I just watched this video about the folks on the USS NJ working to get systems moving on the ship. This one is about the OE-82 satellite communications system that I used to work on. The only thing related to the OE-82 is the gray box with the two big knobs on it, about his face level. That's the controller that receives ships course info and keeps the antenna pointing at the satellite as the ship changes course. Depending on what circuit you want to use, you have to point the antenna in the general direction of that geo-stationary satellite, which is where those big knobs come in.

I'd get calls about a ship not being able to come up on a certain circuit. As I walked to the ship, I'd be looking up at their trashcans and see if they were pointing the same as the other ships in the area. If they were not, that's the first thing that needed to be investigated as their look angle was only 15 degrees.

In the end of the video, he asks which systems would make the ship look like it was coming back to life. To me, any antenna that rotates. That's part of pre-underway checks - get the navigation antennas spinning. The air search radars normally don't get going until out at sea, but in this case, they can get those going as well.

Rotating radars was our signal that they were getting ready to go to sea.

Well we just got in from my Great-Niece Emma;s High School Graduation and then dinner afterward. And yes, she did get two College Level Nursing Certificates last week as she has been taking college classes the last two years in addition to her regular school work! She is such a hard worker and we are so proud of her.

Have a great day!;)

Good Saturday morning from Wisconsin. 55f degrees now heading to 75. Possible rain after 6pm!

Not really sure what the day will bring as we have no plans and Terry confirmed that last night. I’ve not signed up for any OPS Sessions and will miss one today at a layout I really enjoy.

We will not attend the world’s largest Brat Fest in Madison this holiday weekend. We stopped a few years ago as the crowds are too much. Started in 1983 it’s a huge charity event to start the Summer Season off. Lots of music and great brats but it’s for the younger folks even though my heart is young…

Enjoy your day

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with weiners and brats

It's Troy again.

Wife told me I'm going to the farmer's market, then to the mall with her today. She's got a $10 coupon for JC Penny and towels are on sale. She requires my input on towels. Even though we're looking at hand towels.

So I saluted, and asked what I got for lunch. That is still undecided since the place she wanted to try, Bubba's 33, has mixed reviews. The worst ones indicate the sports bar loudness. We're not into watching sports, nor listening to blaring TVs. So, it's a pass.

Probably end up at Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen again.

For today, I need to finish clearing off the benchwork, and figure out how much I need to add to the two ends of the dogbone to get a 22in radius curve on each end. I've drawn out a 21/22 inch template on masonite. I need to go cut it, so I can do my "regular guy" planning in real time. None of this fancy schmancy CAD for me. ;)

Another crummy day in Lake Carmel NY. In the last 3 months maybe 3 nice days where you want to be outside. I go on these rail trail walks early in the morning and freeze. The trail's path through the woods is where you hardly ever see the sun. For some reason Carmel keeps its rail trails in top condition. In the photo below one of the only places on the trail where you have some sun light shine down on you. The trail goes up the grade over Rt 6. The maintenance truck is weed wracking along the trails fencing. Swal

I was wrong about the rain. It's been raining for over 30 minutes now. Nothing heavy, but a constant light shower. So much for the grass today.

TLOC: Have you ever visited the Bavarian Sausage Shop in Madison? The Weisswurst is wonderful, as are the Nürnberg Brats.
Yes it’s just over a mile away. Great sausages and Brats. When we had Summer parties Terry would order from them.

Good morning all!

Current weather conditions look fairly nice today. Currently its 63F with the high expected to be around 79F. Its fairly sunny as of
now but cloudy conditions are supposed to take over and a chance of scattered light rain showers later this evening.

No real plans today other than the weekly grocery run, and some laundry. Will have to mow at some point this weekend but not
sure if that will be today or tomorrow.

Other than that, its should be a quiet Saturday!

Have a safe day everyone!

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 65°, with rain added back into our forecast this morning. Whatever rain there is, looks like it's already off to the east though. Mid-80's with clouds expected today.

Quiet day here on the farm yesterday. Dishwasher, a load of laundry and other household tasks. More of the same stuff today, although I will be making a journey to the garden for the next Green Bean picking. I also hope to pick several bunches of herbs for drying; Oregano, Cilantro, and Dill. Been using all of them fresh and most are perennials, but my Dill will soon go to seed.
Later today, we'll head for Daughter #1's home for Brisket and other Memorial Day weekend favorites. I'm making Italian Pasta Salad and wife is making Cheese/Bacon-Stuffed Jalapenos. I'll bring my own beer since all my SIL ever buys are those fruity-flavored varieties. We'll exchange the loaner Lexus for ours on the trip...I want my own dashboard back and all of the other custom electronic settings. It takes a couple of hours to reset all of the loaners' settings.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I just continued road building. Made a lot of progress and took a few pictures, but left the camera out there. Not sure if I will be allotted any time to retrieve it today! Wife is already pressing me for assistance. I'm the cheese grater of the house. However in return, she'll cook me some extra strips of Bacon.

Alan - Not sure whether or not I have ever seen any layout videos from your club before. Looks like a good place.

Everyone have a great Saturday and a safe Memorial Day weekend.

Thanks Willie. That video is from the club's channel, so there's more if you're so inclined!

We are heading out at 11 for 2 of the Farmers Markets but not the big one around the Capital. She wanted to go at 7 but if you don’t tell me and not set an alarm you miss the opportunity. She wants some lamb chops for tomorrow, more rhubarb and a few other things.

Terry also mentioned we are heading Wednesday to test drive the new Rivian models at a stock holder event. Mike I’ll wave when we drive by Mendota on our way to Bloomington! We also will test drive a Subaru Solterra Limited Thursday as the appointment is made. Are we going electric? Probably/Maybe. I test drove the electric tank VW sells and the Cadillac Optiq which was a very nice surprise. Terry hated the VW but loved the Caddy which is not the old stuffy Cadillac vehicles of my lifetime

We today after FM #2 will stop at the LHS for Tamiya’s green bottle cap extra thin glue and at Michael’s for some flow aide for the air brush. The orders placed at Amazon are scheduled for next week Friday and I definitely need the flow aide as I am mixing brand paints for my base concrete color.i’ll be out maybe tomorrow! Can’t have that…

Enjoy the day
