Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those of us feeling our age, and then some...

It's Troy again.

Made a Cottage Pie last night for dinner, with pillsbury biscuits and homemade apple butter. Leftovers for lunch today.

Back is still in the aches and pains phase. Ice did wonders on Sunday. Monday wasn't bad, but just sleeping wrong/turning over tweaked it again. So I'm still consuming the ibuprofen.

Wife says we're going to Indy (2 hour drive) on Saturday to see the daughter and her boyfriend, and take care of some banking at a credit union we no longer need.

Sis #2 and her boyfriend are coming into town on Sunday to see a show, and want to meet us for lunch. OK... it's mother's day. Going to be fun trying to get in anywhere that's not crowded. Sounds like Mexican or Pizza.

Got the new audiobook done, and waiting on reviews/feedback from the beta listeners. Started working on the next one in that series, and realized it was the one I hadn't reimported after the great computer crash a year or so ago. I have to convert it from an epub into a word doc, then do a lot of formatting clean up. While I'm doing that, I have to edit and move the ...he said... stuff around. When I write, I tend to break up the dialog ...

"Well, dear," Willie said, "if you need a new wardrobe, I definitely need a new fleet of locomotives..."

While I like that style of writing, it sounds terrible. Much better narration with:

Willie raised an eyebrow, and decided it was time to join in the spending. "Well, dear, if you're going for a new wardrobe, my locomotives need upgrading as well..."

That's only one tone/tamber shift for the narrator to make between action and dialog.

Other than fixing all of those, I'll probably make a run to the Hobby Store and get another box of N cork roadbed if they have any left. And hit the grocery, Wife wants a deep dish piazza and we're low/out on the cheese I need.

Good morning gang!

Fell asleep for a bit on the couch, now I woke up with a crick in my neck about 4 a.m. Wifey is still there with the dogs. Reclining couches are deadly!

Another day of finding out stuff from the doctors ahead, and scheduling stuff. Oh joy!

Flo can you give me an IV bag of coffee, I'm gonna need it!

Morning all,

Daughter did fine on her surgery and we got back home in time to go to bed last night. Spending 2 of the past 3 days in a hospital isn't fun.
On a related note, mom moved to a regular room yesterday and is expected to be released by Friday. My sister said she was the most alert she'd been in a while, so that's a plus.

Starting year 11 with the city today. They're throwing me a party! Actually, it's the annual Employee's Appreciation week and lunch with party feel is happening today. I thanked the HR director for the party and she laughed.

Karl: Hopefully all goes better for you. Sorry to hear you're going to need more heart related medical stuff.

Not much yet on my agenda.

George, J. Albert: Look familiar? We had the 5402 in Edgemoor. Former PRR with cab signal box in front of cab.
Boris I spent a lot of time on RS3's. The cam idle lope still rings in my head even today. If I only stayed one more year when the MTA offered the Brewster hostling job as permanent position I would have taken it, I heard Bob S took that job who I had seniority over and he retired on it. J Albert would have known him. In the end it all worked out for me.

Good morning all!

Happy Hump Day!

Currently 55F heading up to a summer like 80F with mostly sunny skies.

We will be attending mass this morning. Its May crowning and the 8th graders will be doing parts of the mass.
My daughter is reading the responsorial psalm I believe. Then graduation pictures after mass. Don't think we have
to stay for that.

Not sure what else is going on, hopefully not much.

Have a safe day everyone!

Troy, try the Open Table app for reservations on Mother’s Day. Disable the notifications or delete the app in between usage! It has been a great help for us. I have used it all over the USA and its failed me 1 time in Sarasota since Covid

If she is like most HR she didn’t have a clue it’s your anniversary week. Best to you in year 11

Good morning Crew. 57f degrees now low 70’s later. We hit 71 offically yesterday in Madison, locally the WeatherChannel app says 79. Either way yesterday was one of those perfect Chamber of Commerce days, just perfect

Did some weathering and then posted it in my Continuous weathering thread.

Watched the grandson’s soccer game at 5pm yesterday. The team played great but still only tied 2-2 with the gd/son scoring both. The majority of the team lacks the scoring instinct but play a wonderful overall game and have been mostly together for the 7 years the grandson has played and his dad coaching. They move the ball great, pin point passes but they only have 5 real shooters (those 5 play hockey together) and the other kids seem to not want to shoot. It’s frustrating from the side line as a spectator but they are kids and it’s not life or death.

After my eye appointment at 8 we will drive over to Racine and Terry’s best friend. Not sure where lunch will be but it will be somewhere as Pat can’t cook. I mean like can’t even boil water type can’t cook. I may help her with some blinds. She got new windows and has has issues trying to get 2 sets of blinds put back up. When I found out I was playing handyman I put some tools in the car and pulled out my sexiest jeans…

Just kidding about the special jeans…

I am taking one of the diesels I got in the mail from Hiawatha yesterday as the front plow and front steps look like they hit the floor. When I called yesterday and I told them what’s wrong the girl said hang on, then I hear “stop looking I found that engine.”

Seems the Navy lost another fighter jet overboard yesterday or the weekend. That’s 2 in 3 weeks! Yikes, where is DOGE for that waste of money at 18 mill each?

Enjoy the day

Congrats to the daughter. The granddaughter transitions to High school in 2 weeks. Whatever happened to graduations?

Good Morning All. Currently cloudy and 60°. Relative humidity is 98%. Radar shows the northern tip of a line of showers is over us, but that rain is not presently hitting the ground; I doubt that we'll see anything at all given the conditions. It's not in the forecast and we all believe the NWS, right? Yesterday's rain total was 1.75" on top of the 0.5" on Monday. Yes, that storm that looked like it might wither away yesterday morning turned into a real gully-washer by the time it got here. Long range forecast is the same, slowly warming and dry for the next ten days.

I had no outdoor plans for yesterday, and it is too wet for any today, maybe by tomorrow afternoon. Probably not until Friday realistically. I spent about an hour on the phone with my representative at Empower discussing our five retirement accounts there. I am already taking an RMD from one of them which I really don't need, and at age 73, I have to start taking an RMD from a second one before the end of the year. It too will go into a money market account. Some might end up in a brokerage account which I now know how to set up with Empower. I don't have to take RMD's from the other three accounts because they are all Roth accounts. After all of the discussions, I am not changing anything with any of the accounts, although I am still trying to convince my wife to do something more active with her Roth IRA.

While I did spent some time out in the train shed yesterday, it was all spent on troubleshooting. None on the current parking lot project. I'm just not ready to start on the fence yet. I generally don't have any motivation issues with shorter fences, but this one is 31" and cutting the tulle (wedding veil material) for the mesh isn't going to be easy. It needs to be lined up exactly right to get the cuts correct.
The troubleshooting was on two trains that I have had issues with recently, one is a unit container train and the other is a unit Ethanol tanker train which is sometimes switched out at the Ethanol plant. The container train has been having issues with uncoupling at two areas that seem to have developed slight dips in the trackwork due to the excessive humidity lately, causing some slight warpage in the plywood between the supports. I had a couple of drooping couplers that I think that I have corrected; but one involved removing an entire five-unit container car from the tracks. This one is from Bowser, and does not separate without removing a screw. Athearn, Intermountain and Walther's cars come apart readily. It's my only Bowser product on the entire layout. I may have a second one somewhere on the lower level as well. Some Kadee washers fixed a Walther's car, as well as the Bowser. I had an older Athearn car that the coupler cover had come loose, an easy fix. The tanker cars managed to derail randomly. All of the offenders (3) had Kadee #118 shelf couplers on them. While I am still not sure of the issue, I changed one car to #148's and the problem went away. I'll still be analyzing this situation.

David - Get well soon. You have a partner to look after.
Tom O - The pictures that you have posted of that BN layout makes me drool. I can only dream to get my layout into that level of completion.
I'll second that recommendation for the Open Table app. We use it when traveling and for when we plan to go to the Dallas area for meals. Don't need it when going nearby in Denton and none of the places that we go to use it anyway.
Marlin - I don't have a problem laying down tape for pavement striping, just the paint pen that I have. However thanks for the idea of using a stencil; I just never thought of that. Then I could use real paint instead of fiddling with the balky pen.
Troy - We're still under the influence of the old Baptist inspired blue laws here in Texas. No hard liquor is sold by the bottle here at all on Sundays. You can get drinks at bars and restaurants and they just recently moved the starting time from noon to 10:00 am on Sunday. For years, sports bars would serve you earlier but couldn't actually ring up the transaction until noon. Here in the Central time zone, NFL games start at noon and patrons want to start early. Beer and wine can be sold from 6:00 am until midnight at stores except Sunday where it's 10:00 am til midnight. Still can't buy a car here on Sunday.
Karl - Best wishes on your future medical adventures. It seems that Murphy may have given Terry a brief respite, or he sent his brother to see you.
Chad - Measuring distance in time instead of miles really irks me when someone does it. I've been known to repeat, "How far, not how long". My wife thinks that that is being rude!

Happy hump day. Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday.

Willie, I used a sponge to make the lines look worn. The stencil will make it a lot easier and much faster to complete.
