Good morning to all. Mel, did you give the ladies off or a late start? Oh, ok! Yes I will mind my own business!

Diet Dr. Pepper #2 this morning. 1 is usually my daily intake of caffeine. Had a quick meeting at 6:45AM and since I had already ridden the trails in the ATV I am in my cave. its cold out, 24f degrees feels like 12 but climbing to 31.

The only definite thing today is I take the grandson to hockey practice from 4:40 to 6. Then we come home for dinner and bed at 8:30 for the grandkids. The daughter and hubby are celebrating 15 years today. I was shocked when Terry mentioned they have been married that long. I still shutter at remembering that party bill! Didn’t mind the reception and dinner bill but his divorced parents decided the day before the wedding that they couldn’t pay for the all night open bar that his mom insisted we have. It had to be an open bar and on the invitations because that’s the way her family always did it. I still dislike the woman and the daughter has mellowed but still hates her.

I have some odds and ends today, or tomorrow or not to finish up on and I don’t feel like venturing out in this weather. I do know I need better gloves as the ones I am using are not keeping the fingers warm. Heading to the gaming shop if I head out for the other stuff. I was going yesterday but decided, nope too cold. I am looking for Tamiya TS 80 clear to try. The LHS does not have it and I try to avoid Hobby Lobby who does have cans in stock

enjoy the day

Good morning all,

a slippery commute again, with light snow falling about 4 am. Every day this week has been snow and poor visibility.

Friday coming then next week Thanksgiving I have 5 days off beginning Thursday. Would like to work on the dependable suburban, replacing 33 year old hinge pins. Those things really lasted.

Wonder if any of those new Tesla's will be around in 30 years. Truth is, no one knows what the future holds, according to Doris Day

I think she was right,

A pic of my control station,

will be back later...

SWAL:

While working at a retirement community we had one of those installed for an elderly gentleman at the request of his caregiver. All they did was put ceramic tile on the floor! Floor drain in the middle of the room. A little like european bathrooms where the whole room is pretty much a shower (Saw on HGTV)

The walls were tile, too, and shower head apparatus above. Sounds a bit simplistic, he did not have a shower curtain but that could be easily done.

Dave
Google:
"Wetroom Shower Tray"

Depending on style there around 1-3" in height, but would advise fitting a shower curtain, wall mounted stool and handrails.

Or get something like this if possible.

When we started building this place 30 months ago I decided last minute to have the downstairs guest bathroom outside my cave and train room built with the curbless shower. Last minute decision and it was a good one. I often will take a shower there after spending time painting or weathering. I love just walking in. Reminds me of the locker room shower floors. I had it and the guest bedroom designed for mobility issues for either one of us.

Still catching up with posts while I'm in Vegas... I may be late on this. Apologies if it's already been covered.

For those of you citing social issue agendas in the Trek universe... The show has ALWAYS been that way.

In the late 1960s, Shatner and Nichols... first interracial kiss. Heck, Nichelle Nichols only stayed with the show because Dr MLK Jr convinced her that she was a ground-breaking role model for young POC in a time when such roles were definitely not occurring. Remember when Mr. Rogers had an episode sharing a cooling foot bath (in a kiddie pool) with the black police officer - while the racial segregation issues were being called out by the Civil Rights protest? That was the time of the show. Trek took many stands that were against the cultural norms of the time. Or used their screenwriting to call attention to the issues and explore their implications.

They covered hot topics like recreating the Cuban missile crisis (Balance of Terror) in the standoff with the newly discovered Romulans (the caption of the Romulan ship - played by Mark Leornard - went on to play Spock's father)

"A Private Little War" was basically a proxy for the proxy war being fought in Vietnam, with the Klingons standing in for the Soviets and Kirk being "witch-doctored" into acting like the US to arm the other side...

Don't forget Movie #4 (with the whales). That was a definite take on environmental protection.

"Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" featured the racial division of the Black/White aliens arguing about racial superiority with White/Black guy mad at Black/White guy...

There are other examples. These are not one-offs. Star Trek has always been "Woke" - it was designed that way by its creator.

OK, I gotta share some more pictures of Deja Blue (Sorry, Ken)

In the first picture, you can see part of the radiator if you look at the back side of the rear wheel, you can see part of the bracket that holds one of the radiators. It has 2 radiators, which is the biggest departure from the donor car, and supposedly, there was only so much space available unless you moved the radiator all the way up into the frunk area, which would cause other issues to contend with.

In that last picture, you can see the power brake reservoir and the plumbing for the bi-level Heat, Air Conditioning and defrost. Also in that last picture, you can see a vintage kleenex box sitting right in fron to the driver... That contains teh donors car gauge cluster, which was necessary in order to use the donor car's computer. The gauges in the dash are reproductions and they function perfectly.

The company that made these also used WRX donors... imagine a 300hp paddle shift automatic in a car weighing a little less than 2,000 pounds. Mine was a regular old Subaru FJ25 with 175hp (maybe originally) and it would chirp the tires going into 3rd gear at about 45MPH.

The real 356s from the 50s and 60s had 60hp, or maybe 90-some with the Carrera motor.

She's gone now. I was the third owner. A blast to drive, but filling it up with gas took forever because people would want to stop by and talk about it while I was filling her up, LOL.

Seeing that front trunk reminds me of my old 1968 squareback. I purchased it in 1978, paid $450 for it. Was a nice runner, snappy fuel injection air cooled engine, mileage over 30 mpg

I left it in Colorado Springs while travelling to Boise, Idaho back in July of 1979. It quit running while trying to get over the pass and I was low on money and time, had to hitch hike to Idaho Falls then took the Greyhound to Boise. Needed to be to Emmet, Idaho by 8 AM Monday morning to start a new job.

mine was green too, had a sunroof but no luggage rack

Afternoon All,

Started out with my morning walk with a temp of 54 F but the wind was brutal. After breakfast I did several inside and outside chores in preparation for Thanksgiving. Tomorrow Dad has another VA appointment tomorrow late morning. Hopefully some train running tomorrow.

Smudge- Is it made from Gold? That's over $19K U.S.

Christian- Great news.

James- Great photo.

Louis- That's a bit early for me, probably about 5 weeks.

Dave- Nice layout shot. I remember her singing that song, but I also remember her singing it as a duo with Dean Martin on one of their shows.

Jeff- Gourgous looking car.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Curt - my grandmother used to sing it to us while travelling. Oddly, they called travelling "bummin". As in, "Let's go bummin" or "We are going bummin today" as in bums. Not in a derogatory way. Hearing it now brings back fond memories.

The present is good but seems so clouded by the media noise. Maybe that big EM pulse from the sun will come and quiet things down a bit.

James - love the pic in Kirk's "throne"

I think it would be cheaper to buy the damn 1:1 locomotive, than this model!!!!

Darn! It's out of my era.

My dad used to sat that too..."Let's go bummin" as in go someplace. Sometimes it was piling us 5 kids in the car and going for a drive. If we were lucky we'd get ice cream...not always. Western Michigan along the lakeshore always had something to do. We lived a mile from the lake, but 2 miles by roads and public access.

Sounds like almost the same as we called it - except is was 'slumming'. Since meeting wify, we now do 'tod loops' when we go for a drive. Dau Jordan started that and it stuck. A tod loop is usually an out and back, or out and around back and most of the time requires a motel as we either get hungry or tired or both. Gets our butt's outa the house in any event. Wife is eye-balling a class C motor home for her goat hobby - used one of course. I am buying into it as I can see usefulness with it for train shows and/or regional meets. Heck with the goats!

Later
