He is, in all sincerity, not showing his local council in a poor light, the rigmarole you have to go through is extremely long-winded, frustrating, on occasion inexplicable and head-scratching, to say the least, Council Planners, as they're called, really are a pain, some really are that "jobs worth" everyone hates. My Father was a Civil Engineer and oversaw thousands of new houses being built, his pet hate were City or Town planners.

He wants to build a Cafe with all that entails, (dining area, kitchen/toilet facilities, parking etc.) But councils, along with the Government, are keen on protecting what's called the "Green Belt" (these are areas around towns and cities that are predominantly woodland or of agricultural use, one of the reasons building new houses is so difficult to do here).

So all new builds are only allowed after consultation with the council and the local people, all plans for the build must be approved and buildings must "fit in" with the surrounding area, along with an Environmental Impact Report.

The council objects to his plans and has not approved the build, so now he has to appeal the decision.

I get some of that, we have places similar where you need 27 layers of government getting involved, your local minister, doctor and future grandkids. We had a case locally where a bunch of people who had no standing in the community sue over something being rezone to allow whatever being built.

It is good to know government works the same everywhere.

Good Morning, folks! 37F right off the top; maybe or maybe not rain a-coming.

Gonna give myself a haircut for the first act of defiance today. Haven't gone to a barber in 25yrs. It's only two weeks in-between a bad haircut and a good haircut, and I already got the girl; so it don't matter.
When I was young, we used to be able to choose between the 15cent haircut or the 25 cent haircut, depending on what you could handle looking like when you came out.

TomO - Thankyou for that Boomer weathering link. I subscribed to that channel.

This particular repurposed Barrhead grain elevator would have been served by the Northern Alberta Railway, back in the day:

I'm not going to hang around. Way to much to do!
Have a wonderful Sunday!
Tell me that's not begging for some scratch builder to model.

That would make a great signature scene!

We're not quite that bad, you can't sue someone if they want to alter re-zone or build a building, but simply object to the local council, if you can prove it would be detrimental to the local inhabitants or wildlife etc. the applicants lose and the build doesn't happen.

...or the build does happen as the planning committee just happens to be made up of friends, relatives and business associates of the property developers and cash in brown envelopes has changed hands behind the scenes. Goes on a lot down here in Southern England.
That happens everywhere unfortunately, I think, on the whole, it's less prevalent here than in some other countries.

Afternoon All,

Started out the day with chores and haven't accomplished much else today. MOH finally makes it back tomorrow then I'm sure I will have lots to do. I told Dad he's taking me out to supper tonight.

Hughie- Very nice layout shots.

Troy- Saying prayers for you and your family.

David- Families are indeed a lot of work. Neat photo of real railroading.

Bill- Another nice photo.

Guy- Interesting building.

John- Although you've got a bit of a mess on the layout, what you can see looks good.

Willie- Very nice scene. Before I enlarged the tower, I thought you had a picture of a fish in the window! :D

John U- That's working at night. It really messes up your circadian rhythms.

Patrick- I think you mean how government doesn't work.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I don't know if I posted this already or not, but I play these $.20 cent pick 5's all the time and hit a lot of them. I wish I would have had this one and it wasn't that hard to hit. $.20 cent pick 5 bet paid 88 thousand.

Well, had a 9 foot row of beets...7 plants came up. 9 foot row of parsnips, about 16 plants came up and 3 rows of corn maybe a dozen hit and miss plants. All seed was packed for last year, so I guess it could be worse. 2 of the 3 tomato plants have tomatoes albeit tiny ones, and the peppers are coming out of their being chewed up. I do have a volunteer tomato plant that has surfaced, tempted to see what comes of it before I pull it. I think it may be the yellow pear from last year. Couldn't give those away or use them quick enough.

I'm surprised that the beets didn't do better, as that seed is usually viable for a longer period of time. Parsnips is actually a good yield. I don't bother with corn so I can't comment. Tiny tomatoes grow up to be big tomatoes most of the time. In your climate zone, the peppers might recover. The volunteer tomato is iffy, as most tomato plants are hybrid and you never know what you'll get from a volunteer.
Store leftover seeds in a Tupperware container in the refrigerator for the best results. Use one of those desiccant packets found in pill bottles to keep them dry, even if they are in their original packages.
Good luck going forward.

Good evening people

My plans for the day included some brush clearing out in front of the house, both to make lawn mowing easier and reduce the wildfire potential. Alas, the forecast for noon showers was a bit off. They started about 9:00 am and turned out to be solid state----

Hell when your plans go to that same place but you just have to deal with it. I took the opportunity to spend some time with my PFM Rayonier No 45 basket case. I got it running pretty well and made a few more parts for it. I still need a #2 ring terminal to hook the wire up to the tender draw bar. Ordered those from McMaster-Carr, along with M2 nylon and polycarbonate washers, and some small diameter heat shrink tubing.

I'm up... headache, and tinnitus. Headache makes the tinnitus worse.

took an ibuprofen and drank some water. Then looked at a weather map.

Fronts, when pressures change, always seem to to trigger headache, which ramps up the tinnitus...

I live just about where the F in Fort Wayne is
