I live less than a mile from mom, sis less than two, so when sis called for help, I got there quickly. I might end up living just a floor away, rather than a three minute drive soon too--still working it through.
She was mostly worried about me getting her ballot delivered today, so it's a huge sigh of relief. At 87, and even if she survived a fracture, her spirits wouldn't. We've got to keep her in her own home until the end.

FWIW, and IIRC, sis had hip replacement surgery about four months back, and she walked into her house that same day. Didn't ever even need a single codeine through it all. But a fracture will probably be more difficult and painful both. I don't envy you, having to deal with that.

Keep your own spirits up! Really important, particularly if you don't have nearby backup.

Good morning everyone!
Today no stupid jokes at all. Yesterday (it's already Wednesday morning in France), the vet told us that our lovely girl Iris (it's a dog) has a deadly lung cancer. She still has a few weeks to live. How many ? Only God knows...
Have a nice day.

So sad. Treat her well and enjoy the time remaining. Don’t let her suffer

Morning all,

68° and mostly cloudy with high humidity. High later today of 75°. Current temp is where our highs normally are this time of year.
Hopefully get some train time over this weekend. 3 days to get the normal 2 days worth of stuff done. I'll probably end up playing mechanic: Putting a rear end in a chair.

Christian: Sorry to hear about your friend. Enjoy the time you have with her.

Duties call...BBL

Good morning to the land of dashed dreams of political might and power. I stayed in the train room last night at the bench or in the Cave with the music high to drown out any shrieks and moans coming from the news junkie in the house. She hit the sack around 1 grumbling that everything was too close to call. I just checked online the election results and she will be happy with a few results. The only major race in the state we agreed with turned out in her favor! Now the talk of leaving the state should stop.

I generally don’t care who one votes for, just vote. But this election in Wisconsin saw 75% + voter turnout and 90% plus in our county. So, the people are being heard.

It is 52f degrees in the south central part of the Cheesehead state, heading to 69. The yard could use a cutting and movement of the leaves. We shall see if the mood strikes. Heading out in about 30 minutes to tour the property and talk to the staff. I will start re-reviewing the proposed budget for the second quarter of our fiscal year today. I already looked at it in September but with my new shadow learning the ropes it will be a good experience for her. Plus, I will look at it with a different mindset. The budget for the year I approved but Terry and I always have gone over it again before the next fiscal quarter starts. Doing it now, just earlier then normal.

It’s a normal thing and never unexpected but 2 of the staff have quit to return home to Mexico. We always lose a few after bonus pay is handed out. They generally come from a group that are not part of those going for USA citizenship.

As I posted yesterday I am reducing the structure kits, basically the duplicates. Posted Merchant Row kits here yesterday and a few others on FB. Of the 7 kits I posted 5 sold with just Merchant Row kits 1and 5 left. Today, actually this evening, I hope to post a few built up structures I have done. I need to see if I have packaging for them 1st though. They are the Walthers Cooling Tower and an Electrical Substation. I already have both on the layout and these were purchased for the paper mills and when I was selling dioramas.

I have told my past weathering Clients that I am taking a break till after the New Year and more likely until the Stable deal is official 2/1. I made 2 exceptions as I told them both, weathering will keep me involved in the trains and not the business side of the homestead. Both understood and neither are the type to push for a deadline. I will still sell, maybe, some of my own stuff, mainly gondolas that have not been selling very well.

While typing this, I have also been messaging with a guy selling on FB. The BLMA car he was selling at a crazy low price he has sold but showed me a few more cars at low pricing I just said yes to. Geez, I have to stop that

enjoy the day

Good morning!

It's very cold (-8F) and clear this fine morning. Orion can be seen hanging out in the southwestern sky, confused by all the satellites blinking on/off around him. I'm hoping he bats those out of the sky with his club.
I remember the sky as seen from the wilderness of the Yukon/Alaska Highway in the 70's. The Milky Way could be seen in all its majestic beauty from that vantage point. One just can't see that when close to civilization and the cities. It was hard to see the sky for all the stars and colour.
I'm glad I witnessed all that before the satellites and development took over. Sadly, my experience is just a memory and not recorded in my own photographs.

Up at 4:30am today. Like others, I'm still biologically on the summer clock.
Need to run some errands later. I'll plug in the trucks block heater for an hour before I start up.

I am reading news about wives, mothers, and pets going down with broken hips and illness. Very sad to hear about all that, and hope the situations are able to pull through in positive and painless ways. Thoughts have been sent.

I'm thinking it's too cold to be dragging the camera around when I go out. So, I don't bother.
On the other hand, at -8F, it's not all that cold out there. My blood just hasn't formed to the cold yet. Don't forget that just 3 weeks ago, it was +20. Ten days ago, it was +15. This cold and snow literally fell into our laps overnight.

Here's a couple of 2022 archived photo's remembering warmer days, both are train related:

Well, I suppose that's enough yip-yap for one day. Gonna sit back and suck down more coffee until it gets daylight. Then I'll walk the dog and get some forest type exercise.
I'm hoping someone will break trails with a Skidoo. It's hard walking in the snow.

Have a great day!

Good morning all, it is 44° and misty out there. We are supposed to get brushed with snow Friday from that massive system to the north.

It looked like a big voting turnout, however wife said out of 500 some eligible voters, something over 300 voted at our polling site. She got home at 9:00 PM and they didn't have any problems. I did not watch any election results but went to bed shortly after she got home. Nothing changed on the news feed same old finger pointing, mishaps, and rude rhetoric as before the election. How stupid of me, did I think that would change?

Patrick - rear end in chair? that requires some explanation. Hope you enjoy your 3 days off!

I played with trains last night, everything worked well no derails or problems. Getting ready to start a new project (not sure what) as will be leaving the water feature as is and also new trees do not need any tweaking,

Took this drone photo of the Wyoming depot area

gradually getting this area filled in, still a way to go

Thanks for the intermodal picture Guy. I just purchased my 1st intermodal car since I sold all the previous stuff years ago. Your picture is what I will base my weathering on.

enjoy your day

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 68° at the SFW estate. Still looking at nice weather for two more days until a cold front Friday drops the high temperature by 30°, to around 50°. Overnight lows near freezing for the following 8 days. Green tomato picking time here today and tomorrow for ripening indoors.

Texas election results are in, I voted for 22 out of 22 winners. Due to redistricting in Texas to accommodate the two new House seats, my district changed from TX-13 to TX-26. I was in TX-13 for 41 years. My new guy, an incumbent that I voted for, easily won. There were no crowds at our precinct, 789 out of 1136 registered voters (69.45%) in the precinct voted, with nearly half (306) voting early. I don't know how many unregistered folks are in my precinct. As I was leaving, a parade of registered high schoolers, led by a teacher or two, came from school across the road to vote. There was maybe two dozen which in this rural school might have been the whole senior class. My kids graduating classes at the same school ranged from 13-31.
Overall election results indicate that the real losers are the pollsters who have flubbed up four elections in a row.

Trip to Dallas yesterday to pick up my wife was uneventful; managed to squeeze in the trip home just before outgoing rush hour. Stopped by my bank to deposit some checks and found that a mayonnaise jar filled with assorted coins can hold $95. Now I start over with an empty jar. Won't fill as fast as my use of cash is diminishing.
Besides picking tomatoes, I have nothing planned for today other than a nap until it's time to fix supper.

Only a short time out in the train shed yesterday after the trip to Dallas and back. Relaxed by running trains and reading an article or two in the December MRR.
Nothing really to post today picture-wise, except a repeat of the oversized decal sheet from the Walther's loading platform kit, showing another brilliant faux-pas.

Dave B - My immediate thought on the piping is to cut everything at a 90° angle and direct all of them straight down, to unseen below grade pipes.
George - Prayers for your wife's surgery and recovery today.
Christian - What happened to Bergerac? Sorry to hear about Iris.

Everybody have an absolutely wonderful day.
