Insurance is not a part of the equation here! Nothing that was damaged was insured. But fixing the train shed roof is still cheaper than the insurance that I would have paid. The barn that I no longer actively use is in the process of being dismantled anyway.
Other than the tree entering the front door at the house is the only insurance we are dealing with. Everything else is self insurance from last week. Got the letter from insurance that the front door is covered up to $21,000 BUT we need to use the approved contractors on the list they sent us. Our guy of course is not on the list. Terry called as she is calmer than I would be. After the phone call where she told them to send the money we will hire our own guy she said “0k, you were right”. I wish I had a recording of that. She left a message for the insurance agent at 3pm but he was home for the day! We can turn a simple insurance claim into TV level drama, this should be fun. The insurance guy holds all our liability policies and it’s a good chunk of change he is about to lose.

Maybe it’s time for your helix shed addition…

I'm surprised how many people I know have fatty liver disease. I was waiting on the first tee of the golf league last night and some of the league members were telling me how they just had an MRI relevelling they had a fatty liver. There's also fatty pancreas and fatty kidneys all caused by too much sugar that seems to be in everything we eat now days. After my wife's health problems, I stopped eating all that junk and buy fresh everything now. There's not much going on 6 feet under the ground, and I haven't seen anyone take their model railroads with them and you would have to be awake in case it derailed. I see a lot of food photos here that just might be doing you in.

i dont want to offend you or any american.

but when i watch TV or Doc films about the US iam always thinking, damn what are they eating? Of course there are also other americans that eat healthy or so but i think most of the americans eat very unhealthy, or drinking. i mean i love the american fastfood and everything but sometimes i think holy molly thats not healthy at all.

i know also here (in switzerland) there is so much unhealty food, but i try to dodge that.

remember i have this knowledge of the internet and TV, i was once in the US (vegas and thats not really the real US). And i think we all agree on, the world is getting fatter!

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 66° this morning. Thunderstorms again last night that thankfully broke up just prior to getting here, ,and some headed south. That thunderstorm yesterday morning left 1.6" of rain in the gauge, but there was further damage regarding the train shed. More on that below. Cooler temperatures for the next few days, but the official forecast is showing thunderstorms for 9 of the next 10 days. David has sent his weather across the pond to us.

Real busy day coming up today. The roofer is due about 0800 to both inspect the roof on the house that he put on a couple of months ago, and measure and quote for the train shed replacement. I don't really need a quote, I just want him to get it replaced. He said that dependent on rain, he could get it this week.
Then we head to town to the makeup doctor appointment with the ENT guy, stopping ahead of that at the cell phone place to resolve my phone issue. Wife has decided that we both get new phones and they can transfer data and stuff while we are at the doctor. As soon as we return home, my contractor buddy is supposed to meet us at 1:00 with his partner and enough plywood and supplies to fix the places where it is missing. He knows that he needs to get that done quickly, or the roofing guy will get that part of the job as well. The fascia and trim can be done at any time later.
Then when all is said and done, we have to head to Dallas tonight for our grandsons combination birthday party. Their birthday's are a day apart, one will be 15 and the other will be 17. My how time flies! We will be eating at their favorite Italian restaurant, which is a good place but not as good as our local to us one is.

I did a lot of general cleanup yesterday. A lot of old stuff blew out of the collapsing barn and is scattered about the yard. Unfortunately I can't put it anywhere since my neighbor's tractor sustained a little damage and we couldn't get the trash dumpster moved back in place yet. Now the ground around it and the path back is super-saturated and I would have to repair wheel ruts if we do it before tomorrow...maybe. I have enough stuff to do without that hassle.
I also spent a lot of time cleaning debris out of the pool, leaves, branches and assorted junk that had blown into it. Note that it was perfectly clean on Saturday evening before the weather event. My chemical balance yesterday was good however, as any good news is welcome right now. Temperature is still a little low at 68°, but I am not having to add water.

Now the bad news regarding the train shed. While there was no damage of any kind from the tornado Saturday night, the rain yesterday did a number on it. It seeped between the plywood joints on the roof, thoroughly soaked the insulation in the attic, leaked through the seams in the plywood ceiling and soaked most everything inside. I was too depressed to really survey the layout, but I am hopeful that the wood doesn't swell too badly to require any major rebuild. I was expecting some water leakage, but not quite as much as I found. Fans are going full blast.

Troy - Good for your family that the Mom ordeal is positive so far. Continued best wishes.
Patrick - Belated Happy Anniversary.
Sherrel - If you see this, best wishes with the chemo this week. It was good talking with you Sunday.
Mike - That's what happens to almost all furniture in my brother's neighborhood. The scavengers know which Monday the city of Dallas picks up bulk discards, and they are out en masse on Sunday evening with their pick-up trucks and trailers and pretty much clean up.

I need to start my busy day, already fielded a phone call from my buddy contractor. The roofer will be here soon.
Everybody have a great day.

Know the feeling, my industry is now bloated with middle managers (a.k.a. Line Managers) who are on half the salary of the people they manage and have never done the job those they are responsible for actually do. Dont get me wrong, they are all a nice bunch of guys, but seeing them try and tell people who have been in the job ten, twenty, thirty or more years how to do the job is a tad embarrassing.

Meanwhile, I was sent out by the good lady wife for some shopping and I wound up buying a Cadillac...

JAY - Unfortunately TV and m0re so the web shows the "bear" side of everything!
I agree with you, theres is way too many fat people;
fortunately I have not been one of those, but going to the cancer Chemo place has really opened my eyes!

Let;s see -- make the people fatter and the airplane seats smaller - YAH - thats the key! LOL

Sorry, I have to go for the moment -- Will post more later, Early Chemo session to day - Yester was a good one -- three bags + 3.5 hours. No real effects as of this morning ... now if they can just give me my sense of balance back.
MORE ON THIS LATER!
IT's aother 80 degree beautiful day here!

I'm sure Americans eat plenty of crap and are unhealthy (a lot of people are fat etc), just remember that what you see on TV or YouTube or in pics may not be representative of what people eat on a regular basis (vs on special occasions like a night out or whatever). I know I can eat a big greasy super burger with a side load of chili fries but I don't eat that every day. Or even once a week.

I also see plenty of unhealthy stuff online from most other countries. Because the things that are interesting and on video are the special, strange, or wonderful not-every-day things.
