I just read that singer/guitarist/songwriter Rick Derringer died last night at age 77. He was most famously known as the leader and singer for the McCoys and their 60's hit "Hang on Sloopy". He also wrote and sang "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo" in the 70's and played as a session musician with people as diverse as Steely Dan, Todd Rundgren, Kiss and even Barbra Streisand. He produced Edgar Winter's hit "Frankenstein" and played as his guitarist for many years. As a producer in the 80's he worked with Cyndi Lauper and Weird Al Yankovic. Later in the 90's he played with Ringo Starr and Peter Frampton. The list goes on.
His dad was a section foreman for the Nickel Plate Railroad!

I’m off on my own today. It’s cloudy but more white puffy clouds with bug patches of blue and sunshine.

I’m off to Akihabara to a capsule toy store we always visit. There is a second hand train store in the same building nut I don’t know if I’ll have time to visit. I have a lunch appointment with a friend from Taiwan who lives in Tokyo.

After lunch I’ll wander around and see what hobby or train stores I can find. We have another temple appointment this evening I have to be to.

I’ll post more pics later including our supper last night of Unagi (salt water eel).

what up coffee people :)

I have to say its great to have vacation :) yes this week iam off work, but lots of other stuff to do.
so i did some work in my layout room. startet "pouring concrete" for my loading dock and building a Walthers kit "Aunt Lucys House". Great kit i have to say.

oh and aria the supervisor got some new "friends". two small kittens arrived last week in our house Lumi and Sumi. Those are some whirlwinds. But so far all good. Aria is telling them when they are too much, so thats good. But i definitly know that those two will stay away from the layout room for the next weeks/months haha.

wish you all a great day.

cheers
Marco

With Microsoft no longer supporting Windows 10 this year I'm going to buy a new computer in the next week or so. I don't play games, so I just mainly want it for banking etc. I bought a refurbished Dell Windows 10 for my bedroom last year for only $98.00 to mainly bet horses on but I'm looking for something to use as my main desktop. Anyone here have any ideas on this.

A quick browse through my local electronics emporium found a Lenovo - IdeaCentre 3 Desktop - Intel Core i5-14400 - 8GB Memory - 256GB SSD.
Storage and ram are both easily upgradeable when you need more.

Quite sad indeed. Hang on Sloopy was a favorite growing up, my BIL had a cat in college (and years afterward) named Hooch, which was short for "Rock & Roll hoochie coo"! She lived about 15 years.

If just for banking and browsing, 8 GB should be good. If you do a lot of spreadsheets and crunching with a lot of stuff open, then 16 GB is better. My computer used to crash with the monster spreadsheets we used to use with 8GB. Had to have the IT administrators add more. 256 SSD is good for the operating system and programs. Put data on a separate SSD/HDD in case the operating system goes belly up and you have to reload or whatever. Disconnect the data drive, do the reload/recovery or whatever and reconnect. Keep the data safe.

You watch utube? That's becoming more demanding as well.

Gomez do you think 8GB is enough now days. Swal
I think 16 should be the minimum for anything more than surfing or emails. Since that's what you said you were going to do with it, 8 should be enough. If not, a second 8gb stick can be simply inserted into the empty slot for it. SSD stands for Solid State Drive. It takes the place of the old HDD, or Hard Disk Drive.

Morning all,

52° and mostly cloudy high of 71° later and storms overnight.

On this date in 1983 I married a beautiful woman. We're still together and how the heck she's put up with me this long, I'll never understand.

Swal: Terry is correct that 16 should be the minimum for anything other that surfing the web or reading email. SSD is stable technology and in many cases makes machines less likely to fail. My machine at home has 32Gb ram just because....
