I didn't have much choice - I went from the local hospital to the one in Rochester (free helicopter ride) to surgery. I didn't know too much till I woke up the following morning in a bed and a couple of nursing hanging around. Only then did I fully know what had happened.

Main thing is we are both okay and all is well. As my surgeon told me though, I have gone from a V8 to a V6. I can do 90% of what I used to do but just needed to do it a little slower :)

Good morning, Everybody!

That is serious, you are fortunate to be here. And we are lucky to have you!

Take diligent care of yourself. We are glad to have you back, we would not want to lose you permanently.

Good morning all. A cloudy day with showers.
Dawn is having physiotherapy today. Hopefully not a difficult time after.
Grandchildren visiting after school.

Thoughts & Peace to All who Require

Have to get back to work; but for @Smudge617 :

The "screech-in" is a ceremony performed on non-Newfoundlanders (known to Newfoundlanders as a "come from away" or "mainlander") involving a shot of screech, a short recitation, and the kissing of a cod. It is often performed either in homes or more commonly in town pubs, such as those on George Street, St. John's.

Morning all,

68° and cloudy, 87° and clear later. As I thought, the predicted storms for my area never transpired. No real rain expected until Sunday.

No trains once again, but it's also the time I need to get additional outdoor stuff done and I have still to paint the inside of the house.

Good Morning All. Cloudy and a warm muggy 75° with 83% humidity. Should have run the A/C overnight instead of open windows. Rain in the forecast for the next 8 days with the greatest chance tomorrow and Sunday. Yesterday's early evening thunderstorm missed us by a few miles. Night time temperatures should be 10° lower for the next 10 days. Highs in the mid-80's.

The postponed grocery trek is this morning, with a side trip for bedding plants for the wife. I bought her a large planter box for Mother's Day, and now she needs to fill it. Assembly required and I already bought five huge bags of potting soil.

Yesterday, my wife returned and we spent most of the day dealing with legal and financial matters that we needed to tie up loose ends. When did life become so complex?

Out in the train shed, I did some more minor stuff in the current project scene, but not enough to warrant pictures. Actually, surprise; no pictures this morning as I am about to be too busy with other household tasks.

Mike (migalyto) - Seems like every train derailment however large or small is going to get publicity after the East Palestine incident back in February. Fact is that there are over 1100 derailments every year on US railroads, and that's just the reported ones. I used to see them a lot on a BNSF industrial siding next to one of our satellite plants. I spoke to a worker there once and he told me that if they could use a "rerail frog" and get it rerailed in less than two hours or so, they didn't bother to report it. As long as the main line wasn't blocked and they didn't have to bring in any equipment, no higher ups ever knew and no discipline resulted.
Louis - Good news, now take care of yourself.

Everybody have a great day.

Good morning from a barely wet WIsconsin. My part of state was to get 1/2” over night but we have enough just to wet the sidewalk.

Getting the haircut this morning at 9. At 10 I have an online video appointment with one of the medical team, nothing to worry about. Just going over the labs results from this week that all were within the range of goodness. The wife and my sister fly in around noon. The daughter said she would claim them at the airport.

Other than dinner out at 7 this evening the only thing planned is at 3 we head to the new place to meet with the contractor. Nothing exciting there but he wants us to check in more often. He talks to Terry every other day and other than my cave and my outdoor kitchen, they can build what they want.

be well, enjoy the day

Good Morning All!

44F @ 73% and clear. Should get to 80F today and stay as the high during the day until Wednesday. Nights only down to 46F too.

Chet: Don't know if I could cook on an electric stove anymore.

Yesterday was a lazy day as we both were too sore. We just looked at each other and smiled when we though about going upstairs and doing more demo. So did some other stuff that needed done.

Lawn Tractor is really rattling when mower deck is engaged. Tightened down what I could reach with no luck. So deck gets dropped and will see what I can see. Got the high pressure washer, weed wacker and lawn vacuum running. These did not get the gas drained last fall for some reason. Pretty simple fix. The Craftsman push mower is waiting for a new battery although you can start it with one pull still - it is now 5 years old.

Almost finished the change over of the new stove to Propane - dropped one of the orifices cuz of my fat fingers and it sounded like it went to the bottom of the thing. Will tip it on its back sometime today and see if it falls again, then I know where it is at and *might* be able to yard it out. In any event, I pulled the burner knob off so it does not get used if I have to order one of the dang things.

Had a friend come over yesterday for a 2nd opinion on the upstairs. Yup, no walls up there are load bearing. Everything up there is on 24" centers so that will make it easier ordering insulation. We also have a 'floating' floor. You can pick up a corner or side. This is because of the ceiling/floor joists between the 1st and 2nd level are 6" diameter logs of which are not flat and on the same horizontal plain even though they have been hewn. That is gonna cause some head scratching when I put in sub-flooring for the storage spaces; AKA closets. Storage spaces more or less jut out of the rooms where the pitch of the roof meets a 4ft height wall; then 30" out from the original floor. Ya, head banger's! We found out that the only requirement of a space to be a closet is it needs to be 24" deep with some sort of door. Height or width does not matter. The storage spaces will become 'legal' closets and the house will magically become a 4 bedroom - which ups the value of it more.

Electrical up there is a cluster. Most is single wire on ceramic posts that are probably 50 years old. Just for giggles and grins I turned off the breaker marked 'North Bedroom'. Low and behold the ceiling light and 1/2 the outles in the Kitchen, ceiling light in the South Bedroom and the outlets in the East Bedroom went dead. Note that the outlets in the North Bedroom stayed on. Crap. No, not really. The wiring was probably the single most compelling reason Maria is ok for this redo. Well, lack of insulation was also in the mix. Will put a 240V 40A breaker box up there to make it easier to get power to the rest of the rooms. What we do to ourselves ... right?

The chimney stack is not attached to anything in the upstairs, just stands there as I thought. James thought that it would probably take about 5 hours to get it down below the upstairs floor level. Found out he just did one almost exactly like ours. We will finish taking it down when we move downstairs to redo the kitchen - probably next year.

Ha! we went the other direction, lol. Being empty nesters, we only wanted 3 bedrooms, but the plans had 4. In and of itself, that wouldn't have been an issue. However, since we had no city water or sewage where wanted to build, we had to apply for a septic system. Adding the 4th bedroom would have meant having to pay for a larger septic system, so we opted to not put closet doors on the 4th bedroom, and viola! a 3-bedroom house it is, complete with a den that has this nice little closet sized alcove, lol!

Apparently, they estimate the water demand based on number of bedrooms.

Good morning gang, and to all who have had their tickers rewound!

I had a cath done 5 years ago, through the wrist and I was kinda in a twilight sedation, but I do remember watch the monitor above me while it was done. Now I know what a Roto-Rooter guy sees from his camera! 😊

No trains last night, grand daughter was over, so I was "occupied". Leaving work at 1 p.m., heading home to cut the lawn and start my weekend. Benchwork is on tap for Saturday, since it will be raining anyway! If the rain stops in time, I'll take the lil red truck to HD for the weekly Saturday night gathering of old cars and older guys!
Thank you, Willie, I'm doing my best.
You better Louis, you don't want a certain Hungarian mad at you!

It seems to me they ought to count the number of bathrooms , since they are the rooms that use the water. ;) 😊
