Thanks Karl!Looks great Ken!
Thanks Karl!Looks great Ken!
Thanks OB-Ken, it proved to be worth the time I spent shooting my ~dozen preceding 'dud' shots LOL!Beautiful shot IB Ken!
Thank you Sherrell, it's one of my favorite scenes on the layout. Ever since I was a kid, I always loved seeing crossbucks in otherwise plain settings - evidence that trains could be seen at that spot. So of course I had to model some of those.Actually so bad that they WERE FUNNY TOO - on the corny side, lol!
KEN - Just an Awesomely pretty shot (I saved it).
Thank you Willie! I'll try to get trains in all of the layout photos I shoot from now on, wherever possible.Good Morning All. Looks like clear and 52°, still really strong and gusty winds from the NW today, increasing in velocity for a few more hours before diminishing before sunset. Temperature will then drop into the lower 40's tonight. That will for sure mean starting the first fire of the season in the wood-burning heater.
No issues on the grocery trek yesterday, although I did notice some low inventory in spots around the store. I actually believe that it relates more to a labor shortage there than to anything actually being in short supply. In areas that vendors take care of stocking, like soda, bread and alcohol, the shelves were full. Mask compliance was still about 50% even though our governor has outlawed mask mandates. Entirely voluntary; I wore mine in the center aisles and the checkout line. The rest of the store is very wide open and social distancing is easy.
Y'all are just really awesome with the complements on the Ramone's Storage & Salvage structure build. I'm not sure at all if I can follow up with another one as good. Thanks for the comments and likes regarding yesterday's posting; Patrick, Karl, Guy, Sherrel, Steve J, OB Ken, Tom O, Christian, James, Gary, Hughie, Joe, Curt, Rick, IB Ken.
Let me try the Friday Special this morning Flo, buckwheat pancakes with a pile of sausage patties.
I don't really have a lot to show from my adventures in the train shed yesterday. I started by adding ground cover to the area between the main line and the Ramone's parking area.

Then I moved over to the workbench to fabricate a fence to put there, something I might refer to as a "cable barrier" like this.

I make mine by first cutting toothpicks into about a 4' scale length and then drilling a .020" hole in one end. Then I string a length of .010" wire through them. Here's what I ended up with yesterday.

Today I'll spray it all with some gray primer and drill post holes every 15' apart for mounting. You get the idea from there.
Patrick - I hated that Masonite siding that was originally on my house. I replaced it all with "Smart Siding" from HD with a 50 year warranty. At the same time I wrapped the house with some kind of plastic wrap that I can't remember the name of. Tyveck I think.
Guy - Don't abandon us just as you restart working on the train room. Pictures of your progress are always welcome.
Tom O - I haven't asked about how long the health professionals are supposed to be visiting. Staci, the nurse who visits twice a week, probably will stop once the blood draws are no longer necessary. Nathan, the upper body PT, I just don't know. Heather the lower body PT will return in mid-December after the replacement surgery. She really isn't needed as my wife did that rehab mostly by herself with my able assistance after the previous surgery. As long as Medicare is paying for them, I don't really care much. I consider it a pay-back for all of those years that I donated part of my salary to them...Still paying them premiums!!! It's not like an entitlement!
Hughie -
Thanks for the comment. I have improved cloud painting in my opinion and I will soon be adding more elsewhere.
IB Ken - Very nice scene, especially with the train in it this time.
Enjoyed the ghost/spook jokes yesterday, don't have any myself that aren't dirty.
Everybody have a great day.
Willie: Wife had to take care of some business involving the MIL, and I tagged along. On the way back, we stopped at the local ShopRite to get some ShopRite label Prune Juice. None, Nada, also Name Brand was in short supply, along with Gatorade, and other sports drinks. Place was crowded, with about 80% unmasked... We were just at the Ack-a-me on Monday, and they were well stocked except for meat, which is common for a Monday. I suspect that there is a labour slow down at the ShopRite. I heard they are hiring, but are unwilling to pay more than scale, like some of the competitors have. Next stop, Stop and Shop to pick up six prescriptions, (and now prune juice). Considering that my med renewals were ordered @ 0915 on 10/27, one was not ready yet. (It was a pre-packaged 90 day bottle, no need to do more than print the label. This pharmacy has declined significantly within the past year. Store was well stocked, but deserted...not a good sign.I actually believe that it relates more to a labor shortage there than to anything actually being in short supply.
Curt- Thanks for looking.Mikey- Very nice photos.
Yep. I'm 64 but in my mind I'm only 10 or so.Christian- I had a layout like yours, when I was 9. ( I'm a little older now.)
Christian, I like your layout! I think you are off to a great start.
Love the water feature with the logs, the light capture on the ‘water’ really worksGot back to work on the On30 layout again yesterday afternoon. Spent most of my time gluing down more details like lumber stacks.
Another member hooked up the lighting in the barrel factory. Here are a couple shots.
I also spread some sawdust around the sawmill which changes the look of the place.
Please excuse the terrible photographer.
It was worth the effortGood evening Shop Dwellers!
Many thanks to each of you who've either "clicked the button" or commented on my Brook Park photo [as of 5:20pm EDT]: Joe, Dave, Jaz, Hughie, CHRISTIAN, chad, Steve-J, Guy, Karl, OBKen, Willie, Sherrell. Hope I didn't miss anybody...
I setup my tripod and DSLR and spent ~90 minutes trying to get a trackside photo that would show the flashing crossbucks, structures, and the passing train. But the foreground buildings (the 7-Eleven and Dairy Queen) kept obscuring the view of the train. Finally when I tried the "mountaintop" perspective instead of trackside, I was able to fit in everything I wanted.
Tonight I'm going to take a break from photography and try to setup the Lokprogrammer that has been sitting in its box for several months, so I can get rid of the horrible-sounding "default" horn on my lone sound-equipped F7A. I'm hoping I can make it sound like a Nathan M-3, same as most B&O prototype F units had during my modeling era.
It's still pouring down rain over my region, flood warnings have already gone out for a dozen towns. Glad my house sits on high ground! According to the NWS, things should start clearing up at ~8pm.
Good Night - and have a Pleasant Tomorrow!
You still do stupid stuff, just slower...Yep. I'm 64 but in my mind I'm only 10 or so.![]()
