I've had a couple of my N scale fall off onto concrete. Either a derailment or other and my plexiglass barrier was missing or once I bumped my table and it lost balance and collapsed on one side. Never had anything get broken enough to where it didn't work, but I did have a couple small pieces like a buffer (German locomotive so they use chain and buffer connections prototypically and the models have small buffers) and that sort of thing disappear. Luckily a lot of the smaller pieces are just friction fit on the models so if they burst apart they don't break -- rather they go missing sometimes.

I have a few items that were partially disassembled and never put back fully so some day I will hopefully find the piece-container and get stuff back. But usually that's not from stuff falling, but rather not finishing a project or some pieces going flying when disassembling or re-assembling and then putting it on hold.

i really cant tell why they want police escort all the time. its only the americans and i think also ELAL the israeli airline. but whats special about elal they have there OWN police on the ground and also Xray everything 3! times.

i guess its because the world of today is a little weird to say the least

oh and yes this should be a winglet of a Edelweiss A340-300! ;)

yeah El Al is on a totally different level of operations. They've been like that for decades.

I thought it it was an A340 as the engine appears to be further out on the wing so is probably a 4 engine plane and the engine is "small" looking which is another A340 characteristic. I've not been on a 340 of any sort in a long while but I did fly them a few times to Europe via Sabena and Air France.

More recentl, though still kind of a while ago, I've been on A330. Short 70 minute light from Incheon to Osaka (KIX). They use dual aisle wide bodies in Asia for a lot of short flights with high density seating.

(All my more recent flights have been 787, 777, A350, and modern single aisle)

Good afternoon. Beena away for a while. The woman and good friend who I adopted a couple of dachshunds from years ago had a fall closing a garage door when a rope broke and I went over to give her a bit of a hand. She shattered her wrist and had surgery and can't do much of anything. She has someone boarding her horse but has to feed around half a dozen dachshunds as well as herself. Brought my big Dutch oven over and cooked up a couple of pots of beef stew and was able to get 12 meals into the freezer for her for the next few weeks. Also made a large batch of Salisbury steak for freezing. She' snot far in Athol, ID, a\maybe 160 miles away.

Sherrel - I did keep all of the buildings, locomotives, trees, freight cars, vehicles, the brass turntable and an air brush and compressor but I have no where to put anything else. Most of it is still packed up in boxes except for the Logan Valley locomotives and a few freight cars which Todd has. I wish I would have kept a few pieces of flex track so I can build a static display ocer my TV in the entertainment center.

Willie - Those cell phones are a pain. I just got comfortable using my old phone and AT&T said that I had to get a new one for 5G service. No longer with AT&T. Went with Mint Mobile for $15 a month with unlimited talk and text and 5 GB od data.

I have a couple of hungry dogs staring at me so I will post some archive photos and get out of here.

Just got back from visiting a fellow modeller who has been into MRR for about 40 years, has exhibited at numerous shows over the years and is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to MRRing, he asked me if I could bring my two new acquisitions so he could see them, and maybe give them a runout, he has quite a large layout, three-level approx 4' X10' shelf style layout, with two liftouts across the doorway but still in the process of adding buildings and scenicking, but tracks are laid and I like to see my locos being able to have a decent runout.

So off went the GE ES44 did quite a few decent laps, no problem all was well, and I decided, stupidly as it turned out, to let it run up the 3%
incline, which does an entire circuit of his empire to reach the upper levels, it wasn't hauling a rake so what could go wrong, seems that although, like me, he has a perspex guardrail that runs the entire length of the layout he'd recently been doing some work on the upper level and several feet was missing, this is where my loco met his cat, (which we didn't know was there) and knocked if off the rail, now this guy is around 6'6" so the upper level sits around head height, (I'm 5'11"), straight down and landed on its back, despite the carpet it pretty much exploded, I can't repair it, we honestly couldn't find about a third of the bodyshell, I've salvaged the chassis, motor and decoder and one of the trucks plus some other bits of the running gear but that's about it, seems I'll have to see about getting another one at full cost, on the up side he did apologise tho.
Man sorry to hear about that crashed loco. It also sounds like they don't make then like they used to. I was running my E44s lately and one of the pantographs opened as the locomotive was going under the layout framing. Since it was going diagonally, the plywood just lifted the loco by its pantograph off the track on its side and down it went on the hard floor. The damage wasn't anywhere near as bad as yours. Looks like i did pretty solid job making that shell. Small crack on the top which lifted off the roof of the hood, which i was able just to snap back on and flood it with CA glue from the inside. The opened pantograph was all together a rebuild job though, which took me untill midnight, i just wasn't giving up😆

WELP! I managed all day (so far) without the cane. Feeling a very slight better and actually got a very small amount of straightening up in the garage which looks like the city trash dump with all the construction going on. The "backsplash" guys have been here all day. They have done an excellent work of art- progress is moving forward a little. Still no hot water at the sink; the fancy facet that MOH ordered would not put out any hot water - another one is on the way. Cannot wait until the electrician gets the receptacles in and the dishwasher operational. What a pain!

Usually its those buffers on European equipment which take the brunt of the force. Had several misshaps like that. In the end it's easier to make a new buffer, than try to fix a badly cracked shell.

Minor house update. We did a bunch of painting catch up last long weekend. A bunch of places high off the ground in the main hall and also in the master bath needed the last 3-4' done so we did that. I also noticed that somehow we'd missed spraying the master bath ceiling so I did that as well as did the ceiling of a closet that hadn't been done. I also did the main wall painting in my walk in closet off the master bed room. And I started and the wife finished one of the walls in the non-master bathroom (kids' bathroom) that is a different color. And my daughter last week did some more drawers for the kitchen and I also did one -- hopefully tomorrow she'll come with and finish those up.

Tuesday I got as much of the changing / non-shower/bath area of the Japanese bath painted as high as I could reach without a ladder. Wednesday I did not get up there due to some day job issues but yesterday I started attaching some small "ledger" type boards to the wall in the Japanese bath that will be used to hold up the bath "vanity" countertop. There are no cabinets underneath. (I'm too old and fat to have to lean over and look for stuff in the back of a floor cabinet and if we have them the wife will use them. I also like the look of the suspended countertop empty below.) I need to do the other bathrooms today and tomorrow to get ready to cut and attach the actual countertops. I bought some 1.5" thick bamboo 4'x8' panels to cut into the countertops.

I'll be headed up later tonight to put more of these "ledger board" supports up and to get two tall wall cabinets installed in the master bath (as they will provide one of the 3 sides for support of the countertops) and tomorrow get it all painted and finish paining the kids' bathroom and stuff.

I need to talk to my neighbor who has a fancy table saw in his garage about helping me cut the 1.5" bamboo panels into countertops. For a while his table saw was in my garage while he moved things around and straightened and organized his garage but he eventually took them back when I needed my garage emptied so that some trades could do their thing in it.

The painting in the changing side of the Japanese bath:

The ledger board thing to support the vanity top (not yet painted):

Inside the actual shower/bath area of the Japanese bath we're going to put tile in. big 2x4' pieces. Which way looks better for the veins? Horizontal or Vertical?

Most of you haven't heard about the disaster I experienced at our club N scale layout in the late 1990s. It was (and still is) a very large layout, even if it were HO scale. Anyway, I was running a 130 car unit coal train with a trio of Kato 6 axle diesels at the front, a pair mid-train, and a lone pusher. Also on the layout was a member that loved NYC, and had probably everything ever made in brass for NYC. He also suffered from Parkinsons, which factors in to the story. I was in the longest tunnel on the layout, long enough my entire train was hidden, and he decided he would run his brass NYC steam passenger train with his brass Niagara, heading in the opposite direction. And saw his train about to have a cornfield meet with mine. I stopped my train, but he couldn't get his fingers to move on his throttle to stop his. The end result was both trains hitting the concrete floor. All his brass and my entire coal train. At least the couplers worked well... I was unhappy in the extreme, as even 25 years ago, all that equipment wasn't cheap, even by today's prices.

I hope your "guarantee" is better than mine. Two different companies "Guaranteed" they could provide me internet service. It ended badly both times.
While I don't trust T-Mobile any more than AT&T, we have a written guarantee regarding the service area. And we have 90 days to request a FULL refund of all service charges if they fail to perform. Don't know if the new phones are included or not.

T-Mobile is the only internet available here. And from what I can remember, they use the same system as AT&T, so you might actually get service, if you had service with AT&T.

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those mourning Smudge's beloved engine. :(

It's a very shagged out Troy.

Sis and I knocked off the rest of mom's apartment and filled a good section of the apartment complex's dumpster. We weren't allowed to put the mattress in the dumpster, so it sits in the apartment for now. I'll get a bill later for it's removal.

We thought we had it all cleaned out, and I did the "last sweep" while sis was in the hallway saying farewell to Mom's friend right across the hall. So I opned the door, and said, there are still clothes in the closet. We'd missed a box and a bunch of old shoes mom can't wear.

Sis told me to head out, since I had the 1.5 hour drive home. About 15 minutes later, she texted that the apartment was empty (except for the bed) and keys had been turned in.

Since her SUV was packed to the gills, I'm not sure where she put stuff. But OK.

In other Mom news, she signed both POA. I have financial POA, since wife and I are better able to help with finances, and paperwork. Sis #2 deals with medical insurance from the hospital end, trying to get their physicians paid (hint, too often Docs don't document what they want paid for).

Sis #2 said she'd research and look stuff all we wanted. We understand that when she lives in that system, and gets grumped at from both sides 10 hours a day, she doesn't need the stress of doing that for a loved one.

And, my wife has a much calmer head than Sis. This arrangement works best. We have a resource in Sis #2, and one we can push the button on to make calls and be grumpy in the sensible way when needed. But we don't want to use that until normal routes fail. The constantly squeaky wheels often get put on the auto-ignore stack. And my sis can get that way easily since that's her day job.

Sis #1 has POA Healthcare, with me as backup. All paperwork signed.

With my fresh POA, I was able to go cancel Mom's renters insurance.

And, mom asked what to do with her cell phone. She had to get nurses to dial the phone for her when she called me. Time to give it up then mom. It was for in case you fell, remember? That didn't work out when you left it in your purse all the time, and fell in your kitchen.

Then she admitted she can't read the caller ID on her large text phone.

So, thanks to Terry and those who suggested that phone with the three speed dial and the large buttons. Three kids, three buttons. I'll go look it up and order it tonight.

Once I drove home, wife and I got pizza. Then I poured another cup of larceny bourbon, and sat on the patio. Here's Larceny on ice #2:

Happy Bunny seemed very happy that it was a good night for patio sitting.
