My wife likes my Amazon Kindel fire tablet. It is easy to use and the battery lasts. The only drawback is some apps are not available for it.
https://www.amazon.com/Fire-HD-10-tablet/dp/B08BX7FV5L
Which is why my tablet sits on the counter unused. The Kindle tablet is the perfect size and is user friendly, but the lack of useful (to me) apps makes it useless.

Yankees in a deep hole. Devils win, Caps win, and the Phillies are inseventh in a see/saw game currently leading 9-6 going into te bottom of the 7th.

I guess what motivated me into this bridge project was the New Haven Poughkeepsie RR bridge.

Poughkeepsie. Ten points out of ten for spelling it right. Nine if you had to look it up on the net. Only eight if you looked it up, typed it wrong and posted it without proofreading it again.

I would have been lucky to score even a two out of ten. Of course it is, also "whoosky hour where I am."

"Er...whatscky." No......"Whatever...ski. Or ski. No...Who...sky...no...".

In any case, you scored more points, I'm sure, than I did. :D I tip my hat in your general direction.

[Kinda hard to know, that last one. Because there are two of you...standing side-by-side."]

The problem seems to be the operating system. It's an older version of android. Purely speculation on my part.

I was disappointed the Lionel apps are not available for the kindle. I was so disappointed I went as far as to contact Amazon Kindel tech support and customer service. They took a report and were to pass it up to development. Six months later; still no Lionel Apps.

Microsoft office works on my Kindel and that is what I use most. That also makes it easy to access, save and organize online manuals.

It looks like both our teams will make it to the world series!

The Astros are the most balanced and best managed team.

On the other hand, the Yankees have two 300 hitters and a top reliever on the injury list. One of those hitters is one of the very best in MLB. Experts are whining about depth. Not even the Yankees have a bench to replace two 300 hitters.

I doubt the Yankees could get past Houston with no injuries.

The Washington Wizards are 2-0!

Since you mention hockey, if San Jose & Winnipeg get into a fight, do they proceed the fight with a song and dance number?

Right, paperwork all done for the return trip, French Police are a real PIA though, list of stuff I'm bringing back, checked, double checked, had to make a statement, as to why, wherefore I was bringing Dave's stuff back, got it all official now.

Sent group round to The Louvre and the Eiffel tower, by foot,(they were not impressed) but out my way for a while so I can get this all done.

The bags are all loaded, contacted the group leader, pick up at the Eiffel in an hour and a bit, then homeward bound, hopefully no drama, except for the chunnel.
Why weren’t they impressed Smudge ? I had a great time running around Paris when I was there for a short day.

I'm used to spelling it being I only live about 20 miles from the bridge. I was the last engineer that didn't have to cross the bridge as part of the training. Everyone after me had to make a qualifying run across the bridge to Maybrook. The Maybrook yard was abandon after the bridge caught fire in 1974. Being I never made it to Maybrook my wife and I took a ride over there to see what I missed. There was a sign at the yard location that read 1,500 people use to work here. I should have taken a photo of the sign.

Good Sunday morning from mid-America. it is 56 heading to possibly 80. Absolutely no mention of Indian summer, is that a PC thing now? The grass was cut in under 2 hours and I processed the whole set of lawns around the house. Upped the speed and finished quicker then ever before and still had time before the grandkids arrived yesterday. It looked beautiful for a few hours but with the wind blowing in the teens it didn’t take long for the leaves to come back. That’s ok though, the grass is at 3” for it’s Winter’s rest and I am not cutting until Springtime.

The grandkids yesterday. We had some swim time, went down to the stables to feed some apples to grand mom’s horses, took the ATV for a ride around (great time filler) and played a couple board games. They left at 7:20pm and while I thought of hitting up the train room, my chair in the cave is where I went. Hit the sack at midnight and had a decent sleep, up at 5:20 and swimming at 5:30.

I am not exactly sure yet what I want to do. Dinner at 6:30 is an invite out but my diet the last couple days is out of whack. So I might decline but will decide that later.

enjoy the day

Good morning, Everybody!

Lots of sports today! MLB League Championships. The Ravens host the Browns, and the Commanders take on the Green Bay Packers. DVR is going to be busy. Good thing it can record more than one thing at a time.

I finally got the Washington football team's name right!

Meatball sandwiches to eat during the games. My wife said "you just had that". I like meatball sandwiches! LandOLakes Provolone Cheese Partick!

Besides if I use up these beef meatballs, I have an excuse to buy more Johnsonville pork meatballs. I don't know why I fall for sale prices. I should always buy what I like best.

Have a great day Everybody!

Good morning!
Due to unforeseen events that came up early yesterday, I didn't make it down into the train room to run some track over my new gate. Didn't make it downstairs at all during the day.
I hope I can get down there today, and do something about that empty looking gate.
Next weekend will be out of the picture, for sure, because my son and family will be moving into the new house across the street. That means I'll be lifting furniture and driving the U-haul.

Troy - I'm fairly certain I'd be more into modelling and painting those figures than I would be playing the game. I'm not much of a game player.

James - I just don't get the way some people think. I'm already crying when I have to pay up to $60 hard earned bucks for a new tank car up here in the north country.

Thanks for all the likes on my gate postings. No one seemed to say it was a stupid idea and will fail soon.

Here's an archived photo from a couple of months ago, when the weather was quite a-bit warmer:

The SD-40's don't seem to be in town as much as they were last year. I try to get photos of those, if I see them in town. I can't seem to find much interest within myself in the newer GEVO's.

It's still dark, but, I'm going to walk the dog. The last time I walked the dog in a dark forest, a moose I couldn't see grunted as a warning to me. I turned around pretty quick, because I could tell that moose was close.

Have a great day!

Morning all,

Only took 2 hours to get this done this morning. Had the local grandkids over last night.

Grandson thought he'd get me with one of his jokes, but grandpa is still a bit quicker...

70° at 6:00a this morning. That should be a high this time of year.

The interview went ok. I was told there may be another with the technical folks. Had a pop up for another job I may be better qualified for and applied. We'll see if either are what I want to do.

Not sure what the Washington team's name will be next week. They seem to bend to vocal groups desires.
Another slow day. Didn't get anything done on the grade crossing yesterday. Just too much stuff to assemble to get anything done on it. Each tool I need is someplace else.
Pretty much over the cold that set in last Thursday. I made a batch of Chicken noodle soup Friday and have been feasting on that.
I'll try to get my gumption up today and do some work on the empire.

Good morning, 55 and sunny, a beautiful morning in East central MN. Gonna turn wet and rainy , then colder Tuesday, we will enjoy it while it lasts

Worked on cleaning up the forms from Friday's concrete pour, tidied up around the work area, also fiddled some with the Suburban yesterday. We had a big discussion about the noon meal after church, the longer we have been married, sometimes, the less sense our communication makes. Specially when you both already know what the other one is going to say...

Ken DJ - glad you are over the cold

Too many posts to read them all, need to get ready for church, but did have time to photograph this guy walking down to the river (I moved him yesterday)

Will catch up tomorrow -

Smudge - sounds like you had quite an adventure!

Good Morning All. Here it is partly cloudy and 67°, still a bit windy from yesterday. It's supposed to be more windy today, up to 30 mph, bringing in plenty of Gulf moisture for the predicted 100% chance of thunderstorms tomorrow. Up until yesterday, they were listed as thundershowers, now they are classified as thunderstorms.

Looks like I have a few branch tips to gather up in the yard that broke off the drought stressed trees around the yard during yesterday's high winds. Nothing major, all look to be 2'-3' long tips. No large branches. Hopefully the upcoming rain really comes. I tried to mow part of the back acreage Friday, but the dust was too much even with a mask, and I stopped. I had trouble with visibility.

The burial ceremony for my late brother went well yesterday, except the urn with ashes did not fit into the protective fiberglass casement. Whoops! We don't really know who mis-measured, but since the urn was a hand-carved wooden one, my brother and brother in law took it to BIL's house around the corner and sawed a sliver off the urn. Mission accomplished! Luncheon afterwards was OK, by noon all of the second and third generation had left for various ball games and left four of us first generation siblings and spouses to chit-chat uninterrupted for a few hours. Fifth sibling and wife had another engagement. It was good getting together with my #2 sister and husband from Ohio.

I didn't spend a lot of time in the train shed yesterday. And I am not too sure that I like the results that I obtained. Remember that I am going to add a winch (capstan?) at one of the grain elevators for moving cars into position. To accomplish this I started with a motor and pulley from a Rix grain elevator accessory kit. I glued it to a base that will be painted concrete.
IMG_2249.JPG

Then I used a scrap McHenry coupler (aren't they all scrap?), trimmed it up and added a length of .020" wire.
IMG_2250.JPG

IMG_2251.JPG

I bent a scrap piece of Woodland Scenics fence w/gate and I will use another piece to complete the enclosure. I cut out a hole and lined it with fencepost sized styrene rod.
IMG_2253.JPG

Next, using Gorilla brand Super Glue, I glued the other fence section in place. Here it is temporarily laid out.
IMG_2270.JPG

IMG_2269.JPG

OK, the enclosure is not perfectly square which is my issue right now.
IMG_2272.JPG

It's because I used a piece of scrap for the fourth side.
IMG_2273.JPG

I might disguise this with some bushes, or rebuild the fence. I will set it up completely, attach wire etc., and then decide.

Hughie - Thanks for the reference to the capstans, which confirms the realism of what I am going to attempt. Am I using the wrong terminology when I called it a winch?
George - Thanks for the heads-up on the concerts yesterday. Unfortunately I didn't read it until this morning. Heck! I don't even know whether or not we get ASX-TV? I would have enjoyed Winwood, Foreigner and Frampton the most.
James - As usual, the Utah Belt rolling stock is far too overrated for normal modelers to consider. A Roundhouse boxcar no less! It's at $177.50 this morning!

Everyone have a great Sunday.
