Working on adding a firebox flicker to my Rivarossi HO Big Boy. While at it, I decided to make the head and tail lamps directional vice constant on. I had a stay alive on the circuit, which is easy with a rectifier, but since this is going to be directional now, needed to design something easy.

Came up with this.

Breadboarded it and it works pretty good. Simulated poor contact conditions and the led remains on. Reversed the power leads and the capacitor does not see any negative voltage. This is a DC circuit as I currently do not have plans for DCC (famous last words).

I am getting a ton of spam from google mail. About ready to block the entire domain again.
I feel your pain. I get a ton of spam on my server (I run an email server in a side business though it's mainly just existing customers -- haven't actively been trying to grow for a decade). With all the other anti-spam measures I've implemented, a large percentage of spam is now spam being routed through Google. Either through their Gmail servers, or through email servers they provide to cloud customers, or by Google cloud customers who set up their own spam servers on Google cloud VMs... It's very frustrating as the only ones I can block are the ones that come from the Google cloud VMs. Cloud users who use Google's servers and the Gmail servers I cannot block as that would block too much valid email my customers expect. I keep a folder of spam I've gotten through Google.

Good morning all!

Another below average day today. Its a cold 32F and the high is only supposed to be 61F. Might have an afternoon shower later
this afternoon but not a huge chance at only 45%.

Have to run my daughter out to the high school early this morning for an interact club meeting. Then it will be laundry, light vacuuming
and a few other household chores.

Nothing much else going. Time to hit the coffee.

Have a safe day everyone!

Went to the VA last week for a my first check up. I'm 81 and when I first got out of the service, the VA was the last place you wanted to go if something was wrong with you. I got free hearing aids (jet engine mechanic), and I found out the my medicine that I take is covered by the VA. That's over 150 bucks a month. Just got the medicine in the mail and I have been taking medicine to stop me from getting up at 2:30 every morning to take a pee. My original medicine was not really working at all. Got the new medicine and it seems to work fine. Same medicine as before; but on the label it says "TAKE AT BEDTIME". Well that came as a surprise to me. My original medicine only said one a day. I guess I have to get out my "call me stupid" hat, because I should have released it should have been taken at night. Going in for eye exam either today or next week (Joan takes care of appointments for me because I forget the days). I require a prism in my lens because I see double. Lesson learned: the VA hospital is not what it was like 60 years ago

Where's your closest VA? You're near South Bend, IN, correct?

I know we've got one here in Fort Wayne. Not sure if SB has one or not. Hate to see you drive to Chicago for all of that.

I'm up.

Sciatica is flaring.

Working through the exercises and Teeter table slowly to get things loosened up.

Trying to word the words this morning, but the leg ache is distracting.
I'm there with you. I set mine off 2 days ago at the gym. I was pulling a 45# plate off the machine and did something wrong. I woke up this am and was finally able to stand straight up. Heat, ice, Ibuprofen, stretches, and valium (bedtime only) and I'm 70% back to normal.

Good Morning All. Clear and 47°, with a warmup to mid-70's soon. I did see 67° for a little while yesterday before it got cloudy again. Maybe thunderstorms on Sunday.

Headed out this morning for the weekly grocery trek. Expect it to be a short one, with the only added stop at the pharmacy. That is unless my wife wants to go somewhere. Not sure about the rest of the day, as it's too early to think about it.

While I did make it out to the train shed yesterday, I had a lazy day out there. I did bring about a half dozen structures over to the workbench for cleaning and upgrading, but only cleaned them. Did lots of upgrading on them in the Spring of 2024, the last time that I did this layout section. Ran a few more trains when I got bored and eyeballed potential spots for the next project. While I am not completely done with the large area that I have been doing for the past few weeks, it is essentially finished except for the addition of a few more vehicles. I might add another figure or two, but there's already 48 (at last count) there, and that might be enough.

Patrick - Hope that resolves your critter problem. They can be annoying sometimes.
John - Even though loud raunchy rock & roll is my favorite, Do-Wop music runs a strong second. While still heartthrobs, neither Elizabeth or Barbara can compare to Julie Newmar as Catwoman.

Everybody have a terrific Thursday.

Good morning Crew. Dying in any lobby, I sure as hell hope not!

Weather is crummy! Below seasonal at 35f heading to 60. The heavy frost warnings are up till 8am local and the cars and roofs looking out the windows are coated with the white stuff. We actually have a 18% chance of snow in the next hour!

I helped put fascia up yesterday for way too many hours. There were 7 at the work session yesterday plus the owner. 2 were using the table saw and had started 30 minutes before I got there. From 9:30 to 3 minus the 1 hour lunch break 4 of us put up the Masonite fascia. We started on different levels and we moved to the right and the other pair went left. We got the easy middle level of the multiple level layout to start. We finished our level and both teams then worked on level 3. Completed the entire layout minus the 60’ of yard that was getting the frames assembled yesterday. The original plan to do the yard first was changed Tuesday night when he realized how many were coming to the session. The 2 got all the frames for the yard done. I will go this morning after he texts. He is a bike rider and his group was to have a ride today but that area may still be flooded. If it is he’ll not go wherever the new ride will be! 3 hours and 3 of us should be able to finish the yard install. If not I am home all day

We talked at lunch yesterday. My friend the layout owner is the guy where the paper mill build is going. He also is one of the grandparent chaperones/race stewards for the slot car races held at my grandson’s place. He asked what it would take to build a 3 lane slot track at his place. Even though the model railroad will be between 1000’ and 1250’ mainline run there is still plenty more space in his basement. He has a nice 20’ x 30’ empty space next to the crew lounge. I told him to pick a race track and we can figure something out. Told him I can supervise but no longer can handle the router for more than 1/2 hour. I really do need to learn to say no…

Enjoy the day

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with aches and more aches

It's Troy again.

I put the wife on battery power today to see how long her office will run on our Anker Solix C1000 Gen 2. Her office has a north facing window right in front of the desk so she can get by on natural light, but usually has a three bulb LED floor lamp going. We'll leave the floor lamp out of the equation for now. I left it plugged into the wall, not the power station. Her laptop and two monitors are hooked into the battery pack. right now the battery pack says it should more than last the day.

And if you're wondering, Sherman's constant companion, Mr. Peabody is keeping the Fiber Optic internet connection running upstairs.

I stopped by the hobby store yesterday, but didn't purchase anything. I did however, notice the next area train show will be in Van Wert OH on July 17 and 18.

With me going to check out the HO club that has a travelling sectional layout, I expect they'll be there, along with the N-scale group. I'll go next tues to check out the HO group. If I get a good vibe from them, I may have to look at purchasing an HO DCC loco to take along. I'd want Conrail or BN if I stick with my layout's theme. But I'm not sure if the club has a limit on what they run? Since they don't have social Media or a website that I've noticed, they may have conditions.

The problem is the train show...

They picked the best weekend out of the summer for it.

"Hey Sweetie! want to go to the train show for our anniversary weekend?"

Yep, that will go over well. 🤣

Forgot to mention in the post above that it's just under two weeks until the electrician comes out to put the new breaker panel in. I've got enough batteries to keep the internet, her office, and one fridge fully operational. I just need to see how much cushion I have with each battery, to learn what extras I can power.
