...keeping it in the family so to speak.

I’ll be back the end of March and I’ll be spending a few days in Fort Worth. That whole road was interesting along the rail line. I love diesel locomotives and spent lots of time at EMD in LaGrange, Il when they were building in the early 70’s. Wabtec is right there with my interests
