Here is one more from my trip to Clifton Forge:

I have no clue what a New York Central painted E series is doing there, maybe it's a former C&O engine.

This was in the middle of nowhere west of Spokane. Unfortunately i passed by during the weekday and they are only open on Saturdays.
That ROW pretty much matches what the roadsides look like in our area right now.

Good morning all. A cloudy day with showers later.
Tea and a round of toast please, Flo.

Curt. The picture with the cat is of a layout long gone. The cat is no longer with us. He was a tough one. As good as any guard dog. anyone on our property he let us, and them know.

Yes, generally speaking our locomotives are smaller than those across the pond. A large number of 0.6.0 tank and tender locomotives were built.

Not a lot going on, so should see the train room later.

Back later.

Well, howdy there internet peeps. And those still standing in high winds.

It's Troy again.

Today is the day mom is supposed to move into the healthcare side. She had her emotional down day on Sunday and was in better spirits yesterday. Of course, she wants me to bring her a donut today when I drive into town (1.5 hour drive) to do her banking and make sure she has enough $$ in her account for getting her stuff taken care of this month.

A cautionary word. Mom had purchased burial/funeral insurance. We finally found the paperwork on that policy. She still owes two years of payments on it. If paid off before her passing, her funeral is covered at 2016 prices.

But her monthly payment is $176 !!!! She had told my sis it was only about $30.

Technically, I'm a signatory on Mom's bank account, but I've never exercised any access to it. Now it's time, and she's aware. The woman is living on Social Security, medicaid and medicare. If the politicians start cutting those programs, she'll be among the most vulnerable. Dad died in his late-50s, after his factory job, where he was Union president of his local, got moved to Puerto Rico in the mid 1980s in a political move. No retirement $$ from Dad. Mom has access to his SS survivor benefits, but it ain't much. Dad had to dip into what he had saved to keep going in the 1990s.

Fortunately, wife and I aren't destitute. Not Musk-levels of rich, but not bad off. Wife drilled down to figure out that we can pay about $2,000 on mom's burial insurance and get it secured and not coming out of mom's monthly expenses.

The problem is, with Mom on full medicaid, she's about to be allowed to keep only $50 a month from her Social Security payment. Her phone fees and cable tv will be closer to $70/month. Wife and I are taking care of those fees for her. We don't need to pay $176/mo additional for two years and hope mom doesn't pass before the policy is paid off.

So, banking, donut for mom, and get her settled today.
Tomorrow I start calling to see where to send the payoff check and get that insurance policy paid.

Warning: there are sooooo many loopholes in those policies, they probably make a mint off early deaths, missed payments cancelling the policies, etc. If she passes before it's paid off, then we have to pay the difference in what the policy is for, and what today's costs are. And she's already paid 2x what the policy is valued at.

The only saving grace, is if it's fully funded, then she's secured pricing from a decade ago for her funeral costs. I'm glad she was thinking of her kids and what we'd have to pay. But this type of insurance borders on being a Scam. I wouldn't purchase it for myself.

Fortunately, we're here with the means to get it fully funded. Since mom is on the "who knows how long" clock, we don't want to waste what she's paid into that plan. So we'll pay it off and make sure she doesn't lose her investment.

That's all for now.

here's some orcs in progress. Only silver and green on them for now. I'm painting the first 10, with 10 more primed and waiting. Ten at once is about right for enough to paint at once.

PS: It's only after paint goes on that I'm finally able to see the mold lines I missed sanding off. I didn't feel like more sanding, and another coat of primer. Screw it. I've got mouldy orcs! ;)

I only ran those NYC E8 engines a few times being on the Harlem Division they were only used on the Chatham NY run. They had two separate diesel engines, generators and steam generators. The B units had a very small control stand and widow so it could be moved when not connected to the A unit. They were by far the best riding engines NYC had.

Unfortunately i only saw E8s run few times, those on Conrail business train. The sound at full speed of those twin engines is wonderful.

Have not dropped in for quite a spell. skimmed thru the last 40 or so pages of posts. Lots going on ! JUst put the appropriate icon for each post. Biggest thing I guess was the weather over the wkend. Wow. Havent heard the Texas boys mention Dallas/Edmonton hockey. I will - could be a long 7 game series.
I still wear my winter parka outside to keep wind chill off me (20 + C) My old bones need heat . Till next time. Night
I watched the game last night, oilers looked great and then disappeared. I want to see a Oiler/Panther final but based on what I’ve seen so far I kind of doubt it will happen

Good morning from a very bright sky morning in So. Central Wisconsin where I only see one intruder in the sky. We have a rogue cloud that floated in about 10 minutes ago. We should be fairly clear till about noon when radar indicates the rains are coming. I should have cut the grass yesterday. It’s too damp now and the next window sales person will be here at 11.

Heading out at 9 this morning for the grocery run. Terry got home around 7 last night and decreed we need some food in the house today. I thought we had plenty but by 11:30 the list was on the refrigerator.

Waiting on approvals on some weathering photos I sent out yesterday. A last minute commission I was able to do since my return home on Wednesday. It is amazing how much I can get done when there are no interruptions other than my self imposed work limits. I will later this afternoon drive down to the post office. I have 2 bins of completed and paid items to send off. The last of the ScaleTrain reefers are in this batch. Like pulp wood cars and yellow TBOX cars, if I never weather another ST reefer I’d be ok with that. I have now done over 100 of each of those cars and they were mostly done in batches, they became boring…

While the month of June is pretty clear of any major weathering projects I have received the diesels already for July deliveries. I will start to clean a couple today and possibly fade them this evening. I’ll keep busy between the golf trips.

Enjoy the day

Morning all,

Busy when I walked in the door after my long weekend.

67° and clouding up. Expecting some thundershowers shortly and then clearing and 82° for the high.

41 years ago, my then girlfriend\fiancé decided she'd put up with me for a while longer. We're celebrating by going to see the youngest granddaughter's first softball game. She'll turn 5 next week.

Good Morning All. Thunderstorm and 64°. Been a rough morning so far; when it rains, it pours as the saying goes. Around 0500 CDT, a strong thunderstorm hit, power went off again after being on just 14.5 hours. It came back on at 0735. Strong winds blew the tarp off the train shed roof, but the plywood over the train room side is still intact.
Then to make matters worse, my cell phone decided that this morning is the day it is going to die! Not just need a charge, but die! Turning it on just gives me a green bar across the top of the screen. But it still gave me the weather warning beep in my hearing aids a few minutes ago. But I don't think that it's directed at my immediate area.
On top of all of this, my wife had gone to our daughter's home in Dallas on Sunday for A/C and warm showers. I am able to speak with her using the land line toll-free. Land line always works! She is looking out the window and there is a large branch laying on the ground next to the car. She hasn't been able to go out and see if it hit the car or not. The storms in Dallas are worse today than here this morning. The sirens at the fire station 4 doors away from daughter's home have been going off since 0400. They are also without power.

I can't stay and comment this morning, see you guys later.
Everyone have a great day.

Good Morning!

The 'They' people say it's going to be a scorcher today. - I don't think so, with all the cloud in the sky.

TomO - I've been watching those Oilers playoffs, as well. Sometimes, I think it's just a big fix for entertainment. Win one, lose one; keep the show on the road. - Game 2 the Oilers were brilliant, and game 3 they look like children playing on the street.

Went on another greenhouse visiting roadtrip yesterday. I've made a deal with the wife, that if we go for greenhouses, then she be patient while I do trains along the way, as well.
Photo captured this container train twice along the way; once in Edson, and once in MacCay:

BillT - If I ever found an HO model of that GM Aerotrain, I would buy it. I'm a sucker for that 1950's streamlined Dieselpunk look.

Kriegslok - You post excellent photos. Well done, indeed.

Patrick - Happy Anniversary!

The dog knows what time it is, and is bothering me to start walking. Have a wonderful day!

Is this the Inland NW Rail Museum in/near Reardan? I went by a few years ago and saw signage and a few old box cars. I have not been back there ... yet but in the plans. Looks like they have been busy. Remember those passenger cars you found in Parkwater/Yardley? Those and a lot of the stuff there went to Reardan as bnsf wanted the room. Think the 'City of Spokane' is still at Yardley as bnsf runs it once in awhile.

Link if anybody is interested: NW Rail Museum and the 2024 hours are 10 to 5 Thurs - Sun

Morning folks

Cloudless and 48F. The forecast high is 76 and should finally melt the rest of the yard snow piles, a yard in much need of haying again. That and I need to "till" and smooth the area where the shrubbery was removed and throw some grass seed on it. Then it's off with the backpack sprayer, at least "off" for as long as the knee still agrees.

I rode behind these type locomotives when I was a kid. The ride was more exciting than getting to the destination.
