Ken Patterson interviews the new owner of Model Railroader and David Popp

He hits the highlights of look for improvements, but not right away...

Skip ahead to 5:00 mark to get to the start of the interveiw
Pretty good interview I thought.

Who knows, maybe after the dust settles and we see the direction of Model Railroader magazine, I may become a subscriber again.

Howdy all, my weather station says it feels like 89 outside with a chance of rain...might be time to change all the batteries. It says it 65 down here in the basement, which is about right. I put up a coat rack with various weight long sleeve shirts for anyone that comes over. It sure feels nice and cuts down on AC use. Joan has 4 sewing machines down here plus a king size quilt machine, she use to have a 4-harness loom down here; but she got burnt out making towels for everyone. Both are computers are down here, plus a 65-inch TV in the rec room...don't forget my layout...only thing I forgot when I completed the basement was a toilet; and I could/should have installed a Murphy bed down here also...could have been born rich and I wouldn't have to think about could-have, would-have. It's going on 12 and I just got back from foot therapy...taking Joan to her knee replacement therapy in an hour. She says she will NOT get the other knee replaced; but even though my 2nd knee replacement didn't turn out as well as my first, it's still better than what I had.

Getting back to my turnout problem under Joanstown (Do NOT place turnouts under anything). I ripped out the 2 offending turnouts and replaced them with straight (I fell off my ladder so the track isn't as straight as it should be). I ran an engine under Joanstown (which I haven't done in years) and was pleased as punch, so I ran the engine on both tracks for almost an hour without any problems. I know I have to install a bunch of ties into the straight track; but it works and that's great

I might give the 3rd turnout (directly in the middle under Joanstown) a try. I mean, when you’re hot; you’re hot. I will give it a second look when we get back from Joan's therapy.

I've 6 file cabinets full of Model Railroader, Railroad Model Craftstman, S-Gauger, Narrow Gauge Gazette. The MR and RMC got back to the 40's...I couldn't even donate them to the Model Railroad Club near where I live. Ever since the internet, magazines are of no purpose anymore. Use to love to thumb through the latest issues; but now much easier to let my mouse do the walking on the internet...plus the price for a digital copy of Model Railroader was almost the same as the paper copy. I do download Model Railroad Hobbyist every now and then (a ton of advertisements; but that's why it's free).

I still buy magazines from time to time. Not everything has been written on the net. Also the plans are just more usable from magazines. Downloading and then driving down to Staples is time consuming and i do not have a printer at home...then again i don't even have a lap top😆. I find especially older issues from 60s and back interesting to read, as the internet articles mostly focus on recent stuff and style of modeling. But i'm old school, some might say "behind the times"😁

Afternoon All,

Started out the day with a walk at 73F with mild humidity. Did chores and laundry. Somehow it has become a chore for me to water MOH's plants every other day. 😔 Speaking of MOH she made it home about 90 minutes ago and is in her accustomed space napping.

Bill- That station has seen better days.

David- Have a good time with GD. The second photo is much better.

Mac- Nice job on the sidewalk.

Willie- Nice layout shots.

Guy- That's funny.

John- Sounds like a good track fix.

Terry- I don't know what BIOS is or what it does, can I help you with IT support...very low cost.😉

I hope everyone has a good night.

Part of the rest of the story...
My desktop computer has a graphics processor that has been showing signs of impending failure. Since it's still under warranty, I called the company that sells it. One of the steps the tech support person attempted to get me to try was to boot the computer to bios, and see if the problem persisted. I had to explain to him bios has zero to do with graphics processing, and if he could find a bios program that relies on the graphics processor, I'd be happy to try it.
I then had to explain bios is initials that stands for Basic Input Output System, and if there was a problem there, the computer wouldn't start. I then had to explain to him my computer doesn't even have bios, but uefi.

Gotta love Bombay Bob...

Yep, it's the next big thing in tech: The tech support-support industry.

"We educate and support those who should be able to support you. Even when they can't."

Big need, huge hole, and not very many actually able to fill it.
