Just revisiting the electronics in cars thing, especially the "Park Yourself", "Brake Yourself" and now "Drive Yourself" for a moment ... who in their RIGHT MIND would put their lives (and others) in the hands of a damn computer chip?

What's really sad is these sorts of idiotic things are being incorporated into vehicles because the morons behind that round thing (called a steering wheel) don't know how to drive and, now, don't want to know!

The day I am incapable of checking my own Oil, Tyre Pressures, Coolant and Windshield Washer Levels or need a damn car to park itself or stop itself because I can't be bothered paying attention, will be the day I hand my licence in OR, will be the day I SHOULD hand my licence in.

So now it is back to the Studio .........................................................
Think about what you wrote! “hands of a damn computer chip”. You already do…

Traffic lights, most of your car, your phone, furnace in the house, heck even the stove has chips. If you fly, lots of things

But, I know what you mean about letting the car drive itself

Agree with TLOC here. You can not do anything without coming into contact and/or using some form of computer. There is no way out! Well, that said, I found out that the new gas cook stove we got has a wifi connection that enables one to turn the oven off/on, set the temp; delay time and cook time. I suspect that the new refer will have the same. And I thought years ago that the TV remote was bad. Do I use this kinda stuff? Yup, most of it although starting the washer, stove ... etc with my phone or PC does not happen. Oh, and that new stove has a function called 'Sabbath' or something like that as I don't remember just now. It locks out the oven 4 hours before Saturday midnight then unlocks it 1 hour after midnight on Sunday. WTF??? Imagine actually thinking for yourself?

I believe that I told y'all about our Freightliner and its' ability to drive itself; along with lane excursion, to close braking and cruise control. This started about 4 years ago IIRC. You can take your hands off the wheel and the thing will stay between the center and fog lines, going around corners for you too. Image 40KLbs in the box and what *could* happen. Yes, there was a dash idiot light that told you to put your hands back on the wheel; I do not know what would happen if you continued hands free as I did not test it that far. The braking thing was a PITA - you would be going along at the speed limit and when you went under some of the truss bridges or overhead information signs you would get a warning, then it would brake hard. Bounced whomever was in the bunk out. Rude awaking! Lets not even talk about it seeing cone people in the winter on ice. Note that cruise control did not have to be invoked for this. I do have to admit that the cruise was great. It would follow along at a prescribed distance; slowing and speeding up when necessary. Trouble was there was no warning when slowing so you could be rubber-necking then look down at the spedo and find that you were going 45Mph in a 70.

Oh - I know what I wrote or I wouldn't have written it. Read again what I wrote and this time, keep it the context of everything I wrote in that paragraph - I was referring specifically to cars.

And yes - far too many things have computer chips in them, such as stoves, cell/mobile phones (if you have one) pellet stoves etc etc etc; however, they don't place your life, or the lives of others, at risk if or when they fail.

Good morning from a gloomy start to a WIsconsin morning. I have read the WeatherChannel app and there is a chance of a nice day, around 15%, but I am not counting on it. The Friday end and Saturday wake up were extremely different with Terry home. I am a happy one and the weather however it turns will not bother me. She just left for her stables and riding buddies. Usually she is out there by 6 at the latest, but not today. I did not fly with the son this morning. He has a charter that takes him to pickup a client in Cleveland, fly over Niagara Falls and drops the client off in Ottawa, Canada. He will then fly to Rochester, New York to pick up another client at noon Sunday and fly them to Chicago. He will then fly back to Ottawa Sunday evening. He says he enjoys it!

We did meet with the contractor at 3 yesterday. He says he is happy this is his last job before he hands over the whole company to his youngest daughter. Supply issues are driving him crazy and the person on the other end of the phone he says doesn’t seem to care or offer solutions. Trim work will be ready to start in June, but there is no trim. It’s delayed about 3 months and the supplier he says said not their problem as they will ship when they ship. I told him to cancel then. Today he will join me down by the kiln to see if there is anything there we can use for trim. I know there is some black walnut, birch, lots of white oak and maple already dried in slabs. The daughter has a neighbor who in retirement now works in his home workshop. We will meet him out by the kiln today. Fingers crossed on that one. The windows for the pool are out to September instead of early July. The track portion of the sliding pool walls are on the ocean somewhere, but the glass walls themselves are here in his warehouse. The pump system to the pool has arrived, 3 weeks late but the pool company is down from 5 to 1 installer in the last month. Our contractor has his own plumbing team looking to see if they can install it. But, the biggest issue beside the trim is Terry’s kitchen and my outdoor one. The stoves are out 3-4 months due to, Tony are you ready for this, computer chips. Seems the batch received for our brand and model are defective and they are waiting for good ones. The stoves will not light without them! I’m ok outside usually into late October as I can still grill with charcoal and prefer too, but inside the house passed that would be interesting. The baking season, November to February, cannot be delayed or cancelled. The install can still be done but they will be floor ornaments until the chips are just plugged in. Other things like flooring will be on time but the install crews are booked out forever. His crews can and will now handle the wood floors but the couple carpeted bedrooms will need to wait for those crews. Overall though other then the trim that could mess up the August move in date everything else is doable. Until the carpeting shows for the bedrooms we can wear slippers on those floors. The pool once the plumbing is hooked up can be filled, tested and used without the glass walls. We both can grill outside for almost all meals. The new place already has electricity and like the previous houses will be mostly be off grid with a backup generator. We are not for this house even thinking of running a electric line to a pole for a later hook up to the house. When this house is sold, most likely the estate can worry about that, Terry and I are not. Internet services is being provided by a fiber optic cable, already installed. That is our only on grid hook up. The septic system here was determined by bedrooms and bathrooms, and it is in and approved. There is talk in the Town that they will be banning new wells but ours is in and will be grandfathered.

I know too much but this is my safe happy place
enjoy the day

I just finished changing the oil in my 2020 Equinox. It is full of gadgets and gizmos. Or as I used to call them "electronic nonsense!" I've come to get used to it. I do turn off the lane assist. I like the backup camera. It is part of my check mirrors routine now. I even got used to the Auto stop. I anticipate the light changing and take my foot off the brake, car restarts, ready to go.

My Equinox got 42MPG on the drive home. I filled up in Elkridge less than a mile from the highway. My house is less than 2 miles from the exit off I95. That wouldn't happen without modern technology. The big girl averages 30-31 miles per gallon overall. I love that little 1.5L engine! I've had V8s with less get up and go. It even has on demand AWD, just press a button! "The damn thing is turbo charged" :)

I now have 75021 miles on my Equinox. It does not use a drop of oil. Nothing but routine maintenance, a set of tires and two headlight bulbs.

I'm still running on the original disk brake pads, front and rear. I've pulled the wheels to check the brakes several times. I'm always amazed I still have pads left!

Thank you Cheverolet!

My Kenmore 4 slice toaster has a microchip in it. Our new Samsung dual oven is Wi-Fi connected and my wife can control it with her phone. I could go on and on. I was happy to see the gas burners working when our power went off.

It's a good thing the US is focused on building new microchip factories.

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 64° here. Thunderstorm overnight between 0200 and 0300 left me 0.5" in the gauge, also woke me up. There's thundershowers all around right now, north in OK, SW of Fort Worth, south of Dallas, and out further west between Abilene and Wichita Falls. None appear severe right now. Chances here go up to 80% around noon and it's in the forecast for the next five days. Highs around 80°, so it will be muggy the whole time. Not unusual for May which is normally our wettest month.

The weekly grocery trek, delayed by one day, went OK yesterday. Gasoline in town was back up to $3.15/gal. We went flower shopping but my wife couldn't find what she was looking for.

Meanwhile when I got home, the brown Santa (UPS guy), had left me a package.

I really just wamted to get additional lenses for the one that I already had, but the price wasn't bad and I now have two with different strengths in each one. I used the 2x one for painting some figures yesterday.
Elsewhere out in the train shed, i added the additional fencing, a tree, some details, and another couple of vehicles to that scene that I have been working on; the one with Cooter's Liquor and the BBQ food trailer.

Next I will add some smaller trees, primarily over on the billboard side and who knows what other details that I can come up with.

Troy - I learned to drive before those outside side view mirrors were standard on cars, so I still turn my head and look over my shoulder in addition to using the mirrors.
Mike CGW - Great to read about your wife.
Todd - Lots of appliances have had chips for years. When we bought a new washing machine a few years ago, we found that it is also wifi enabled if you want. My son has a wood pellet grill that he can control over his cell phone. He demo'd it for us once when we were visiting and totally burned the meat!

Stevie Wonder is 73 today. Bet he didn't see that coming.
Everybody have a great day.
