Well howdy there internet people, and those no longer waiting.

I'm back home, but have to make the drive again tomorrow.

The adult beverage of the evening is a stiff glass of Larceny bourbon.
Larceny34.jpg

On ice, of course, to make it last longer as I sit on the patio in 69° sunny evening.

Got to Goshen this afternoon about 2. Stopped and culvers and called mom's cell. No answer. Didn't expect her "house phone" switched over yet, but I tried, and got my sis, who was in mom's old apartment cleaning it out. She said Mom like caramel sundaes. OK, I got ice cream for both of us. Got to mom's room and she's sleeping. She's stated several times that we're to wake her if we come for a visit. So I did. Waving the ice cream with caramel in front of her.

"I don't feel good. Just want to sleep."

So my sister and I ate ice cream at the apartment and let mom sleep.

Sis had brought a co-worker who just moved out of a bad girlfriend situation, and needed furniture. But no bed and no table. Sis had waved off the church that was going to take the furniture, and this guy was leaving us with half of what we had. Of course he took the dressers and couch. leaving the bed that no one will take (can't resell a used mattress).

Fortunately, other sis and her boyfriend were willing to provide truck service to get the big stuff gone. But, where they were going was back toward the homes. No sense in making them come back, and begging the church to take the bed and kitchen table.

Sisters and I are hitting the exhausted phase in all of this. Tempers aren't flaring yet. But we're worn thin. One more day of cleaning out the apartment, getting powers of attorney, change of address paperwork.

Then, mom's going to have to wait a week or two before I make another ice cream run. Hope she likes caramel next time.

My eldest daughter (32) has dumped several young men over the years when she found out that they couldn't change a tyre, in their defence
1) If we're paying good money every year to these breakdown services like the AAA why not use them?
2) Most new cars don't even have a spare tyre anymore, just a can of inflatable sealant

Willie:
I'm a retired professional photog. I hardly ever get my real cameras out. I'm saving them for the model railroad. When we go on our Alaskan cruise this summer, I'm just taking the iPhone. Camera stays at home. It's just one more thing I have to lug around.

Terry and Smudge: mother already has a visually impaired landline phone. Just not with the speed dial. Hers even has caller ID in large type.

Good evening. For the 2nd wonderful night in a row we had no internet. Last night (Wednesday) it started at about 9:30, today it started at 6 to 6:30pm and it came back between 10:30 when I last tried to 11:05 when I tried again.

Supposedly Solar Flares are playing havoc with TDS’s equipment. I’m not complaining as we have had TDS from 1998 in North central Wi till now in So Central Wisconsin minus 6 months when we tried Spectrum because of pricing. We have had tremendous success and even with 2 nights in a row I’d say less than 10 outages over 1 hour in those years. Those usually were construction damaged lines.

Watched the grandson play soccer and the team won 3-1. He played well and set up 2 of the 3 goals. I’m not a soccer fan but watching him and the team is fun. But watching and listening to the parents on the sidelines in soccer is even better than listening to hockey parents. They all should coach. The son in law is one of the coaches on the soccer team and along with the head coach played soccer as youth and high school together for they think 12 years. Both were high school State honorable mentions and are truly good coaches. They took over this team last year 1/2 way into the season when the previous head coach and a few parents got into it in front of the kids. Both have been the assistant coaches since the kids started playing about 5-6 years ago. Lots of talented players and these coaches coach to the strength of the kids. Plus the kids are having fun…

I re-read (hey no internet) over the last 2 nights a real book. Lance Mindheim’s latest model railroading book, Scenery for Modern Switching Layouts. A good simple read, easy to follow and chalk filled with good ideas. I have read I think all his books on Switching Layouts (6 maybe) and I still have the collection but in a drawer! I was gifted 2 of these for Christmas 2023 if someone would like a new unopened copy for $20 plus shipping.

Being without internet and streaming TV meant a peaceful night at the house and around 10pm a quick drive for mini concrete mixers from the area Culver’s.

I need to check the NHL hockey scores…

Are you now or have you ever been a sim racer, by chance?

Watching can get tedious at times, but Nordschleife behind a wheel--even a PC wheel--just never disappoints.

Never tried to run part of a 24 hour there, but finished fourth in a 1000km once (Porsche 908/2) as lead driver for a two man team. Just huge, huge fun. that race.

Just watching can still keep you on the edge too, of course, as it can always come down to the final lap and final stop. If you've watched recent races there, you already know it quite well, I imagine.

@Snowman i was a simracer had everything was also streaming, but was more into NASCAR then on street racing. was "playing" with iRacing. And i was part ina german NASCAR League for about 2 years. but i did also some laps on the nordschleife with a Merc AMG GT3 :) and was also a part of a Porsche Cup :D

And yes i "know" the Nordschleife aka Green Hell from races but was never there in person. Maybe someday i will go there!

Good morning from TDS’s messed up internet in So Central WIsconsin. Just after I wrote last night’s missive the internet service disappeared again. This morning I woke up later at 6:45 and checked online as all my daily diabetes tracking is via online communications. I found this greeting me!
IMG_5917.png

What I found last night is if the internet is out and cell phone coverage has disappeared there is no way to contact them. But, I want to know if we are currently experiencing an outage now, why am I on the internet? Wednesday night’s outage supposedly was caused by Solar flairs. I don’t believe anything anymore. I wonder how all the solar farms are doing today?

We will be driving somewhere today for breakfast! Because it’s not Thursday our “normal” breakfast out day it’s Terry’s way of saying she’s bored! She suggested a place 8 miles from Hiawatha Hobbies which is just down the street about 72 miles. Not complaining though. My hair cut is at 9 so we will leave home for the hour drive for breakfast at 9:30, so I should be buying at Hiawatha before noon, I do have a list

Enjoy the day

TGIF Hooray! 56degrees looking for 82 which was yesterday's high as well - with mostly sunny.
That's good as I need to make up lost time in the solar electric production - with 3 extra people living here with us they have tv's running all the time they are home and haven't figured out that a light switch can be turned off - as well as on!

I have been up a couple hours already - like almost 3 now. Spousal Unit and I went up the road a bit and had a steak and shrimp fajita for two with a couple Margaritas. Sure was delish, but I still ate too much and I guess that is why I woke up so early.tuff"

Chemo went smooth yesterday .. 3 bags Tue, 2 bags Wed, and one bag yesterday. I have a "port" so it is like airing up a car tire - just a slow drip. I seem to be starting to get back some of my equilibrium and am starting to walk (some) without the cane .. just have to be careful and not make any fast turns. I hope that continues .. not fun having to lug around a cane or walker!

Kitchen is on hold for the moment -- I think that the backsplash people are coming today or tomorrow -- still lots of additional stuff to go in. It all should have been finished by now, but MOH is acting General Contractor and people are coming in and out and not finishing stuff as should be -- but it is her money and I don't say anything - just shake my head!

Maybe back later "Chow".

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 64°, it just stopped raining. Yet another thunderstorm arrived around 2:00 am which left another 1" in the rain gauge. This is getting old; we've had over 15" in May, with 4.75" in the last 3 days. Lakes are overflowing, ground is saturated and mosquitos are everywhere. Thankfully last night's rain stayed outdoors. The current ever-changing forecast calls for more on Sunday but has been removed for most of the 10 day outlook.

I can't even start the cleanup here until it does stop raining, and also until I can get the dumpster back into position. The waste removal company will help eventually, but not until the ground dries out enough that their equipment won't get stuck. I'm looking at the same situation with the tree removal company for a couple more days. On the upside, the contractor crew should be out this morning to finish the fascia and trim on the train shed roof, and the roofers should be here around noon to finish their part. They are already aware that they will be hand-toting bundles of shingles back to the train shed.

I am hopeful that the garden will recover, all of the plants are bent over sideways against the ground, and I can't get to many because of the mud. All of the tomato cages and t-posts are at a 45° angle and while I have straightened some, I haven't gotten to all yet. 4 cages are missing.

No issues with the grocery trek yesterday, but the cell phone place pisses me off. Wife has an appointment this morning when the original sales person is supposed to be there. Hopefully it can be resolved this time so that I can live with her.

I did go out and walk through the train shed yesterday to take my first good look at the situation out there. The water did not totally devastate everything, but the floor and everything on it got soaked. The place smells like rotting cardboard, but things are beginning to dry out. All rolling stock should be OK although I didn't attempt to run any yet. Sure, lots got wet, but it's all plastic and will dry off rapidly. Too soon to tell about the ground cover, some is wet and much is dry. Structures are a mixed bag. All of the plastic ones are fine. The water didn't seem to get to the Hydrocal ones, but I haven't had time to check everything. The laser-cut wood and cardstock structures are a different thing. Many did not get wet but those that did are in need of rework. The cardstock ones can easily be rebuilt, as I still have the original plans in the computer and will just need to print off new ones if needed. I did start on a simple wood kit which I disassembled and spread out with weights on the warped walls. Nothing like a little water to soften up Elmer's or Aleene's glue. I'll have to evaluate each one to determine a course of action. The one that I started with was just the first one that I came to that needed attention. i did notice that some of the plywood layout surface is warped. I'll have to see what happens to it as things dry out. Unfortunately train shed issues are taking a back seat to other more pressing things right now. No sign of mold yet. I need to get a crew out here to remove the insulation from the attic real soon.

Grizzled - Continued prayers for your wife.

Everybody have a great day.

Just got back from visiting a fellow modeller who has been into MRR for about 40 years, has exhibited at numerous shows over the years and is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to MRRing, he asked me if I could bring my two new acquisitions so he could see them, and maybe give them a runout, he has quite a large layout, three-level approx 4' X10' shelf style layout, with two liftouts across the doorway but still in the process of adding buildings and scenicking, but tracks are laid and I like to see my locos being able to have a decent runout.

So off went the GE ES44 did quite a few decent laps, no problem all was well, and I decided, stupidly as it turned out, to let it run up the 3%
incline, which does an entire circuit of his empire to reach the upper levels, it wasn't hauling a rake so what could go wrong, seems that although, like me, he has a perspex guardrail that runs the entire length of the layout he'd recently been doing some work on the upper level and several feet was missing, this is where my loco met his cat, (which we didn't know was there) and knocked if off the rail, now this guy is around 6'6" so the upper level sits around head height, (I'm 5'11"), straight down and landed on its back, despite the carpet it pretty much exploded, I can't repair it, we honestly couldn't find about a third of the bodyshell, I've salvaged the chassis, motor and decoder and one of the trucks plus some other bits of the running gear but that's about it, seems I'll have to see about getting another one at full cost, on the up side he did apologise tho.
