Good morning all, no overnight snow first day in 8 days we did not have new snow on the ground !

Flo - I will have 2 eggs over medium, hash browns, 4 bacon, and coffee. Thanks!

gearing up for Thanksgiving company they are coming over Thursday big meal will be chicken, white and sweet potatoes, bean casserole, some leafy salad. Cranberries and hot apple cider as well. Company is bringing pies.

Thinking about getting lights on the tree, we have one natural tree 100' from the house makes a great Christmas tree, it is alive so don't need to put anything in the house, no mess for me to clean up. Will string it with multi colored lights and plug it in every night after Thanksgiving.

Patrick - I would like to see a pic of that tree with the decorations. Little engine should not be a problem I had one seems the biggest issue is its small size and keeping good contact with the track for current pickup

Todd - wasn't aware of paper mills out west, I understood the water requirements were so great they had a hard time staging them

back later, Dave LASM

Good morning fellow modelers. So. Central Wisconsin is trending towards warmth today. Should be a great day for a walk outside. I do dislike the treadmill intensely.

I ended up missing both the grandson’s hockey games. He debuted on defense and his grandmom said he plays well back here. I was planning on missing the Badger game at 2pm but went because Terry could not get a replacement to go along. The nose bleed happened 3 times yesterday and was not helpEd by the dry walking to the and from the car yesterday afternoon. My wife’s friend and my Endocrinologist said to stop taking the daily baby aspirin for this week. I already called the Clinic appointment line to see my GP but probably will end up with a PA and that’s fine. The #3 Badgers handled easily the #1 Minnesota lady hockey team in a very rough and chippy game. So with Saturday’s official tie the Gophers, IMO should no longer be ranked #1. Badgers though lost their goalie a couple minutes into the game. That put Saturday’s mistake prone goalie into the game. She turned in a performance yesterday that made you wonder where she was Saturday?

The son in law asked to see me this afternoon to discuss the JOB! I am a bastard, told him before noon or after supper as between noon and 5 I am busy the next 3 days. 1st time he ever commented about my “playing” with trains. We will now meet Friday at 7 AM.

I received an email yesterday asking why I schedule a time to work on the Papermill commission and so religiously track the time? On the rare times I am commissioned for a structure or scene I give an estimate but billing is by the hour. I track everything which is easy for me to do as my whole career I had to account for my time. Either to my bosses or because it had become ingrained to myself. Before I leave the train room I note whatever I did even running a train for 10 minutes in a computer journal. I have a tendency to wander so tracking time keeps me focused. Weathering though is per car, generally $25 per car.

Per my client I will be getting some packages via USPS today of detail items he wants used. Unexpected but fine. He also sent an email of a couple changes he wants. Mainly changing the shape of the 30”x 88” module. Right now it’s a rectangle, he would like it irregularly shaped! This is why I generally do not do commissioned scenes, the changes.

This weekend and again this morning I will work on my layout. I want to finish the new mainline rail through the paper mill, about 10’ more. Evil thoughts of changing my paper mill paint scheme have entered my consciousness. That would be more major and time consuming then this now crazy idea of switchingbthe main track from code 70 to 83. I have lots of great ideas that turn out to be not the smartest thing to do. Color scheme change maybe another one.

enjoy the day

In my line of work changes warrant and activate revision charges ;) Tracking your time is great! Also an agreed description of work as a milestone for the original take off or intent. Deviation from that...... ya that's another thing. Tracking projects is what I do in my profession so what you are doing is definitely on par for tracking your time! Good luck with this project, this should be very interesting and I will be following this.

Hope you feel better and get the nose bleed under control! Take care of yourself! Oh as for the SIL saying "you're playing with trains" he is jealous because he doesn't have that kind of life style of priority LOL To each his own. Do you, always!

Welp, Howdy there internet peeps, and late risers like me.

Getting my internal clock reset is taking a bit. Got it to swing too far in the opposite direction from Vegas.

And, if I get up late, I try to ignore social media and get into wording the words. I just began a new book this morning, and need to get the first chapter rolling ASAP so I can get the main characters of the mystery figured out.

TOM O: My wife has suffered from nosebleeds all of her life. What works for her:
  • Humidity. I have a whole house Aprilaire on the furnace, but still run three cool mist humidifiers
  • she uses an aloe moisturizing spray in the nostrils daily. Keeps a saline spray (cheaper and smaller) for travel times.
  • when it's dead of winter, she'll use a cotton swab to coat her nostrils with petroleum gelly. Sounds gross, but it helps.
Unfortunately, once they start in the late fall, she's in damage control all winter.

If you get a gusher, it sounds weird, but a tampon can help. I laughed at the thought, but Adam Savage of Mythbusters posted a pic to his instagram back when he was filming the show. Being in California wasn't bad, but spending time in some of the desert locations gave him problems. When one happened, he'd go sit in a vehicle with a new tampon up his nose.

Also, since most of the authors from the convention are back home, I'm seeing a LOT of "Ugh! Tested positive!" and they don't mean they're expecting a baby any time soon.

If you attend anything highly populated, expect to be exposed.

Fortunately, my bout last month, and the new bivalent shot seem to be helping me. No symptoms as of yet.

Takin a break from the chores this morning.
I have two op sessions planned now. 3 and 10 December. One for each club. I can just leave all the loads in the industries after the op session on 3 Dec and just build new trains for the 10th.
Heading up to Detroit for my nieces wedding on Friday, the day after T'day. Driving the Tesla so I'll see how long travel works out with it. I'll have to make three stops to recharge along the PA and OH turnpike.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy, light scattered showers and 40° on the SFW Estate. The ever-changing forecast has changed again, the weatherman woke up this morning and had to add rain to this morning's forecast. Also added it for every day from Wednesday through Saturday. High temperatures are still predicted to be in the upper-50's to the mid-60's; with the lows between 44° and 50°. It's acceptable weather for the end of November.

Busy day yesterday, being Sunday there was Mass, I had to empty the dishwasher, clean wood ashes out of the heater and dump them on to the compost pile (discourages rodents and provides potassium to the soil later), Continued the garden clean up by removing many of the tomato cages and foot boards, and running the small electric mower over piles of leaves with the grasscatcher in place. Those will be tilled directly into the garden next month.
Haahaaaa...I'm a vegetarian idiot! Nowadays the vege alternative is not that bad anymore.
I often wonder why brands like Impossible Meat and Beyond Meat are in the meat section of the grocery store!!!o_O

Thanks for the reactions and comments regarding the slow progress on my current project.

Some additional progress out in the train shed yesterday. I did more ground cover and parking area cover. I stopped only because I ran out of the fine ballast mix that I was using. I mixed up some more, but opened an adult beverage in the interim. I have trouble doing good modeling after a few gulps.

Ken (D&J) - That was a nice video of the library run that you posted yesterday.
Tom O - I hope that you get the nosebleeds under control and that it isn't something too serious.
Troy - Hell!! I'm still trying to get over daylight saving time.

Everybody have a great day.

I would expect that to be "all over the NORTH west", where water tends to be slightly more available.

I was working in Emmett, Idaho for the Forest Service. They told me about the water thing cause there was no pulp market whatsoever in that vicinity. I see there are lots of paper mills now, which is a bit of surprise.

As you are probably aware, wood is expensive to transport and prices are highly subject to distance from mill. While logging in Minnesota, it was always difficult to offload pulpwood. Either the logger pretty much "gave it away" (meaning after trucking and stumpage costs were subtracted there was nothing left to pay labor) or it stayed in the woods to decay. Most of the profit from the woods was sawlogs and veneer.

Yesterday we were watching YouTube videos about Japan. A guy named John Daub has lived there since the 90s and has all sorts of wonderful videos about where to go and places to visit and see or experience or about different cultural aspects. Every time we are gearing up for a visit we tend to watch these videos.

Last night there was one in the list called "Japanese Wagyu Beef Experience: Beyond Kobe".

My son jokingly commented on why anyone would want fake Wagyu Beef. (From "Beyond Kobe")

(Technically this is not from the guy's channel though it is from the guy -- he entered in to a partnership with another group and they were doing videos on his channel together -- eventually the partnership soured in some way and the other group took over his old channel and he had to start a new channel which he has now -- this is on the old channel run by his former partners but is him in the vid as it is an older vid)

We've been eating the beyond burgers from Costco. They look and taste like ground beef, and even pretty much cook just like ground beef patties, yet they are vegetable. I'm sold. My wife doesn't like red meat, but she will eat these, so for us they are a great compromise. We both enjoy them. I like red meat, but for a burger on the grill, these beyond burgers are pretty darned good.

Hello again from nose bleed central. Very frustrating and the cause is baffling. Normally nose bleeds with me signal a sinus infection has hit, but that doesn’t seem it this time.

The house does have a whole house Aprilaire series 600 humidifier and its working. The PA I saw already this morning cannot see any lesions within the nose so says the house is too dry. If this was just a morning thing I would say the bedroom is too dry but just in case we will be heading to the local hardware store to buy a Continous mister for my side of the bedroom.

Thanks for the suggestions. I may be trying a couple of them, but no tampons!

I have 5 more Merchant Row kits of #1 and 5 that I was just trying to list on FB sales sites. FB changed the process last week or so. I used to do one site and FB would ask if I would like to list on more sites and then would bring up my list of sales sites. Only one at at time now and it sucks and is almost not worth my time. I tried FB Marketplace but I am not even sure the listing published.

The official 1st job out of college was at the customer desk in a hard Wire shop. I had interned though at Chicago’s massive Central Steel and Wire’s service desk and order desks during college. All done by hand tracking, no computers yet. One of the things we produced were the grills for Weber Grill and many of the MCDonalds items including the 1st production runs of the Apple pie baskets. I had to know where every job in the shop was so I developed my own graphs with the reluctant help of the 60+ year old production manager to follow and time was a huge element. Later in Wisconsin I discovered the Gann graphs and even later Edward Demings JIT process. So tracking things is definitely ingrained in me. Heck we were a just in time shop but didn’t know it had an official name! I then got smart and moved into Window and Door production management. Much easier then a job shop

Never had the beyond meat product, however have had some hamburger shaped spicy bean product which I actually like! Not sure what they cost today probably too much.

I never cared for the "black bean burger.". The ones we tried wouldn't stay together as a patty. They had great taste, but they failed to behave like a real ground beef patty. The new stuff looks, tastes and cooks almost exactly like ground beef... They are already formed into patties. 6 minutes a side on a hot grill will perfectly cook a frozen patty.😍

the black bean burgers won't fool anyone but are good in their own right as a different type of sandwhich -- not as a burger replacement. I haven't bought them in a while but enjoyed one every once in a while when I had them on hand. Again, not as a burger replacement but just as a different style of sandwich.

We were at Panda Express and they have a "Beyond Chicken" version of their Orange Chicken. We didn't try it and no one I was with thought it was worth it... So no one tried it. LOL

And I'll just leave this here:

Afternoon All,

Been gone for 3 days. Friday and Saturday I had cold/flu like symptoms (I have the flu shot) so I took OTC meds and slept a lot. Sunday I was tied up with a skunk rescue that took about 6 hours. After getting home around 4 pm I just didn't feel like posting. Last night was a crappy sleep becaue of my left foot neuropathy acting up. Today I finished hooking up the 55 gallon drums. I'll take a photo tonight when it's dark. I also added 100 weed clumps and ordered 2 more packs from Bachmann.

Smudge- I converted the steamer values to imperial and all I can say is WOW!

Dave- Nice layout shots and video.

TomO- Nice layout photos.

Hughie- Mrs. Claus was nice to you.🤶

Willie- Nice scenes and progress.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Thanks Troy. Moisturizing, spraying the nostrils. That’s a new one. But, the pharmacist says oh yeah, we got that! Got a generic, here’s hoping.

I have tried the black bean replacement for burgers and it was ok. I mean some hamburgers like at Wendy’s or Burger King were worst. My issue is the soft texture. I’m not sure how to explain that. It’s too soft, IMO
