TomO. Whereas you are not allowed in the kitchen, I on the other hand will not have anyone in the kitchen with me; unless they are my assistant (the grandchildren). Adults are always 'in the way'.
I'm right there with you. I have to cook alone. My wife and I get along perfect in most every aspect. The cooking we are night and day different. I'm a clean as you go type, and she just piles the stuff in the sink till the end.

Drives me nuts!

Morning all,

Currently 35° and clear going for a high of 57°. Friday it starts going downhill and some wintery mix or outright snow by Saturday afternoon. Figures, that 's when we're headed to the away daughter's house for Thanksgiving.

I was in one of the big Kroger affiliates yesterday and noticed...no mincemeat pies. Not even any in the frozen section, or even a place on the shelf for them. Figures that I have a craving for one. I just didn't want to do one from scratch.

Gas locally finally fell below $3.00, except for the small town I live in. Wichita and all the surrounding towns, gas is $2.99 to $2.49, except the town I live, where it's still $3.19. Gas all comes from the same refinery 8 miles away...I know, why ask why?

We're having Tex\Mex buffet tomorrow with the local kids. I'll be cooking when I get home. Today is moving way too slow due to tomorrow being a holiday. That's always the case before the time off.

Holiday Greetings fellow cheifs, painters, those sports pros and cons, and those who watch from far, far away!

I'm in KARL's boat this morn. Just could not sleep - stemming from a project intp the late evening - and my mind started wandering and things/stuff just kept piling on. I managed to watch two full length movies from 12 to 4 am - so, I am late to work today!
The Spousal Unit will be in full mode today as we are having upwards of 15 plus tomorrow.
I already can plan on 2-3 trips to the store for missing items, or ... I don't have enough!
I just try and stay out of harms way. Did I mention that she is of Italian lineage and is a wonderful cook.

It's a beautiful day out with not a cloud in sight and not a leaf stirring. Supposed to reach 80-F today, and if my brain is somewhat engaged, that's 27-C for most of the world?

FLO - Good morning - I have a "hankering" for a piece of Pecan pie this morning - got any?

Crosse and Blackwell mincemeat pie filling. It is usually found in the baking isle with other pie fillings. One jar makes one pie.

Pillsbury pie crust. in the refrigerated section usually near the bisquits and or butter.

For less than $10 you have a fresh baked Mincemeat Pie. Once you get them home the pie will be ready in under an hour. My Mom said they were better than any ready made pie you can buy.

You can even add a little rum to the filling if you like. My Mom did not like the rum added.

You are a smart man!

All I do is roast and carve the turkey. And watch football! I almost forgot, I cook the sauerkraut. It is already cooking in the crock pot. My Mom always cooked it on Wednesday and set it outside overnight and cooked it again on Thanksgiving Day. My Mom made great sauerkraut! So I do the same.

My wife is Hungarian and also a wonderful cook, we are a lucky guys, thank God.

I'm sure my wife could roast and carve the turkey. But I always have 22-25+lb turkeys, they are too heavy. She is not much bigger than the turkey!

I bought two more Turkeys!

On the way home this morning my wife mentioned "we should have bought that fruitcake from Giant" My little Angel seldom ever asks for anything so off to Giant we go!

I also picked up a 13" chocolate chip cookie with a beautiful turkey decoration in the middle. For my grandson when he comes on Friday, I hope. He told me on the phone he wants to watch the Jets and Dolphins game with me on Friday. He and I are both sad that we won't be together on Thanksgiving Day. It's the first time we have not been together on Thanksgiving. I told him we will have our own Thanksgiving Day on Friday, complete with NFL football!

Giant is the store offering Shady Brook Farms frozen turkeys for $0.37/lb. if you spend $25. I can blink an eye and spend $25 in a grocery store. Between the fruit cake and huge cookie, I already spent $30. I can't pass this deal up! Now I have six turkeys 22+lb. each in addition to the 23lb. Butter Ball turkey we are having tomorrow.

I will be that way tonight when I get in there. Bread making at wake up tomorrow.

Since 1/2021 I have made at most 10 loaves of bread. I used to do that per week! I was talked into this by the daughter last Sunday to make her bread bowls of sourdough, pumpernickel and dark rye for her party dips. Then one of her neighbors texted asking if I’d have any extra. Went from 4 loves to 9 and I told the daughter to stop telling her friends I am making bread again. 12 is the plan and about max for the kitchen stoves

I am worst then Terry though, don’t even come in the kitchen when I am making bread. I at least can visit her when called upon. I don’t ask for taste tasters!

Good Morning All. It's clear here and 34° this morning. Frost is just beginning to form on the cars, but not on the ground anywhere. The granddogs raced out when I opened the door earlier, suddenly stopped, quickly did their business and raced back onto the porch to be let in. I guess that they didn't hear me last night when I told them it would be colder today. They also didn't notice that I had started a fire in the wood-burner before bed! Should reach 60° today and 66° tomorrow for Thanksgiving. The NWS has inserted rain into Saturday night's forecast, that wasn't there yesterday. Another cold front hits before dawn Sunday. And that's my weather.

Today is the annual day where we ask "what were we doing 60 years ago?", when we heard the news of the Kennedy assassination. That is if you were alive at the time. I was at lunch recess at school (7th grade) in Dallas Texas, and when the boys returned to the classroom, all of the girls who were gathered around the TV set were crying. The mothers from the Ladies Society at our Catholic Church/school had volunteered to serve lunch at the reception that he was headed for.

The wind yesterday was biting, and I had to break out the blue jeans and sweatshirt to do outdoor tasks; I didn't do many, but I did mow for about 45 minutes around the train shed. Instead I did holiday preparation stuff inside. Today, I will prepare 4 lbs of Rutabagas to take to the family dinner gathering tomorrow. It's a traditional holiday vegetable, but I don't know how I was assigned that one since I had never made them before. It's actually easier than mashed potatoes, so I am not complaining.

A productive day out in the train shed yesterday. I painted the sidewalk on the bar.View attachment 177132
I had to make a new roof for it, since the old one that I removed was a scale 1' too narrow. Old one on top of the new unpainted one.

That's it for now, as I will take two days off for the holiday.

Curt - I am looking forward to finally seeing pictures of your current project.
Louis - You're worse than me when it comes to turkey sales. Four of them!! This year Kroger isn't giving them away for free with the $25 purchase. Last year I got three.

I read an interesting theory yesterday regarding the current rise in the Stock Market. This fellow claims that it is all artificially driven by a few institutional investors who are trying to make the current president's economic plan look good to the American public. Hmmmh! I'll take advantage of it, even though current grocery, fuel, utility and housing costs are considerably up from three years ago.

Everyone have a great day, and Happy Thanksgiving to all in the USA.
Similar to what was done to the stock market in the previous regime. I am so glad Terry has a stay the course attitude and makes changes when she feels warranted. I would be making daily reactionary adjustments and losing…

I think the same that gasoline prices go Up or down depending on how the how Big Oil is reacting to what a president does or doesn’t do

I feel your pain! I’ve already been to the store once already and probably once more before this is all over. Top off the fact, the store was a zoo!

We have already planned take out for supper tonight. No way we’re cooking dinner! 🤣
The grandson is 10 today. He picked a Japanese Restaurant for his celebration dinner. He was not given the 5 Guys choice he picked the last 4 years

Enjoy your take away

Bread.

Grandma would bake bread. Have them around the hearth of the coal fire to rise. A few at first. Then the family wanted some. Then friends asked her to bake a bread bun. Eventually there were twelve bread buns around the hearth, plus a little one for me (because I was her helper).

For all I watched her bake I cannot bake a loaf.

Off to make dinner.

Bread is simple, but not easy to make!

I haven't made bread in years. I always did it by hand and my hands are not up to it anymore. We have a Kitchen Aid mixer with a bread attachment I have not yet tried.

We buy frozen bread dough that is exceptionally good and easy on my hands.

For Thanksgiving we have frozen dinner roll dough. It's the first time we bought them. I'll let you know how it is.
