Good Morning All. Clear and 69° here on the SFW estate, heading up to 90° again today. The weather geeks have backed off their Tuesday rain prediction until Wednesday & Thursday. We shall see!
The memorial service for my late neighbor was OK yesterday, thankfully it was really a celebration of life more than a memorial service. 90 minute service/visitation and 30 minute total travel time was not bad. I got to reacquaint with his other kids who had moved out of the area over the years. Oldest son has been living on the land (and farming my hayfield) for a few years now, and has been assisting dad for at least the past ten years. Jimmy signed everything over to him 6 or 7 years ago so a smooth transition has already taken place.
Sandwiched on either side of the service, I was able to resume some but not much mowing before the yard gets out of hand from all of the rain. I sure will be glad to be able to get on a regular schedule this season with mowing just 2 days a week! Right now the ground is still too soft in the main east side. I will be doing more later today after the dew dries a bit. And the verdict is in regarding several trees that didn't seem to have survived last summer's drought and heat. At least four in the 20'-25' height range have to be removed, plus a couple only as tall as me. This along with the still present pile of trees that the farmer to the south removed to keep from scratching his new John Deere equipment. It never ends!!! But it appears that I will have enough firewood for the wood-burning heater for the next two years
Moving right along out in the train shed. Over the last 2 days, I added sidewalks, parking lot, stripes and ground cover to the area across the road from the buildings that I recently installed.
The stripes are really parallel, but the camera angle distorts the view. I'm thinking that I should add a fence to keep folks away from the tracks.
Then I turned my attention to the Atlas crossing shanty that will be used in the scene as part of the railroad museum.
What's that inside?
It's filled with those tiny cobwebs hat plague my layout room. I painstakingly took it apart, since I assembled it in the days when I still used the Testor's Cement in the tube.
I never realized that there was a hole in the bottom of the floor that allowed the spiders to get in!
I glued a scrap piece of styrene over it and reassembled.
On the subject of the parking lot, between it and the street parking, I have added 30 parking spaces on this project. While I will not fill them all, it will still require quite a few vehicles to complete the scene! $$$
John - Yep! Lesson learned here over 30 years ago. The following 3 layouts including the present one had no tunnels.
Curt - I didn't realize that owning a pet skunk is illegal in some states until you posted yesterday. They seem to be legal here in Texas, but we have rather lax laws regarding pet ownership for the most part.
Troy - Chicken Parmesan without pasta is sacrilegious. They shouldn't be allowed to call themselves an Italian Restaurant.
It seems that people are searching for events to celebrate or commemorate every day now. Today is National Barber Mental Health Awareness Day. Yes really!!! Someone had to really think to come up with that.
Otherwise everybody have a great Sunday.
