Good morning Santa Fe et all, my apologies for being absent and I missed you all for sure. I was just really busy the last month with work and on weekends the last month. Working and running busy on the weekends and the time flies by. Like some of you, I caught the sinus infection as well and still have it. Just popped in on the odd occasion. Getting colder here now slowly so pulled my train station out to work on some more and will move down to the layout again soon. Have to fix the greenhouse and hot tub today, more wind storm damaged (never stops anymore), put out Xmas lights and clean my fish tank, hopefully catch some football….
Glad you are better and posted. Welcome back Gary

Good Morning All. Mostly clear and 45°, probably reaching 60° later today. Yesterday's high was 51° so there wasn't much spread. There was 1.95" in the rain gauge at sunset last night and I don't believe that it rained any more after that. It's been so dry around here and that rain fell over 16 hours that it all soaked in with no runoff, although I need to check my pond after daybreak.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I started detailing some stuff in and around the latest project scene. I added a bench and figures in front of the Antiques Barn for starters.

Yep! That's a cast on Asa's forearm. Gotta add some details to figures sometimes.
Then I started a shed to place over by Fred & Reds. This recently purchased Walther's kit has several. I am using the smallest.

Rather simple and easy for starters.

The roof is completed over in the spray booth and I will paint the rest next. I selected some trees from a batch that I made last month, and studied placement, but haven't stared that yet.

Swal - So how is the new bathroom project coming? Are you doing it yourself or contracting it out, or a combination of both?
Dave B - Haven't bought cereal or milk in many years, but if eggs and fresh produce are any indication, then prices have skyrocketed. Eggs locally are double what they were a year ago.
Christian - Sad to read about Iris.
Ken (D&J) - That was probably a smart move on the parking the Tesla. It's too bad that the Kia experience wasn't good for you.
Patrick - I always keep a very thick folded bath towel around to kneel on for when I do repair jobs. In summer, I can use regular knee pads. I don't really have a problem bending them, just getting up off the floor!
Terry -
If you can't find a post you made on Wednesday, it's probably cyber-ashes.
I can't even remember what I posted Wednesday. Was it Smudge's blonde joke?
Are you officially retired or just between jobs. I know that you posted something a few months back about moving closer to your son and getting a better paying job there.
Alan - I still have probably two dozen cars left with McHenry couplers. What a failed experiment that was for me. I have used my freight car database to identify which ones they are, but it isn't easy locating that "mineral red or brown ATSF covered hopper" from the over 135 on the layout! I actually mostly find them when there is a coupler failure somewhere.

Besides being the first Sunday of Advent, today could have been Jimi Hendrix's 80th birthday if he hadn't been so self destructive. RIP

Everybody have a great day.

Hello from what should be a dreary miserable weather day. The high yesterday was 54f degrees and gorgeous. Today 41 is the professional weather guessers number. Everywhere I look online says a Wintery mix at 7AM, which in Wisconsin means trouble. But it’s almost 7:45 and zippo outside. Rain then sleet then snow make for lousy driving conditions. If we go anywhere today it will be to the hockey rink at 10AM for the grandson’s game. Because of my crutches I believe I am staying home. Beside his paternal grandfather and step grandmom will be there. Let them have the spotlight with the grandkids.

I finished the number by number framework plan yesterday for the new slot track. The SIL and a neighbor, in the neighbors‘s shop should have the framework cut by Packer time tonight. Cut from 1/2“ plywood 7 ply that the 2 big box stores here no longer carry. Overkill at 3” wide but better then not strong enough. Knowing those 2 they will cut enough for 2 tracks at least. Both grandkids yesterday just wanted alone time, no entertaining needed after the 1st hour they were here. So I had some desk and computer time.

When the daughter and hubby came to get the kids last night, they thankfully have smartly decided, the slot track will not be attempted for Christmas. Without saying it, they want me to do the majority of the track work! But, they realized that it’s not me being the bottleneck. It is the laser cutting of the roadbed. The daughter is part of a group of crafters, she was going to call in some favors to help out. Because we moved away from Christmas, she can ask another time. Her 2 machines are not enough to have material by 12/15 to install by Christmas but can by say 1/15. I did try with Terry’s help last night working at my paint bench with a few pieces of road bed I have extra to sand them. I can work there as the track strip is 2.75“ wide for lane separation and the aprons are 3.75” inside and outside by 22” long. We laminate 3 pieces to join the lengths of pieces and the depth of the slot we need after sanding. I cannot stand very long so the big workbench counter is too high for me to work at even with the bar stools to sit. So the major bottlenecks are material cutting, sanding and the install. Thankfully they figured it out themselves and I am not the bad guy. I will in my spare time start to put together the pit tracks. 5 lanes converging to 2 is complicated. Next to trains though I love the slot cars especially since DCC was added to slot tracks.

The grandson did work about 30 minutes on his decoder install. He solders very well and of course his eyesight at 9 is pretty good. He has patience too. The decoder buddy IMO really eases soldering for sound and lights. A couple weeks ago he soldered the pickup wires and it worked then, yesterday it got sound. He will be back Monday for a couple hours. The frame only with sound moves around well. After school tomorrow we tackle putting the railings back on the diesel after the daily homework reading assignment is done. Both grandkids will be here after school Monday, Tuesday and Friday this week.

The grandson and I tried to take a ATV out as I tried to ignore the orders not to drive. After 5 minutes I turned around. I never realized how involved the knee is working the accelerator and brake. Terry then drove the 4 of us around for over an hour. We had fun. The day really was nice weather wise.

Lots to do around here.

Good morning all, we have 26 F and the sun is shining. Lots of the snow melted still the ground is mostly covered with an inch or two.

Christian - I like the music with your video. I have heard the song but can't put my finger on the name of it

Willie - thanks for posting the pic of your fence. I painted mine with the light gray then used some india ink water solution to fade it down a little, would have to get really close to see the grain that comes out.

I was able to finish this yesteray, used JB weld to adhere to the layout, much easier than drilling all those holes which was my first plan

Found this caboose in my stuff, I remember buying it on ebay it is really clean

Today we are heading to Wife's daughters about a two hour drive. I have tomorrow off to recuperate.

Ran the train a bunch yesterday, got in the habit of cleaning track frequently an wheels also, really helps on performance, slow speeds, no stalling, train parked here for overnight

thats all for now will be travelling today so have a GOOD and GODLY day those of you that believe

Well today was a total bust, got nowhere near the Warley Railway Show at the NEC in Birmingham, in fact I never left home.
Before I was going to leave I thought I'd wire in a buck, (it's two wires, how long can it take), a lot longer that I imagined, due to the fact I blew it up (on the DCC wiring forum).
Finding out why that happened (I'm still not 100% sure) and trying to find another fault on a separate circuit that I didn't know I had (the two aren't related, I might add) until this morning took up most of my day, not intentionally, just when I get a fixated on something I tend to forget to check my watch, by the time I finished it was too late to go. Ah well another day in paradise.

Sounds like good coffee!

I buy any 100% Columbian i can get for about $3/lb. The last I bought was Maxwell House at $3.99/lb.

No point in me freezing it, I drink a lot of coffee! Two sometimes three, 12cup pots a day.

As I write this my wife is making me a 12oz cup of Tasters Choice Classico instant coffee. They were out of Tasters Choice Columbian. My "night cap".

Good night, Everybody!
Blimey I can’t drink 2 normal coffees in the evening as I then can’t sleep,I even have to watch the caffeine in the 90 percent chocolate with those coffees, I use Nescafé add ginger powder Keto brown sugar a sort of ginger bread option

It used to be that I had to quit coffee about noon, or there was not any sleep at night. After driving truck, it does not seem to matter anymore if I drink it just before hitting the sleeper. As to the coffee - Hot, Cold, day old cold or anything in between worked.

Later

Afternoon All,

Started out with a couple small chores then went to the train room. I placed the new gas station on the layout and hooked it up electrically, after that I ran 3 locomotives in my run schedule. I have one more Bachmann BF-16 A-A set to run then they all have been done. Went to Wally World. It was obviously busy but what got me was nobody was paying attention to anyone else with their carts.

Terry- Congrats. What a awesome cake! Best wishes with whatever your plans are.

Louis- Another nice car.

Gary- It's great to see you posting again.

Willie- Nice scene.

Dave- Very nice pictures.

The new gas station (lighted). Unfortunately it sits with the back view facing the walk aisle.

I hope everyone has a good night.
