Woman stops 12 ft gator with .22 pistol!
"Florida Woman Stops Alligator Attack Using a small .22 caliber Ruger Pistol." Another good reason to have a concealed weapons permit.
This is a story of self-control and marksmanship by a brave, cool-headed woman with a small pistol against a fierce predator.
Here's her story in her own words: "While walking along the edge of a pond just outside my house in the Villages discussing a property settlement with my soon-to-be ex-husband, and other divorce issues, we were surprised by a huge 12-ft alligator which suddenly emerged from the murky water.
It began charging us with its large jaws wide open. She must have been protecting her nest because she was extremely aggressive.
"If I had not had my little Ruger 22 caliber pistol with me, I would not be here today! Just one shot to my estranged husband's knee cap was all it took.
The gator got him easily, and I was able to escape by just walking away at a brisk pace. The amount I saved in lawyer's fees was really incredible and his life insurance was also a big bonus!"

Question is did you learn anything new. I end up trying something new on an old Tyco car.
I am practicing with Abteilung502 oils. I have a few Athearn 40’ Baby HiCubes that I purchased when they came out in the 70’s or early 80’s that I practice on. I really like the rust effects you can get using the oils. I am not ready though to use it on anything good enough for my layout.

New stuff for me, so yes to the ? did I learn anything. So much is repeated though in other videos with of course just a bit different that it’s getting confusing. So, I am back to just watching John on JC’s RipTrack for oils. You Tube is amazing with what you can see and learn from

I need your prayers and positive thoughts.

Last night my Mom called us after midnight, not good.
She was having pain in her back and tightness in her chest but did not want to call 911. By design we live less than 5 minutes from my Mom.

I took her to the emergency room; she was admitted immediately. Minutes later she was on her way to having a heart catheterization because the EKG showed she was having a heart attack. They did not expect her to survive the procedure or last the night if she did. I was sent home because she would be admitted to the ICU to recover if she survived.

During the early morning hours, I got two calls from the heart doctors. First call informed me, she has two blockages, 95% on the left side and 100% on the right side. They were unable to put a stent in as her arteries had hardened too much. My Mom's heart muscle was dying. She is too frail for more aggressive treatment.
The second call told me she was in the ICU and resting comfortably. I was told not to expect her to wake up in the morning. We went over our choices and options for what procedures we did and did not want to have done. I do not want anything done that would cause her to suffer more. I was told CPR would likely break all of her ribs.

My wife and I were told we would be permitted to see her before visiting hours at 8AM because it was, as they said, an end-of-life event.

When I got to her room the nurse told me she had woken up a few minutes ago and she was asking for a cup of black coffee. That sounds like my Mom! Each of the four doctors that came in were surprised to find her conscious, alert and communicating. Although she was a little groggy from all the medication.

She had me searching the Direct TV in her room for the MLB network and the channels that will carry the playoffs tomorrow. She knew what day it was, and she knew the games would be on tomorrow.

Her blood pressure is dangerously low and is being treated. One of the doctors has hope that the medication can be a bridge to allow her heart to recover enough that she may yet leave the hospital. It may be a hospice or a full care nursing home. If she is not suffering, I would love to visit her every day wherever she is.
I think I replied through another post (error mine), but you certainly have all of them I can give. I have been there, and am in much the same situation every day. In my case I have my sister and her husband also close at hand, so I can actually go play golf when they are "on duty."

I have, too, and on more that one occasion been down on one knee asking for help myself, and for those close to me. Particularly her (my sister).

I'm good with it now, too. So I will ask.

Two weeks ago we were passing the town of Skagen, Denmark. Saw this charming (imo) station building.

Good morning. It's clear and 40.
I discovered (again) that just because USPS doesn't deliver regular mail on Federal holidays, they still deliver Priority Mail packages. I had a package arrive yesterday morning via Priority Mail, that sat in the mailbox until 6 this morning, when I checked tracking, and saw it had been delivered.

Good morning. Boy what a difference at 6:15AM comparing today’s total darkness to sunshine a month ago. I prefer the sunshine. I have 30 minutes in on the treadmill and will swim next.

The girls fly out at 11AM tomorrow so I was told they will leave for shopping this morning and I am on my own till dinner tonight at 5:30. The grandkids and parents will be here for dinner and 5:30 is when the kids eat, so…Terry was cleaning out the meat freezer yesterday. I grilled 16 brats, 10 Italian sausages, 10 hot dogs, and 5 bacon wrapped 6 oz rib eyes. For dinner we had 3 grilled potatoes, grilled asparagus, the last of the fresh green beans and 3 of those rib eyes. The last 2 beers (sorry WILLIE) in the house were used on the brats for 4 hours marinating. Dinner tonight is the last of the homemade tomato sauce and spaghetti, the last of the garlic bread and the last of the asparagus.

It is 50f degrees now heading to 73 and the lawn Service said they will be here today. I was thinking of cutting the grass again but gee not enough time before the service gets here. Maybe tomorrow if I bundle up as the high may not get to 50.

enjoy the day

Good morning all,

55° and heading for 77! I didn't realize summer was coming back this week, albeit for a day or two

Louis - sounds like a miracle your Mom made it through that night, prayers for the both of you

Chet - pics from Friday nice to see, glad you are still posting! Hope the shoulder improves!

I had Monday off and worked on our (1:1) driveway project all day, prepping for a concrete pour, getting the car port, apron, and part of the sidewalk done, enough for maybe a 8 yard pour. First it was just gonna be the carport then realized might as well do a whole load, since I purchased a bull float the finishing work should be a snap

Also did some work on the layout, not a lot but added another oddball building also put some smokestacks on a couple others

also ran trains a bunch yesterday evening, got this shot of the water feature:

still have some shoreline work to do (above) also trees are going in last probably not till next year

more later, Dave LASM

Good Morning!

I must be getting old! The holiday weekend was totally wasted on yard work and relaxation. Very nearly nil done in the hobby room, which is unusual for me on a holiday weekend.
Now, I feel bad about wasting the weekend away. It's my fault entirely.

Louis - I was feeling some joy when I read your mom asked for a cup-o-coffee, after her ordeal. Thoughts from Canada have gone her way, hoping for full recovery.

Fairly high winds have arrived here in the north. The leaves are falling, and I can hear the odd waste-can rolling around outside.
Seems like it's a good day to work away at the tedious and time consuming job of making 1/87 sidewalks.

Perhaps I'll have a photo of the sidewalk construction come tonight. The weekend was such a waste that I didn't even take a photo of anything.
Considering that fact, how about a photo of the crossing I built, that is the one I'm building the sidewalks to. The crossing is getting tested here, making sure a locomotive can get over it without problems.

Maybe, I've already posted that photo. I can't remember, and so what, anyway. At least it's a photo.

Coffee cup is empty, so I think I'll get on with the dogs walk, and then get to some sidewalk making.
Have a great day!

Good morning! Local farmers are starting to harvest corn and lima beans already. The cold snap along with a fairly prolonged draught has the crops pretty much ready for the thrasher.

There is a train show coming up the weekend after next about an hour East of here (Cambridge, Ohio). I may end up with a table. Tables are only $15, and I have a lot of structures and misc stuff to sell for cheap. I may just get a table and try to sell a bunch of stuff I'll probably never use.
It's Sunday only, 10:00-4:00 so not a huge time commitment. But then.... I'm not super motivated to sell stuff other than I know I have some money I'll need to part with in the next month or so when I get my locomotives with custom paint jobs.

Tom O': You are so right about that, Tom. There is a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips. I mostly use it to follow "the Hockey guy", but occasionally will search out assistance with a project. I'm more or less admitting I don't use the resource enough.

Speaking of mild, it's going up into the 70s today, through Thursday, then cooling off for the weekend.

I did make it down to the train room yesterday, but didn't stay long. I'll go back later today.

Actually had a good night's sleep on the recliner overnight. Didn't wake up until about 10" before the alarm at 0630. Really not the most comfortable place to sleep though. The advantage is that it takes less time for the body to acclimate to standing then walking, than it does getting out of bed.

Rangers - Tampa Bay on ESPN+ tonight, I'll probably skip the second (West Coast) game. Devils - Flyers Nationwide on ESPN+ Thursday. Something to look forward to. ;)

Dang it! I started to post this morning and had to do it over again as my trigger happy mouse left the page and when I hit back....lost what I typed!

So ya it was 38 degrees this morning. I am working from home today. I will be reviewing project financials for a few hours today. I hope to break away to do a few minor chores then poke my head in the train room today. It is supposed to get a high of 63 today. We shall see. It rained yesterday briefly and then late last nite and earlier this morning just enougk to make ya feel the dampness which I hate!

Yesterday on my way home from work, I saw 2 cool things I will share with ya! Here it has been hot air balloon season this month. Saw one and took a few pics. I always wanted to do this. It is on my bucket list. The other rhing I saw was a ring necked pheasant. He was struttin' and then I spooked him and he took flight for about 50 yards. I got pics of him in flight and struttin'. My phone camera did pretty good. Mind you I was shooting these pics on the fly from my truck on the road.....I had to be quick to get these shots.

I gotta go feed my lions Doc and Wyatt they're telling me their dish is empty. Ya'll have a good day and I will check in later.

Morning all,

Louis: Prayers for your mom and your family.

I was on earlier but didn't get a chance to post. Got my flu shot this morning, but not the booster. Seems everyone wants at least 60 days from your negative test before the give it to you. Wife drove behind me coming in as they started at 6:30 this morning. More points to apply toward a discount on next years insurance costs.

Currently 62° and partly cloudy. Massive rainfall of .02" overnight means our drought issues are over....NOT! Just enough to make the sidewalk wet and barely settle the dust for a couple of hours. We're nearing the record for the longest period without meaningful rainfall. May was too wet, and the rest of the summer way too dry. Oh yeah, high later today of 84°. A bit warm also for this time of year.

Tom O: Very well stated. Railroad labor is governed by the Railway Labor Act, which requires both sides to begin the negotiation process six months before the previous agreement expires. Negotiations can stretch out an additional three years, before an impasse can be declared. Then a Presidential Board is appointed to make recommendations, (Which can form the basis for a settlement). Railroads traditionally hold a tough line through the end of the process, in the hopes that congress will impose a favorable to management settlement. ( Congress usually implements the rejected contract, which is actually much more than the carriers are willing to concede, but not enough to satisfy the union labor, that hasn't seen a raise in three or four years.
I'm not sure what the unions are negotiating for this time around, but I think it has to do with working conditions. Maybe more time off? One of the reasons I left the Railroad is because your always there. Your almost never home. Your there Christmas, Thanksgiving, Fourth of July etc. In a past post Boris said, they've further tightened up the mark-off rules. I'm glad I left when I did,
George
