Good morning all, 36° and cloudy, a little light rain, gonna be cooler today

KenDJ - your back story, often a bed of thorns in there somewhere

Curt - your crossing pic/video posted a couple days ago, looks GREAT

Guy - swing gate is fine. You may have some fudging to do over time with those close tolerances, the wood has a tendency to shrink/swell some over time

Here is a pic of one of my favorite box cars. I just noticed the big gaps in the rails. Made a nice clickety sound, plus no expensive locomotives on my railroad

TomO - so you are Vietnam era. I was in fourth grade during the worst of it, images from the TV and Time magazine still haunt me. I believe it was an awful time for our country. I am sure much worse for the soldiers.

Good morning, and a frosty morning it is!
Guy- Nice job on the swing gate. I have a friend that has 2 lift out gates that the track is powered. He uses the old jack style plug to connect the feeders to the main buss.
Thanks for the comment, Curt. I was probably gathering the stuff to make an electric transfer harness when you were typing out that message. Luckily, I had all the stuff in my storeroom.

The harness was soldered up and installed yesterday, but the solder connections to the track have yet to be made.

DaveB - Thanks for the comment on the gate. Actually, the slight fudging has already started. I find it just requires a firm thumb press to line the tracks up exactly to where they're supposed to be. - I like that box car, as well. - I've got one clicking spot on my layout so far, where there's a track space I didn't notice until too late. Annoys me.

Well, I'm getting to the spot where I'm going to need a bridge and some terrain work done. Think I'll call it the Deep Creek crossing. You can see the place on the other side if the layout.

I suppose that in my mind, the layout was a-lot bigger before it was built. In reality, it's a very small layout. One step bigger than the 4x8 sheet of plywood. For now, though, there is lots of modelling to be done, and I've allowed for easy expansion. That is, if I'm alive long enough.

Not much will be done hobby-wise today; I need to go do a job at 1:00pm. Plus, on the weekend I'll be moving the boy into his new house. So, I might be gone from the hobby for a few days. I'll be back later, though.

Thanks for the likes on these simple posts. Have a great day!

After the vaccines yesterday, my wife and I are taking a rare day off. Third one this month!

We don't feel bad, only a little fatigued.

I'm taking my day off seriously. Napping on the couch with my beagles in between watching old TV shows. Cannon was good this morning. I feel asleep before the ending, but I have seen them all.

My wife is around somewhere doing something. She acts like the energizer bunny. I made the mistake once of saying "you are not 20 anymore" that did not go over well. Now I just ask her to sit with me when she goes by.

Be good Jeff, it will hurt you more than her if you are not.

I'm just joking, I know you will be good. I have faith in you, and you will be so happy when she returns!

My dog and I are going to eat a lot of steak over the next few days. My wife doesn't like red meat very well, so I'm planning to have a nice Porterhouse tonight... probably a bone-in ribeye one night... maybe a less expensive Sirloin another night. Hell... maybe I'll just do up a small rib roast and have leftovers for 3 days, LOL.

OK... taking suggestions for red meat for dinner... Whatchu suggest? [not doing Wagyu, or however it's spelled]

High school from 1966 to 1970. The nightly news bombarded us daily with pictures and reports from on the ground. It’s what made Dan Rathers career on CBS. Very traumatic for many but those nightly reports helped end a stupid action. Americans rose up. The problem though was the terrible treatment our military received when they returned home. No solder should ever be treated the way VietNam vets were. IMO our military should should be paid better, have free health care for themselves and family for life at any USA medical facility not just the VA. You know like what Congress has given themselves

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 49° here on the SFW estate. It appears that the rain has moved on, but we are under a wind advisory until around noon. It is a cold wind! I had to go out in it to read that the rain gauge had 1.15" in the last 24 hours. Clouds should dissipate and we'll get to 70° after the wind dies down.

I spent part of the day yesterday making ground beef from chuck roast. Let's see, chuck roast was on sale for $3.39/lb and ground beef was $7.99/lb. Took me about 15 minutes to do three pounds. Saved enough $$$ to get a whole 12 pack of beer!

Thanks for the likes and comments on the layout tasks completed yesterday.

No project work in the train shed yesterday, it was just a "run trains" kind of day. I am thumbing through the notebook of pending projects to determine which one is next. Today I will resume the quarterly layout cleanup; I have six structures remaining to remove and clean. I don't think any of them need repairs or any other additional work.
Here's one of the scenes that I ran through yesterday. This is just south of the North staging yard. The road overpass is the scene divider between the scenicked part of the layout and the staging yard.

Visible here is a GP60 with a couple of MOW cars getting supplies from the ATSF maintenance yard.

Main line is on the left. On the right is the interchange track with the Frisco (SLSF), and some industry spurs.

Dave B - Carport looks good.
Guy - The swing bridge turned out very well. The carpenter in you shines out.
Chad -
A cop here in Utah told me as long as it didn't leave a mark it was not considered abusive. I don't know if that was just their SOP or the actual law.
I believe that's the way the law is written here as well.
Tom O - Our local Kroger has 20 self checkout lanes and 7 checker lanes. At the time of day/week that I go, it is rare to see even two staffed, but most times I don't have to wait even when only one is open. That's why I go when I do. No crowds. I wonder about shoplifting when I see there are lines at the self checkouts and no lines in the staffed one. Baggers are hit or miss on some days; they are present about 80% of the time though. Unemployment benefits are rather tough to get in Texas I've read.
Curt - In case I didn't post it, the lawn chairs are 3D prints from MiniPrints. They are really slick and didn't really take me that long to paint.

Everybody have a great day. Hope that it warms up here sooner than later. Still cloudy but the wind has abated almost completely. I did enough "honey do" stuff yesterday.

I lived a sheltered childhood. Born in the mid 1960s, I didn't even know there was a war in Viet Nam until it was almost over. I was born after JFK was assassinated, but I was probably 5 or 6 years old before I realized his first name wasn't "Damn" as that's what my Dad would say... "That damn Kennedy..." Dad was closed-minded about many things. Having been sent away to boarding schools at an early age, I learned more about how not to behave from my Father, than anything else I learned from him.

I avoid talking politics or religion because my dad was always putting his foot in his mouth about how you were stupid if you weren't republican and you were going to hell if you weren't Lutheran.

Grilling chicken breasts tonight.

Wife put in a request for a beef roast with taters and carrots in the crock pot. That will be later this week.

But I think I can cowboy it up with some smoking, then into a dutch oven over the coals in the Kamado grill. Need to go check my favorite cowboy cooking channel on youtubez. Kent Rollins is my grilling hero most of the time.
