Grandson ran the long block to where we pick him up. Asked him if he he was being chased by an 8th grader. He's in 7th himself. Really waiting for a game to be delivered.

Willie: Turned all that nanny stuff off on the Equinox. Too many resealed roads that the lane departure pics up and the collision sensor screams when I attempt a pass. We still have the blindside indicator on. Fortunately it doesn't turn the engine off at stoplights.

Karl: Sad we need that stuff to stay on the road.

Have to get back to work; but for @Smudge617 :

The "screech-in" is a ceremony performed on non-Newfoundlanders (known to Newfoundlanders as a "come from away" or "mainlander") involving a shot of screech, a short recitation, and the kissing of a cod. It is often performed either in homes or more commonly in town pubs, such as those on George Street, St. John's.
You Newfies know how greet newcomers, eh?...(remember, I'm not Canadian, I just watch a lot of hockey games on SN and TSN). The pub is the logical location for such ceremony.
Here in Jersey, they have the beach tag prices up and the Parking Meters activated. Visitors are called Bennys (and Guidos from Staten Island). Newcomers are not welcomed, just the contents of your wallet. ;)
Don't think my wife would partake of kissing the cod,

Happy Friday evening. Was 89° on the front porch this afternoon. I slept through most of it, after lunch, I just ran out of gas. Had a good workout at rehab today, including weights. Possibly, that wore me out. Pressing 30 lbs, seems like nothing compared to back in the day, but I guess not bad for a 74 year old. I don't recall either Dad or Grand Pop doing more than sitting in a chair or walking to the store at a similar age.

Unlike Tony or Jeff, I did not have a heart attack, but I urgently needed an Aortic Valve replacement after the flu episode. None of the usual tests, ie; EKG, ECHO-C, or treadmill stress test indicated that valve was problematic. It was discovered by Cardiac Cauterization, like Louis had, where they can actually look inside the heart and see what's what.

George, I agree, wiring, is a pain in the back, which is why mine is not done yet. (Got to find a good pain management Doc, until I finish vetting Neurosurgeons for my spinal surgeries, as well as complete the Cardiac Rehab).

Tomorrow, begins with a walk, followed by gardening. Rain alternative is the train room. Yes there is a 40% chance. Maybe I'll have enough energy to get down there anyway.

The school year is down to the last 5 weeks here in Jersey, and Prom season is ongoing.

After a two year wait, it looks like the Rapido, New Haven Baggage Parlor is supposed to ship by the end of the month. I have the Bronx County in Penn Central decor on order. It will go with three 8600 coaches and a Parlor car. It will become the "Cafe" car. on my layout, behind the FL9.

CNJ Westbound Shore train at Morgan, (Movable bridge). Bringing the BENNYS down for a weekend at the Jersey Shore. Photo by Towerman Bill Strassner. The FM Trainmasters were perfect for the numerous stops and starts of the Coast Line. After steam PRR used Baldwin Passenger Sharks, ALCO RS12s, GP7s, FP7s and E7s and E8s during the Trainmaster's Tenure. Trains were operated on a 60-40 ratio, with the PRR at 60%.

Good Afternoon All. Partly sunny and 86°.
Returned from the grocery trek a bit after noon, it was my first real drive in the new vehicle. OK I guess, it should ride well for a 2020 vehicle with only 22,000 miles on it.
RANT: No wonder newer cars cost so much. This thing has way more computers, cameras, bells and whistles on it than any qualified driver needs. OK, I am an old fashioned guy who learned to drive by paying attention to the road, not by being surrounded by flashing displays and "driving aids". This thing has a display in the center of the dashboard with lines showing the lanes, from cameras mounted somewhere! If you stray over a line or are just changing lanes, the steering wheel automatically vibrates! I know if I am in my lane, I don't need the car to tell me. Another camera is scanning the side of the road and there is a speed limit sign displayed there that changes as soon as you change to a higher or lower limit. Next to it is a display for STOP signs that the camera reads. I didn't go through anywhere with a yield sign but I suspect that it would show up as well. I guess that the orange lights on the outside side view mirrors might be handy indicating someone in the "blind spot", but isn't that the purpose of those mirrors anyway?
On the rear-view mirror is a display showing what direction you're going in, north south etc. I guess that is handy to someone who is directional-challenged, but is it really needed. Then there is the touch-screen up on the center of the dashboard that shows and controls literally hundreds of things. First of all, I can't look at it without taking my eyes off the road. Secondly, it is actually out of my reach so it does no good anyway! Plus I can't really read some of the characters. Then we come to the radio and the climate control system. Both can be controlled by knobs and buttons in the usual places. But both can also be controlled by using the touch screen, by using buttons and controls on the steering wheel, and another touch pad on the center console between the shift control and the arm rest! Four places each! o_O
Forget the cruise control which I never use anyway even though I have had it on cars back 15 years ago. It can be set for certain spacing between you and the car in front and will brake if you get too close. I don't know if the brake lights come on to warn the following driver.
I am surprised that it doesn't print out a report card at the conclusion of the trip indicating how often you exceeded the speed limit or turned without using a turn signal! Then turning off the engine and opening the door. Everything moves! Steering wheel moves and seats move. The person in the back seat needs to watch where their knees are!
Heated and air conditioned seats are a nice touch, but I will probably never remember to use that feature. The fold-in outside mirrors when you lock the car by touch are nice since they do indicate that the car is locked; I cannot hear the locking sound. The foot thingy under the rear bumper to open the back hatch might work for someone who won't lose their balance while carrying packages, but not me.
I guess that the technology is just passing this old fart by, but it sure is making cars expensive and probably a lot harder and expensive to repair.
END OF RANT.
Willie, all those lane features and things you will never use is because you are a DRIVER. You probably don’t use your cell phone while you drive? Very few of us can say that anymore.

Cruise Control is something I cannot live without. There was a time back in my 20’s if it wasn’t engaged at 6 mph over the limit, I seemed to be getting pulled over. I still drive faster even though I have it set at +6, but I can release the pedal and it goes down. Terry has never engaged the cruise control after using my car and trying 1 time 40+ years ago, she says she wants to drive the car.

Side collision and other warnings. I think they are more scary than useful.

Car engine turn off at stops, my VW has a feature button that allows me to disengage that feature as does Terry’s Urus SUV. It is annoying and I dipont see how it’s a gas saver. If her 2 seater has that feature I am unaware.

Just revisiting the electronics in cars thing, especially the "Park Yourself", "Brake Yourself" and now "Drive Yourself" for a moment ... who in their RIGHT MIND would put their lives (and others) in the hands of a damn computer chip?

What's really sad is these sorts of idiotic things are being incorporated into vehicles because the morons behind that round thing (called a steering wheel) don't know how to drive and, now, don't want to know!

The day I am incapable of checking my own Oil, Tyre Pressures, Coolant and Windshield Washer Levels or need a damn car to park itself or stop itself because I can't be bothered paying attention, will be the day I hand my licence in OR, will be the day I SHOULD hand my licence in.

So now it is back to the Studio .........................................................

Not for nothing, Willie, since all these driving aids were incorporated, the number of vehicles crashing into the back of standing emergency vehicles has drastically increased. The emergency vehicles have more reflective stripes and warning lights than ever, so what"s the excuse?
Yep! as Tom O posted, cell phones are a major culprit here. Even though mine is Blue Tooth enabled through my hearing aids, I don't use it in the car, even as a passenger. Simply out of habit, I don't use the back-up camera either.
