haha keeps the sound out and in. Do like Bose used to do and hang heavy curtains on the walls and ceiling, but then the dust...
Luckily we don't get a lot of dust as long as the windows stay closed. We have an air tight house and an ERV (mechanical ventilation) that brings in fresh air from outside and expels stale air from the house. It filters the air coming in plus we have carbon filters on the individual sends into the house. I also have in one room a HEPA air filter table top system and eventually we'll have more of those. So after a couple months there is not that much dust. And a lot of what we have is left over construction dust that didn't get totally cleaned up. Once we're done and do a deep cleaning it should be better. Of course there is some dust that gets in plus dust generated by normal life. But its an order of magnitude less dust than we had before... Since there is no furnace or A/C, the only air is the ERV (Zehnder) and that has filters...

I do want to get some sort of wall panels or hangings and stuff eventually to help deaden some sound. In the basement we have a room that will be finished as a music (practice) room. Right now it's not finished but there is rock wool insulation in the interior walls and when you go in and talk it is really dead. Once we finish it I'll make some sound panels for the outer walls (which are the foam / concrete ICF)...

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those still shaking the dust off

It's Troy again

Not sure what is going on today. Wife is having a mostly quiet work week, since she was able to time her projects to go dormant right before our vacation week. So she'll do an hour or so of catch up, push something little off the pending, then do her personal to-do list while waiting on the next work task to get released from the pipeline.

I'm just working on the audio book, laundry, and putting paint on toy soldiers.

For those you who might come to Indianapolis anytime in the year before Nov, there is a bit of Indiana/PRR railroad hidden away that I'd forgotten about.

The Childrens Museum is going to start rennovating the exhibit of the Rueben Wells this winter. So the time to see it is before then.

Morning all,

Bill: Thanks for the coffee this morning. It's gonna be that sort of day.

Currently 68° and clear in Doo Dah, high in the mid 90's with a possible record set if the clouds don't build up and move this was. A much cooler day tomorrow in the mid 80's. I actually turned the sprinkler system on last evening as the grass (fescue) is showing some early heat stress.

Roofing company finished off yesterday with the new guttering on the house, so now I'll be getting a bill I need to submit to Insurance to pay the final replacement cost, less my deductible and add-ons. Add-ons were the downspouts that weren't hailed on and the upcharge to the better roof.

Good morning gang!

61° and raining, looking for a high temp of 71°. Wild flooding west of us from yesterdays rain, made the national news. Here we're ok, just soaked! The grass is going crazy growing, by the weekend it's gonna be deep. Speaking of deep I need to get the rain gutters cleaned out. All the little "helicopters" and leaves from the big Maple in the front yard have them overflowing again.

Willie (and other Texans) stay cool, I see you are gonna be as hot as we are wet!

Pleasantly 62f in east central Minnesota.

Willie-we had success with the dried blood as well. I struggled with the strong odor myself.

Tom--sounds like you had a great train session! I have had some electrical issues with the switches as well, in my case,, it was the track joiners somehow loosing connectivity. A little sliding back and forth with the needle nose and some gentle pressure cured it.

Will finish my dirt hauling and make progress on my layout homesteaders dwelling today, I hope...

Personal record on the bird watching this morning, 42 species counted including the rare Black-billed cuckoo. I even got a recording!

Good foggy morning in Wisconsin. It seemed strange walking in the fog and mist but between the music and being by myself I moved fairly quickly. The stamina I feel is stronger but there is not a real noticeable weight loss. I know it will come but it feels like I’m on the slow boat.

I fixed the dead section of track last night at the cold storage building. The wiring was fine it was the on/off switch that was faulty. I need to buy a better toggle switch, a miniature instead of the monster replacement I had! The turnout with the point issue I will fix this morning but the snap on the movement of the points maybe too strong. The other 2 with issues with the frogs I never got to last night. The grandson wanted to watch the Jets/Stars NHL playoff game so we did.

My friend with the F units had planned to come over last night but didn’t. He’ll be here at 3 this afternoon and stay for dinner, hamburgers and french fries on the grill. The kids have a concert and soccer practice this evening so Terry and the rest will be gone. I sent an email out last night looking to local modelers for 2 miniature on/off toggles. I couldn’t find on the box store websites they had any in stock.

I had no real plans for the day until 3 when my friend comes over. Now I may mosey into the train room. The house is clean, what chores I still do are done, there is no honey do list and Terry will be shopping with the daughter for some gifts for when we are in California. I need to go over the notes I took after the 2 sessions yesterday but I’m not feeling it right now.

Enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Cloudy and 73°. The one day heat wave is supposed to happen today with a high of 101° predicted. Doesn't usually hit triple digits here until mid-June, and if it happens, it will be only the fifth time since I started keeping gardening records here in 1981. One of those times was iffy on May 30 in 1985, before I got a digital thermometer. I looked it up for Dallas, and historically it has hit 100° in March twice in the last 125 years, 1911 & 1916. And prior to June, it happened only 10 times in the same period. I'm 75 miles north of their official weather station, so it probably didn't match in all of those years though.

Thanks for the coffee offer Bill, but I don't indulge. Can I just get a Sugar Free A&W Root Beer instead?

Doctor's visit yesterday was a mixed bag. It was the annual physical with the EKG, dumb questions about depression and falling, and a load of blood samples. I've had a wheezing problem for the last few weeks, and he (and the NP) decided that it was bronchitis. Got an antibiotic injection and prescription and he prescribed a stronger inhaler than the one that I already occasionally use "as needed".
I made a bunch of stops on the way home since my wife went to Dallas in the other car. First was Home Depot to pick up some additional lights for under the upper level of the layout, a new garden water sprinkler to replace the one tossed out into the field by last years tornado, and some tubes of Gorilla super glue and gel. Gassed up the car, then a stop at the pharmacy to pick up the new prescriptions, then the post office, and a rare for me stop at the fried chicken place to pick up lunch, another stop at the water company to pay the bill and finally got gas in the cans for the mower. Didn't get it earlier since I didn't want to carry it around in the back of the SUV while doing all of the other errands.
After getting home, I was just as busy, the damn dishwasher again, stacking a load of firewood that I picked up Monday, setting up the new sprinkler in the garden and watering before today's heat hit. I tested out the train shed A/C and two of the house window units. All OK. Still need to reinstall a third house one in the bedroom window, but not now.

I have no particular task list for today but I'll find something to do before the heat wave hits!

Out in the nice cool train shed yesterday, I was busy as well, just not as physical. While at Home Depot, I picked up some more paint sample cards to use as window treatments in model railroad structures.

For the first time since I started using it, I recently had an issue with Gorilla Super Glue. Some had apparently leaked into the cap, I store them upside down, and the spout broke off when I had to use the pliers to open it.

After a few weeks of using a toothpick dipped into the bottle, I did finally replace it yesterday. Or should I really say that I finally remembered to buy a new bottle!
Did a little more painting on figures, still have one left to do the arms which I will use the newest super glue.

Still have some touch up and finishing to do on many of this batch.

Patrick - I might need to turn off my Ad Blocker if that's what viewing this forum brings up! Obviously someone on your network has been shopping while at work!
I have found that annuities are to the benefit of only the insurance company issuing them
Troy -
I'd call 2009 an outlier that needs to be classified as something different than under one or another party.
My point really was that the president or his party really makes no difference to the stock market. Some of his actions may sway things temporarily, but overall, they have little actual influence in the long run.
Tom O - I am also a "buy and hold" person when it comes to stocks. Of course that's what got me into a hole in 2009, which eventually delayed my retirement by 3 years. I still managed to retire at 63 though, and have done considerably better after I dropped the financial advisor and started self-managing the portfolio.
Regarding couplers hanging up on crossings. While I don't really have an issue there since no car goes on the layout without checking the coupler height, I do get some that sag over time and the trip pins get caught. If the coupler is still close enough in tolerance or if adjustment may be difficult, I just bend the trip pin a little. I have read about folks cutting them, (or completely removing them), but I use magnetic uncoupling all of the time. Do you have any issues with that when you trim them? I am also not happy with any shelf coupler regardless of the manufacturer.
Hughie - It won't get as warm down south where you are, but I bet your humidity makes up for it! We're looking at 20% at best this afternoon.

I missed this one on Monday, but it was Steve Winwood's 77th birthday. He was just 16 years old when he wrote and sang the enduring Spencer Davis hit Gimme Some Lovin'. He was later with Traffic, Blind Faith and solo in his career.
Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday and stay cool and hydrated if the warm spell is going to affect you.
