Good Morning All!
44F in Libby
54F in Keystone, SD

Crap, got to the MinuteMan silo but could not do the control bunker tour; need tickets. Website said we could do a self tour, but noooo. Tickets are out almost a year so I will find out when the train show in Livingston is or points East and set up a time sometime next summer. Talking with some of the folks at the launch bunker, they said don't miss it. There are still 200ish silo's still waiting patiently for some country to do something st00pid. Most are in Montana, Wyoming and Nebraska. Here is a pix through the glass of the launch bunker.

More later - give me a year.

Also, I thought that the next 2 would be fun stuff for somebody. I spied this grain silo about 5 years ago and figured I would get back to it. I29 near the Iowa and Missouri border.

When I spotted this the 1st time, the tree/bush was a ton smaller.

And one more for you Chessie fans! I64 just west of Charleston - was going down the road so a little blur...

Terry and I love a good Chicken Pot pie. I will ask the friends if they are aware I am not sure other then Easter if they ever use their own kitchen. They eat out all the time! Thanks Todd.

How much!

are these prices because it’s a top flight restaurant?
how much does abdicate burger fries and drink cost at say McDonald’s….
I pay 20 pound a kilo for ribeye steak 24 if grass fed.
McDonalds Big Mac meal which is a medium soda, Big Mac and fries is just under $10 in South Central Wisconsin. But the prices vary greatly all over the USA. I just checked the online menu pricing for pick up at our local Verona, Wi. McDonalds. In the last 3 years if we stopped on our travels at McD’s it was for using the restrooms and a breakfast sandwich or locally for a ice cream cone and a McFlurry. I am not sure I have had a 1/4 pounder or Big Mac in the last 5 years. The fries used to be the best and then they changed the cooking oils and IMO they are not eatable!

Tell Flo you want a “ham” steak. Next time she won’t have that befuddled look on her face. At least Mel knew!

welcome back, you have been gone too long
Thank you the woodburners are causing a lot of work.
4 wood burners = 4 rooms need sorting, removing old radiators, making good - fainting when I found one had no wall paper behind it this effects 2 walls that need a strip and repaint as it’s a corridor, furniture needs new home to keep the away from the heat distance that the effects other furniture a lot of furniture needing unpacking moving repacking, some space for work needs access doing all 4 at once was not the best thought out plant il do before and after pictures end of the month after work hopefully is finished, which is good as next month we have a visitor and I don’t want her arriving to a mess, plus I am omg can’t believe I amadmitting to this bomb proofing one room in case of a nuke, warning says 20 mins,so just moving stuff into place would be fun…not, and I do not want to look a nutter so it needs to be very subtle, I do not believe in bug out, but I do believe in bug in. FYI a polytunnel with the sides closed is enough to protect the soil if not blown open….water another matter totally….this is a very small issue while all the rest has to be done…I. May need a recipe. Book to use up corned beef and spam luckily I like both …grins….Iam more a cautious nutter than a total one….I am thinking a root cellar about now would be a good idea but it’s not a Brit thing…….where the sxxx I’ll hide the teslas……lol……
.…..and I like the idea of a ham steak, but was always confused by a hamburger that was actually beef. Well here at least.well cooked and crispy yum yum.
On the subject I store corned beef, spam, stewed steaks, potatoes, pease, carrots and onions all tinned, frankfurters make this list not healthy but can be eaten cold, water, canned drinks, fruit in fruit juice (fructose and sugar spikes tho) pasta rice which I freeze to kill weevil eggs for 7 days, pasta sauce - different flavours, tinned tomatoes - nice drinking with pepper or Worcester sauce , vodka optional, dried soups, tinned rice (yep more sugar) apple cider vinegar, iodine salt, spices, herbs, ghee, olive oil, multi vitamins, tinned mushrooms, flour also freezer 7 days, jerky, nuts,I don’t do biscuits or crackers unfortunately, shelf life is rubbish,I have tonnes of home canned fruit often honey not sugar but not healthy, imo, medical kit, so before I bore for britain who else has a bug out bug in fetish…..grins……
edit garage has really useful box’s and I have a trolley to roll them on so 20 mins is doable, I always buy spare whatever is cheap, so duvets pillows cases are grabbable, we have lilos for camping and a pump, the odd table to tremble under….omg I am so going to get ribbed over this.

Morning all,

52° and clear in Doo-Dah, supposed to get to 86°. Supposed to be 89° tomorrow and then they slowly drop until Friday, with a low of 41° and a high of 64°. Pollen is killing me right now. Can't wait to get the hard frost to kill it.

Felt different coming in this morning. I got in the door at 6:20 and have felt behind all morning. Had a server with issues after the update on Saturday, but doesn't affect business, so it waited until this morning. Dang I hate updates sometimes.

I know the wife will figure it out. There is much she'd like to do and some things she can now do. I know she'll get there. I just thought it was funny that she hadn't been done 48 hours and was already "bored".

Troy: Thanks for posting the menu. Wife and I rarely spend more than $30 for the 2 of us at a restaurant. Which reminds me, I still have a $30 gift card to Texas Roadhouse. Probably wait a bit before using it. Stuff will need to be budgeted for.

Goood morning all, a mild 56° in East Central Minnesota,

Grilled the Steak Sunday, turned out GREAT. We use firewood from the wood pile and have a simple grate in the side yard, it sits on 4 stones and I start the fire about 45 min in advance to get some nice wood coals. Probably Angus, however once the skin is off all bets are off (I can't remember what color that one was?)

Steak is cheap right now cause they are shipping all those drought distressed cows, or else people even too poor to buy a cheaper cut of beef, I think ours were $4.99 per pound, pretty lean and no bones.

Todd - I have seen one of those silos, the one with the tree growing out it, not the one with the missles.

Retirement - on my days off I am usually busy dawn to dusk with projects of my choosing, however try to relax some on Sundays and do some reflection Wife, on the other hand, is oftentimes bored and wants me to take her someplace and spend some money. How different we are! I do not like going places and entertaining. By the way, we have been married 27 years so not sure how that figures. Something to do with the way we were raised, some deep ingrained thought patterns

AT least I will not be bored in retirement.

Patrick - we ate breakfast out last Monday morning, I had the day off. Cost $30 and was nothing special. You must have some real inexpensive restaurants where you live. If we eat at Taco Bell, however, we do get by for less than $15 and get pretty much as much as we can eat.

Weather - extreme fluctuations have been going on since the dawn of man. Why do we have to call it Climate Change and make everyone buy an electric car because of it? absurd.

Alan - way to go with the winterizing. I will be servicing my truck and mower soon, I think I will have the rider out once more. I use the STABIL gas treatment rather than draining the gas, have had good luck with that product.

here is a pic of a couple of my old trucks,

start of a hard set of months. My daughter, our youngest, is a freshman in HS. She goes to a charter school across the valley but for sports purposes competes with the local HS since her charter school doesn't offer a HS interscholastic sports program. My daughter tried out for the swim team and made it (any kid who swims club should make it).

M and W they have a 6am, "dryland" where they do weights, aerobic, and other workouts for one hour.
T and Th they have a 5am to 6:30am swim practice and the local rec center (12-13 min away). This district doesn't have pools at the school but the district just north of us has a pool at every school.

There are also 3 afternoon practices a week. Always Friday, but alternating M/W and T/Th. The kids who attend the school also (optionally) have a swim class that mets the "missing" 2 days as last period. Since my daughter is not at this school as a student she gets the 3 afternoon classes. This week that means an hour and a half swim before school and 2 hours afterwards. Next week it will mean some sort of swimming, morning or afternoon, every day. During the HS season this replaces club swimming and practice which was daily for 90 min in the afternoon.

So I had to get up 75 min early to take her and then go pick her up. Hard to get up and going earlier than I am used to though I did go to bed earlier than I have been (we all did). Trying to make it a habit for the early to bed, early to rise regime.

But right now I am hating life... She, on the other hand, said she had no problem getting up and feels fine after almost an hour of exercise. Since the wife had to be at work by 7am, my son will take her to school this morning as I have the morning work meeting routine.

Stabil pretty good but I have been using Seafoam for 35 years. I put it in everything from mowers, my boat, tractor, truck and chainsaws etc. It never fails to to work or start year round. At 8.97 a 16oz can it never fails me. Some places like NAPA you can get by the gallon for a lot less.

Good morning from downtown “Historic” Dubuque, Iowa. 50f degrees heading into the 70’s but we will be heading East to Morris, Il. where it should hit mid70’s. We will stay with the friends over night and head home while my sister might stay for a few days.

While driving along the Mississippi River is always fun, the colors have not really changed south of Minneapolis/St. Paul. 10-20% at most and not even that much in Iowa. I don’t expect any difference traveling east into Illinois. Normally we would avoid the highways and take the backroads but both girls want to get to see the friends so I80 it will be. An easy hop down to Davenport, Iowa and pick up I80 for a under 3 hours drive. No planned stops but we oldsters know how things are.

I was asked if I would help him with his HO layout as he can’t solder too easily anymore at 80 and this newly minted 70 year old loves to solder (not) and I said sure.

The ladies are ready, so…

Amazing what we do for our kids and grandkids.

I used to take the daughter and son to hockey practice at 5:30AM twice a week for him and 8:30PM for her. When the daughter turned 16 she passed her driving exam and that day a car was waiting for her at home. She then had to take herself and brother to those practices. She was great about it, but maybe that’s why they barely talk to each other now.

Good Morning again!

Found this place last night. Keystone SD. Less than $100 for small cabin, had prime Buffalo for dinner. Cute little place. Now you have a reason to get to Mt Rushmore! Took the pix this am so I would not disturb the dinner folks last night. They are seasonal, closing on the 8th, won't open again until after Mothers day. Didn't do big pix this time, click on the images below to make them bigger!

Off to the Lizzard place then Missoula.

Later

Good Morning All. Clear and 54°, more of the same pleasant weather for a while. Still no rain in sight.

I spent most of yesterday getting back into my routine at home. Well it's hardly a routine since it changes all of the time but it is normal. Found the horrid smell in the fridge and tossed a cabbage into the compost pile; unpacked and did laundry and walked the estate. I picked a handful of tomatoes, bell peppers and Jalapenos before irrigating the garden; and then looked at the pile of firewood that still needs to be split. Today is a trip to town to pick up the pool cover that was delayed. I put the old one with holes on before leaving, I will put the new one on over it rather than removing it. Need a few groceries as well.

I meant to mention that while on vacation, I had the opportunity to visit a Hobby Town that heavily advertised model trains. Boy, that was a waste of time. I had read before that some of their locations were good for hobbyists and some weren't. This place was horrible in all departments besides trains. The train aisle was maybe 15' on one side of the aisle and had mostly Bachmann track. The whole store had maybe three dozen cans of spray paint and under two dozen bottles of Testor's and Badger paints.

Substance testing at our place of business while I was there was rather random in itself. That is except for truck drivers and forklift operators. Some years random testing was in the budget, others it was not. Post accident was mandatory whether the individual was at fault or not. I had a janitor who was hit with debris when a forklift operator dropped a crate of glass, and he tested positive for cocaine! I had to terminate him but wondered how he could afford cocaine on a janitor's wages!

A glorious day out in the train shed yesterday. I ran trains which I hadn't done in over a week. I also sat at the workbench and made the second food trailer from the Walther's kit, this one is "Dos Hermanas Tacos". In English, Two Sisters Tacos. I will not bore you with the build pictures as they are the same as the BBQ place built last month.
IMG_2083.JPG

I am looking for appropriate figures to add to the interior, I may have to paint some new ones.
I took other pictures but posted them over in the Santa Fe Sunday and the Under Construction Industrial Building threads.

Ken (D&J) - Looks like your prediction regarding the Washington/Dallas game was a good one.
Tom O - Sale or no sale, unless the store is in the Austin area, most of stores in Texas wouldn't dare try to sell Waygu Beef!
Patrick/Dave B - I haven't been bored a single day since retiring 7 years ago. Except maybe a day or two while on vacation. My wife on the other hand seems to be bored more often than not and she just retired this year. She wants to combat this by "going somewhere and spending money". This talk reminds me of my last boss at work who unretired three times, saying that he could only go fishing only so many times a week. He never planned for retirement and had nothing to do. He also had a wife who is 15 years younger then him and wasn't ready to retire and join him. Patrick's wife has different circumstances as this is an unplanned retirement.
Chad - Seems like you now have a full schedule.

Today would have been Stevie Ray Vaughan's 68th birthday.
Everybody have a great day.
