I used to live in an HOA. Many of the board members where there merely to support their personal interests. The Yacht club was a major supporter of candidates in order to fund the projects in support of the boating community. Apparently, it never crossed their minds to serve in support of the community at large.

Good morning. 36° and sunny, going to 67°. Leading up to five consecutive days of mid 70s temperatures.

Unbelievable that the Phillies would be no hit in a WS game...although they came close to being no hit in game 2 There is a pattern developing.

Capitals are at Detroit tonight.

I go for an Lumbar MRI this morning @ 1115.

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 66° out on my back porch. Windy weather predicted for today, with very strong thunderstorms predicted for tomorrow. That's a bit of a drag as I have to drive my wife to Dallas tomorrow for a flight with our granddaughter to Florida. The flight won't be affected as it's on Saturday after the storms move on.

Today is the usual weekly grocery trek. Should be a quick one since we ran some errands Tuesday when visiting the cardiologist.
Lawn tractor crapped out on me yesterday, just stopped running. No sputtering, no banging, just stopped. Smoke coming out of the area where the cooling vanes are. I have a call in to my neighbor who repairs small engines. Though I have many talents, gasoline engine diagnosis and repair is not one of them. I fear the worst.

Thanks for the reactions to yesterday's update. Not much more to complete.

Made very little progress yesterday out in the train shed. I made two signs.

The vertical sign I made Tuesday.

Patrick - Ponds. I have posted before about our newest neighbor, a city slicker who moved onto the 100 acre property down the road, and his refusal to listen to those of us who have lived here for 40+ years. He had this dream of a country estate. He had a large pond built, with a lighted fountain no less, only 18 months ago. The pond itself was originally about 25' deep and covers 2.25 acres. Against my advice (and at least one other neighbor), he cleared brush and undergrowth out of some woods uphill, installed a $50K road, and a culvert to direct runoff water into the pond. Last month, he had to drain the pond and had to hire a bulldozer operator to come out and scoop out a couple hundred yards of soil that washed off the cleared forest floor and now runs into the pond every time it rains. Besides silting up the pond, it is eroding and exposing the roots of the lowest trees in his woods! He also had to refill the pond with water that he pumped out of the ground. I don't know what the bulldozer cost him, but he ran the pump 24 hours a day for 11 days. His wife didn't want to wait for enough rain to fill it up. It will happen again. He has not yet seen a "real" rain on their property like I have seen a few times before. The flow of water down that incline from his property and a few thousand next to it on the south is a real sight to behold. Now his four longhorns have water again.
Smudge - Don't fear painting figures. They're relatively easy but you need good lighting, magnification, a relatively steady hand, a fine pointed brush, water-based paints and most importantly, patience.
Chet -
Willie - I really liked the Walthers diner kit. I put interior lighting in mine and a bunch of 1/87 hungry people.
This is actually a City Classics kit that is very similar to the Walther's kit, which I also have pictured below.

Everybody have a great day.

Good morning all,

Falling stars have been visible in the northwest sky last couple mornings during my commute, must have been bright if I can see them while driving,

We are having another warm day before temps go back to normal, 55° now heading up to 65.

I did some more painting of figures last evening, that is one time consuming job. Looking forward to getting that batch of people done. For Saturday will be travelling to Duluth with wife, she is going shopping and will be dropping me off at the train museum so I don't have to find a place to sit at all the stores she will be visiting. I will be hanging around that part of town for a couple hours taking in sights and drinking coffee. Then we are eating at one of the downtown restruants, I presume.

Here is a shot from the old layout

Afternoon All,

Started out with chores then headed to the train room. I wanted to use my RS1 for today's signal video (stored on a RH track) but I couldn't it to power up. I'm scratching my head and I remembered I didn't power those tracks (DPDT toggle), so after doing that it still wouldn't power up. It has a QSI Titan decoder so I tapped 6-6 (after research) on the function keys and it was magical 😂. Anyway, after the video I did several local moves putting things back where they are stored on the layout. That took about an hour. I really need to clean track.👎

George- That looks great.

Hughie- The build looks great.

Troy- My Dad (89) has the same issue that I think is getting worse. He always uses that product and it has "saved" him from time to time.

James- Happy Birthday 🎂.

Smudge- I am very sorry to hear that.

This is on the peninsula reverse loop. I have the ability to reverse a train on each of the 3 legs of the layout.

I hope everyone has a good night.
Thank you Curt! 😁

Good morning Crew. Final full day in the desert. Heading to Wisconsin around 6AM Friday with the wife.

The Background

I rarely watch TV and especially not the news programs. I read the Drudge Report daily because it is so easy to access newspapers from around the country. I also read occasionally the USA Today. However, I have soured on both of these news reporting sites for various reasons.

The Question

Where online do you read your news?

I actually avoid the national news shows on the big networks. We have one local TV station that I somewhat trust to report facts with little editorializing.

I don't need to be told what to believe or how to think... just give me the facts and let me me draw my own conclusion, thank you!

Anyone know what's going on with Ebay shipping charges? I was looking to buy some stuff there today and they want $28.00 shipping. I talked with someone who I bought from last year and he told me they make money off of shipping and that'[s why it's so high. I told the guy I bought from you send it to me as a non Ebay sale USPS $3.00 or forget it and that's what he did leaving Ebay out. Not good for Ebay but they shouldn't be trying to make money off of shipping.
George

In the last 4 years especially during COVID......people were and have been gouging buyers using this method with "bloating" the shipping prices. It's all a game to them to make money. If I bought something that I had to have and couldn't get any where else, I would buy it but then when I did my review and ratings on them.... I would give them a huge negative and zero stars. Sometimes they would comment back or others have given credit if I changed the review etc. It is a sad case of abuse on the shipping. Buyer beware seem to be the thing you have to do. Most of the time I will not buy with those ludicrous shipping charges. There are some circumstances I think but rare for high shipping charges.

Sometimes it helps to contact the seller before hand and discuss the rates etc. and you may be surprised they may make an adjustment before you buy it now or bid.

I dunno it's always an issue. Good luck to ya!

Good morning!

5F and the snow is going to stay until spring. My blood isn't used to it yet, and she feels very cold outside. We are wearing the winter coats.

I wanted to post a couple of pictures yesterday, but, just didn't have time.
A couple of new Walthers kits came in the mail:

A Bachmann combine also came in by post. This was purchased for the children's train.

I still need a caboose and a few more cars for the children's train. They've tried her out, though, and are quite thrilled. Even with the tracks not going round completely.

I did do a little bit more track laying and made it up to where the bridge landscaping is required. A rail serviced sawmill and planer will be built inside that curve.

I'm thinking about putting a tunnel on the curve with mountains in the background. A tunnel will need a reason to be there, and so does the creek gorge.

I'm in a hurry again, so I can't chit-chat. Gotta go!

Have a great day!
