April 1, 1965, I had been aboard the Coast Guard cutter Point Caution for 6 months. We were given orders to take our cutter to New Orleans for deployment to Vietnam. We were polled, and I volunteered to go. Four 82 foot cutters were loaded aboard the Aloha State for shipment to Vietnam. At the last minute the Coast Guard decided only rated persons would be sent, meaning E4 and above. I was E3. One of the catastrophes during the Coast Guard deployment was the friendly fire from the Air Force on the Point Welcome, which was one of the 4 sent aboard the Aloha State. Only the heroic actions of Chief BM Patterson many more lives would have been lost.

Sorry for the poor pic, the Point Caution secured aboard the Aloha State

I had heard, but not confirmed, that the Point Caution took a round through her hull, but no one was injured.

In all, something like 26 82 footers were sent to Vietnam, later given to the South Vietnamese government and later scraped.

George/Louis- Good luck with the faucets.
That did not go good Curt. I had a hard time soldering on a new brass nipple. I'm going to guess is was the old flux I was using because when I bought flux that was made for silver solder it worked fine. I did not get a chance to put the wall back though, maybe tomorrow. I bought one brass 1/2 to 1/2 nipple $13.95. For another plumping project I needed 1/2 to 3/8 nipple that was $24.50 Smaller but more money. I did manage to get the shower working but I'm a little poorer.

Why do they call it the "World" series when the teams are only from the US? Seems it should be "National" series.

Well, the best from around the world come to play in MLB -- Shohei Otani etc. from Asia, half of Cuba and S / C America, etc. So while the teams are situated in the US (and a token team in Canada) the players do come from around the (baseball playing) world, including Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, and other C/S American states I believe...

Well, howdy there internet people, and those of us confused by sportsball of any kind

It's Troy again...

tonight's the night!

heading down to Three Rivers Brewing Company to get dinner with the wife, and she said I could get a bottle of the Engine 765 Bourbon.

Here's a pic of what $2 of that bottle price goes to support:

In other news, with a case of the Coof from two weeks ago, I've been struggling to write. The week of it was understandable, due to the panic of "OMG I tested POSITIVE" (at least I wasn't preggers, but still...)

Been struggling to think of what comes next. Usually, when I hit the 2/3rds mark in a book, I have a good idea of how the rest is going to go... not this time.

Near as I can tell, the Coof, even a very mild case like I had, still impacts the thinker. I didn't have severe mental fog, but the subconscious took a lot longer to fill in the blanks of the book's plot than I'm used to.

Fortunately, I woke up at 3:30 this morning (not fortunate for the hour of waking) with most of the plot finally congealed. I gave up, wandered down to the writing cave and put notes on the last eight chapters, then went back and laid the clues for the real perp. It changed from who I suspected was the perp. That rarely happens.

And, I'll announce that neither Willie nor Smudge are the perp. Of course, they don't appear in this book, so that was a safe assumption.

Back to the writing cave. I might actually finish this book in a few days.

Morning all,

I'm hungry this morning, so get me what Smudge is having, except I'll take a coffee. Thanks Francine!

38° and clear with the high today expected of 67°. Weather guessers have put some moisture chances in the forecast, but most of it is expected to stay in Oklahoma and south. Most of the next week to 10 days expected to be seasonal temps (Lows upper 30's to low 40's, Highs upper 60's to mid 70's).

Should I figure my vehicle road crossing points or work them over any ballast? I think they'd lay on top of it ok, and then if I changed my mind later I wouldn't have to reballast.

Should have more help today as only the boss has let us know he's still out ill.
